Chapter 527: A Brief Encounter, but Bearing Lasting Memories
Leon saw Altair's body emitting a faint white light.
But the light grew brighter by the second, and with it, a deep sense of worry welled up inside him.
Altair stared at her glowing body without the slightest trace of surprise.
"This is a sign that I'm about to disappear," she said calmly, a faint smile on her lips. "I've already passed everything on to Athena. Naturally, my duty here is done. So, I'll be leaving."
Her tone carried a sense of relief, as if a heavy burden had finally been lifted from her shoulders.
Leon opened his mouth to speak, but the words refused to come out. Silence clung to him instead.
It would be a lie to say he wasn't sad. Their interaction had been brief, yet Leon knew Altair was a genuinely kind person.
Maybe it was because that body was merely a remnant of her original soul, or because they stood within a dimension she had created—either way, Leon could feel the emotions she tried to hide: sorrow, loneliness, and more.
Even more so after learning that the gods were responsible for Altair's death—something about it unsettled him.
"Don't make that face, Leon."
A gentle palm touched the right side of his face, and Altair's soft voice pulled him from his thoughts.
He looked up to find her smiling, her eyes filled with tenderness.
Before he could respond, she leaned forward, rested her forehead against his chest, and embraced him tightly.
"Honestly, meeting you has been my greatest happiness," she said sincerely. "I've waited in this place for a time beyond counting—maybe tens of thousands of years, hundreds of thousands, or even more. I can't remember anymore. But you were the first to come... the one who finally ended my loneliness."
"And... all my life, I've never been close to any man. To me, they always seemed unpleasant. But…"
She paused and let out a soft chuckle. "That belief shattered the moment I met you. Even in the illusion I created, you stayed calm, even after seeing the woman you loved."
"You're also nothing like the men from my era. You didn't look at me with lust or desire. Instead, you remained composed, as if I hadn't even caught your eye. For the first time... I started to doubt my own charm."
The sadness on Leon's face gradually faded, replaced by a faint smile.
He wrapped his arms around Altair's waist and buried his face in her fragrant golden hair.
"Well, to be honest, I was very attracted to you. I even found myself mesmerized by your beauty. But... we've only just met, and it doesn't feel right to act indecently toward a woman I barely know, does it?"
Altair blinked in surprise, then smiled. "You're right, Leon. And that just makes you even more attractive."
As soon as she said that, she loosened her embrace and lifted her head to look at Leon's face.
Caught in a moment of confusion, Leon didn't have time to react before Altair rose onto her tiptoes and kissed him.
Her hands, once wrapped around his waist, now slid up to rest around his neck.
Leon was surprised—but he didn't resist.
It wasn't desire or impulse that held him still—it was the sudden warmth flowing from her lips into him.
His instincts told him this was no ordinary kiss. Rejecting it would've meant missing something important.
They stayed like that for a moment, lips pressed together, before slowly parting.
Altair licked her lips, then looked at him with a teasing glint in her eyes. "I didn't expect a kiss to taste that good. If I'd known earlier, I would've tried it long ago."
Leon chuckled. "Well, I'm glad you finally did. And I'm even luckier—getting my first kiss from the Dragon Progenitor."
His voice dripped with mockery and playful sarcasm, making Altair blush slightly.
Still, she quickly composed herself and said, "By the way, through that kiss... I passed the last of my power to you. You can feel it, can't you?"
Leon had already sensed it, so he wasn't too surprised. "Yeah, I figured. But can you tell me what that power is actually for?"
*Buzz!*
The light radiating from Altair's body intensified as she began to fade—her form slowly turning transparent.
She gently cupped Leon's cheeks and spoke softly, "It will bring you many benefits."
"But I can't explain everything—our time is too short. What I can tell you is that your physical strength will change drastically."
"On top of that, you now carry half-dragon blood, complete with our race's unique abilities. And because I gave it to you directly, your dragon blood is extremely pure—on par with Athena's."
Leon took a deep breath as he listened, his face filled with shock.
"Damn... This is incredible."
A boost in physical strength alone was already amazing—but dragon blood?
The dragon race was renowned for their overwhelming physical and magical prowess. This blessing made them superior not only to humans but even to demons.
With holy power and chaos already within him—now combined with the power of dragon blood—his strength was bound to skyrocket.
"Wow... so this is what it feels like to be the protagonist in a novel, getting a golden opportunity," he thought, excitement bubbling within him.
If someone had looked closely, they would've noticed his expression now was almost identical to Fiona's when she got excited.
"Then I'll take my leave, Leon."
Snapped from his thoughts, Leon looked up—only to see Altair's lower body dissolving into particles of light.
Suppressing the sadness rising in his chest, Leon tightly grasped Altair's hand.
"Thank you, Altair. Don't worry—I'll protect the dragon race alongside Athena. That's my vow."
Relief softened Altair's beautiful face as she heard his promise.
"Be careful of the gods, Leon. The Evil God you mentioned… it might just be a part of their conspiracy. Stay vigilant," she warned, her tone suddenly serious.
Leon nodded firmly. "Don't worry. I will."
After hearing Altair's story, his unease only deepened. She might be right—perhaps the Evil God's appearance in the past was part of something much larger.
And considering the glimpses of the future he'd seen, his suspicions grew even stronger.
"Good…" Altair exhaled softly.
"If only you had been born earlier…" she murmured, just as her upper body began to dissolve into particles of light, drifting slowly into the sky. "Maybe… I could've known what it felt like to love."
Leon stood frozen, staring at his hands—the same hands that had just held Altair close.
But the beautiful, radiant figure was gone, leaving this world forever.
He let out a quiet sigh and looked up at the clear sky.
"Our time was brief... but I'd be lying if I said I regretted not being able to hold on to her."
