Chapter 140: Chapter 142
After parting ways with Kisame and Dai Takako, Kirito and Pakura disguised themselves and quietly returned to Konoha, finding a hot spring inn to settle down.
The moment Kirito relaxed in the inn, a flood of memories surged into his mind. These were the experiences of his shadow clone, which he had sent earlier to rescue Karin.
The clone had managed to save Karin from the brown bear in Kusagakure. Recognizing her potential, the shadow clone offered to take her in as his disciple. Faced with the opportunity to escape the tyranny of Kusagakure, Karin readily agreed. Moreover, upon seeing Kirito's striking appearance, she—being someone who appreciated good looks—seemed eager to follow him.
Karin, however, pleaded for her mother's rescue as well. Although Kirito knew that Karin's mother might already be dead—her chakra drained by Kusagakure—he decided to investigate.
Arriving in Kusagakure earlier than the events of the original timeline, the shadow clone found Karin's mother barely alive. With Karin's insistence, Kirito's clone gave her a healing pill, a gift from the system. This miraculous pill not only replenished her chakra but also healed her wounds completely, restoring her to full health and even improving her appearance.
With both Karin and her mother in tow, the shadow clone fought through Kusagakure's defenses and brought them to Tanzaku Street, to the home Kirito had purchased for Tsunade before his departure.
Upon their arrival, young Chinatsu was outside in the yard, teasing Tonton. When she saw the clone, her face lit up, and she rushed to greet him. But the shadow clone gently stopped her with a hand to her forehead.
"Chinatsu," the clone explained patiently, "I'm just your father's shadow clone. The real Kirito told you not to have physical contact with any man except your father and brothers. These two," he gestured to Karin and her mother, "are Uzumaki clan members your father rescued."
Chinatsu's eyes welled with tears. "Mom! Dad brought home another woman and a daughter!" she cried, running back into the house.
The shadow clone sighed helplessly. Inside, Shizune returned from shopping for groceries and noticed the new arrivals. "Lord Kirito, who are these two?" she asked curiously.
The shadow clone explained everything—the rescue, the tragedy of Kusagakure, and the Uzumaki lineage. Hearing this, Shizune clenched her fists in righteous anger. "Those Kusagakure bastards!" she exclaimed.
The shadow clone nodded in agreement. "I want to leave Karin and her mother here under your care. When you eventually return to Konoha, you can introduce Karin to Lady Tsunade. Karin's Uzumaki heritage makes her the perfect disciple for her."
As the shadow clone spoke, Karin shyly emerged from behind her mother, her demeanor still timid and reserved. Unlike the fiery and violent personality she would later develop in Shippuden, she was cautious and soft-spoken.
"Come here, Karin," the shadow clone said. "This is Shizune. She will be your senior sister. Greet her."
Karin blushed, hesitating for a moment before bowing politely. "Hello, Senior Sister Shizune," she said quietly.
"Such a sweet girl," Shizune said, smiling warmly as she ruffled Karin's red hair. Though Karin flinched at first, she quickly relaxed under Shizune's gentle touch, finding herself at ease in the warmth of this new family.
Just as the atmosphere grew comfortable, an explosive voice shattered the peace.
"Kirito, you bastard!" Tsunade's voice roared from inside the house. "How dare you bring strange women home and make my daughter cry?!"
With a powerful leap, Tsunade broke through the roof, landing with a thundering crash. Seeing the situation, the shadow clone quickly stepped forward, stopping Tsunade before she could unleash her full wrath and destroy the courtyard. However, the effort of containing her strength caused the clone to dissipate.
As Kirito received the shadow clone's memories, he let out a resigned sigh. "That tiger woman," he muttered to himself.
If Tsunade was this furious over Karin and her mother, Kirito couldn't help but imagine how she'd react if she learned about his other relationships—like with Mikoto, Izumi, Kurenai, and Mei Terumī. Worse still, Mikoto had recently given birth to a daughter only slightly younger than Chinatsu.
"Lord Kirito, the mixed bath is ready," Pakura called from outside the inn.
"Coming," Kirito replied, setting aside his thoughts as he donned a bathrobe and headed out.
Meanwhile, in a large building atop Konoha's high ground, Orochimaru sat on his throne, listening intently as Tōru recounted Kirito's confrontation with Konoha's forces.
When Tōru finished his account, Orochimaru's snake-like head slithered forward, his tongue flicking as he grinned menacingly. "Ah, it seems Kirito knows quite a bit about the skeletons in the Third Hokage's closet. No wonder he holds such hostility toward him. But what intrigues me most is that he spared them. It seems there are some people he still values… like Yuhi Kurenai."
Orochimaru's tone turned sinister. "But no matter. Tōru, you've done well."
"Thank you, Lord Orochimaru," Tōru said, bowing.
"However," Orochimaru continued, forming a hand seal, "you're no longer of use to me. Since Zaku is dead, you'll serve as the next sacrifice for the Impure World Reincarnation."
Tōru's eyes widened in horror as his body froze under Orochimaru's immobilization technique. "Lord Orochimaru, please!" he begged, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.
Orochimaru's wicked smile widened as he prepared for the ritual.
