Chapter 64: The Origin Of 'Justice'
As All Might returned to Ground Gamma, he strode in with his usual enthusiastic grin. "Hello, Young Yaoyorozu—"
However, upon seeing the scene before him, his words trailed off. Instead of the usual antics—students engrossed in their phones, chatting noisily, or messing around—he found something unexpected: Class 1-A, sitting atop large rocks scattered across the parkour-esque city, were all diligently studying.
Though the uncomfortable rocks didn't exactly make for ideal seating, the scene could've easily been mistaken for a proper classroom—if not for the fact they were outside.
Momo Yaoyorozu, noticing All Might, stood up promptly. "All Might! Just as you requested, we safely and properly finished the race and are now studying quietly. I've also written down the placements for everyone from each race." She paused, glancing at the group, her tone hinting at eagerness. "And everyone changed back into their school uniforms, as well."
All Might's eyes softened, and he gave a proud nod. "...Amazing job, Young Yaoyorozu." He paused, then gestured to the horizon. "Well, we should head back to school then."
Yaoyorozu's bright smile faltered slightly. "Oh... so you don't want to see the placements?"
All Might gave a gentle shake of his head. "Ah, that... this race was purely for you all to see each other's limits and growth after your Hero Internships. There were no marks or rankings." His tone was steady but kind, trying to ease her disappointment.
A heavy silence followed. Yaoyorozu's face fell. "Oh... I see," she said quietly, walking back toward the class.
"All right, everyone, back to UA!" All Might's booming voice lifted the mood as the class scrambled to their feet, following him back toward the school.
As they walked, Kurokami Tenshin's voice rang out, concern clear in his words. "Are you okay, Yaoyorozu?"
Yaoyorozu sighed, her tone tinged with frustration. "I'll be fine... It's just... a weird feeling of being so... useless, y'know?" She added the last part somewhat indignantly, still frowning at herself.
Kuro, unbothered by her words, gave a blunt reply. "Oh... well, I can't help with that anyway. If you feel useless, just stay like that. No one asked for you to suddenly take care of everything. It's fine to not contribute at all."
Yaoyorozu blinked, momentarily taken aback. "But... isn't it my responsibility to take care of everyone?"
Kuro puffed out his cheeks, trying to look serious but coming off more adorably stubborn. "That's so mean, Yaoyorozu. We have three Class Representatives, two Vice Presidents, and a Class President. It's stupid to do everything yourself. Dummy."
His attempt at an angry face only made him seem even more childish, but it had the intended effect. Yaoyorozu burst into a small, light-hearted giggle. "Wow, I didn't think you felt angry... such cute anger, too." She couldn't help but pat Kuro's head affectionately.
Kuro shot her a half-hearted glare. "Hey!"
Yaoyorozu shrugged playfully, still smiling. "But ouch, that was a definite low blow... but I suppose you're right! Nothing will change if I sit here sulking. Asking for help is also a responsible choice." She stood a little taller, her energy returning. "Thanks for the help, Kurokami."
"Sure... no problem," Kuro said casually, though a little pleased. He added, "But just 'Kuro,' alright? My full name's pretty long, and we're both Class Representatives. It'd be odd if we were too formal with each other."
Yaoyorozu smiled warmly, already feeling better. "I'll make sure to be less formal then..." She hesitated, then added, "Wait, you call me by my last name... so aren't you being formal?"
Kuro, realizing his slip-up, sped up his walking to avoid further discussion. "Nope~" he said with a grin, playfully sticking his tongue out.
"But it is—" Yaoyorozu began, only to be cut off again.
"No," Kuro interrupted, his tone childish. "Because I said so."
Yaoyorozu rolled her eyes. "You're impossible, you know that?" She muttered, but there was no heat in her voice.
Kuro shrugged nonchalantly. "I just hate losing, besides... not my fault. You had strong logic."
Yaoyorozu sighed, but the weight had lifted from her shoulders. "I wonder how you were picked over me to be Class President..."
Kuro simply smiled, a bit too smug for someone his age, then patted his chest with pride. "Because I'm naturally amazing."
...
A few hours passed, and the late afternoon sunlight cast a warm glow across the hallways of UA High School.
Izuku Midoriya, nervously clutching the door handle, entered a room and closed it softly behind him. He took a deep breath before speaking up, his voice filled with hesitation.
"Um... hello, All Might?"
All Might, who had been standing by the window, staring out into the distance with a serious look on his face, turned around slowly. He gave a faint, reassuring smile before responding, his tone more somber than usual.
"Hello, Young Midoriya... I wouldn't have called you here if this meeting wasn't important. I think... it's time you understood how One For All—the quirk I bestowed upon you—truly came to be."
Izuku's heart skipped a beat. The weight of the conversation, the magnitude of the revelation, hung in the air between them.
