Chapter 231: Chapter 230: Vulpix Vs Pikachu!
About forty-five minutes later, the elite butler, who appeared ever-efficient, arrived at the concert hall to inform the group that the battle site had been renovated.
Forty-five minutes, definitely not more than fifty, was an impressive display of efficiency, even though the lead time barely stretched beyond a minute.
"Phew, it's finally ready... A real-life Pokémon battle." Kaminari gently set down the electric guitar in his hand, exchanged an excited glance with Momo and Kyoka, and smiled in anticipation.
At this moment, his joy was no less than the thrill he had felt when he developed the 'Raikiri.' For Kaminari, this was the realization of dreams he could only have longed for in his previous life, dreams that seemed forever unattainable.
The three of them followed the butler out of the mansion, walking down a beautifully landscaped path flanked by classical Western-style sculpture fountains, until they arrived at the entrance of a towering, ten-story building.
"Please."
The butler stepped to the side, lowering his body slightly in a respectful posture. At his cue, the grand doors to the building slowly slid open, revealing the interior.
When Kaminari stepped inside and took in the sight, he couldn't help but exclaim, "~Wow!"
Especially when his eyes landed on the giant Poké Ball pattern embedded into the bright yellow floor, his entire body trembled with excitement.
To be fair, the changes to the venue weren't extensive. The basketball hoops at either end had been removed, and the floor markings were redone to resemble a Pokémon battlefield. The rest—lights, seating, and other amenities—remained untouched.
It was evident why the renovations had only taken forty-five minutes.
But even with such simple changes, Kaminari felt a surge of exhilaration. He quickly ran to the right side of the field and enthusiastically called out, "Hurry up, let's start a match already!"
He then turned to Kyoka, who was about to head toward the audience seats, and shouted, "Kyoka, you should be the referee! This is the first-ever Pokémon battle in this world. How can it happen without a referee?"
"OK!"
Kyoka's eyes lit up immediately upon hearing Kaminari's suggestion. Just then, the impeccably dressed butler pulled out a pair of red and blue flags from behind him.
"I believe you might need these," he said.
"Ah, thank you, thank you…"
Kyoka stared blankly at the flags in her hands, then looked at the butler with an expression of disbelief. She hadn't expected him to be this well-prepared, even with referee flags.
"Buzz."
At that moment, the four three-dimensional LED displays mounted on the ceiling suddenly lit up, showing the portraits of Kaminari, Momo, Pikachu, and Vulpix. Kaminari and Pikachu were displayed on a red background, while Momo and Vulpix appeared on a blue one.
It was just like a gym battle in the Pokémon anime. The only regret was that they only had one Pokémon each.
"Did this just get installed?" Momo asked, a bit surprised. She was certain the venue had no such displays before, as it was originally a space for family entertainment.
"Yes, ma'am," the butler replied. "I noticed that the official battle venues in the animation always have display screens, so I had these installed as part of the multimedia information system."
"Well done."
Momo gave a casual compliment before walking to the other side of the battlefield with 'Vulpix' in her arms. She turned back to Kaminari and smiled.
"Kaminari, are you ready?" Kyoka, now standing in the center of the battlefield and holding the red and blue flags, asked seriously.
"Of course!" Kaminari shouted back.
"Ready," Momo nodded.
"Then, from now on, there will be a Pokémon battle between Trainer Kaminari Denki and Trainer Yaoyorozu Momo!" Kyoka declared loudly, mimicking the referees in the anime. It was a pity, though, that the only person in the audience was the butler.
"The rules are a knockout match with one Pokémon each. The battle ends when one Pokémon loses its ability to fight or leaves the battlefield!"
After hearing the rules, Momo smiled confidently and called out, "Then I'll start first—Vulpix!"
"Uuuuu!"
"In that case, Pikachu, it's your turn!" Kaminari shouted excitedly. 'Pikachu,' who had been perched on his shoulder, leaped into the field, locking eyes with the 'Vulpix' in the distance.
"Game start!"
Kyoka raised her flags with a sharp motion and announced the match. Kaminari wasted no time, shouting, "Pikachu, use one hundred thousand volts!"
"Pika—chu!"
Bright golden currents surged from 'Pikachu,' forming bolts of lightning that merged into a massive lightning pillar. It crackled violently as it tore through the air, heading straight for the vigilant 'Vulpix.'
"Dodge with high-speed movement! Then counter with sparks!"
The 'Vulpix,' small and agile, darted out of the way in a blur. Without looking back at the scorched ground left behind by the lightning, it ran a few steps forward and spat out a small, glowing flame.
"Pikachu, jump to dodge!" Kaminari called out.
"Pika!"
Just as the sparks closed in, 'Pikachu' bent its legs and leaped into the air.
"Boom!"
Although it was a small flame, it still left a dark, charred mark on the floor, causing the butler to frown.
"It seems the floor material will need to be replaced…" he murmured.
Meanwhile, Kaminari was fully immersed in the battle. Seizing the moment as 'Pikachu' avoided the sparks, he shouted, "One hundred thousand volts!"
"Pika!"
Electricity crackled again as another lightning bolt shot toward 'Vulpix,' who had just finished its attack.
"No! Don't get hit!" Momo's face showed a flicker of worry. Her 'Vulpix,' being mechanical, was far more vulnerable to electricity than a real Vulpix. A single direct hit might render it completely incapacitated.
"Vulpix, use Flame Jet!"
Realizing there was no time to dodge, Momo ordered her strongest fire attack.
"Boom!"
A roaring jet of flames collided with the golden lightning in mid-air. The two attacks were evenly matched, creating a brilliant clash of energy.
"Boom!!"
The energy reached its limit and exploded, sending shockwaves across the battlefield. Kaminari's golden eyes locked on the smoke-filled area as he analyzed the situation.
"Their power levels are about equal, but compared to Pikachu, Vulpix should be consuming more energy," Kaminari thought. 'Pikachu' only needed to draw electrical energy from its energy crystal, while 'Vulpix' had to convert electrical energy into fire.
"Pikachu, use high-voltage electricity to rush in!"
At his command, 'Pikachu' became enveloped in dark golden electricity. The powerful charge propelled it forward at incredible speed, closing in on 'Vulpix.'
But Momo's next command caught both Kaminari and Kyoka off guard.
"Vulpix, use Shadow Clone!"
A light blue glow surrounded 'Vulpix,' and suddenly four identical clones appeared alongside it.
"What?!" Kaminari was shocked as 'Pikachu' passed straight through one of the clones, only to find itself surrounded by five identical 'Vulpix.'
"Don't be surprised. It's just virtual imaging," Momo explained calmly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "If 'Pikachu' uses its detection system, it can easily identify the real one."
Kaminari hesitated for a moment before shaking his head. "No, we're battling like in the Pokémon setting. Pikachu doesn't have detection skills like superpowers."
He smiled and added, "But it seems Pikachu can learn Shadow Clone too."
"Pikachu, use Shadow Clone!"
Moments later, five 'Vulpix' and five 'Pikachu' filled the battlefield. The scene suddenly became spectacular.
