Chapter 141: Chapter 143
"Summoning Technique: Impure World Reincarnation!"
Orochimaru's fingers moved deftly through the seals before slamming into the ground. Strange symbols appeared around Tōru, binding him in place.
Particles of dust began to coalesce and wrap around Tōru at an alarming speed.
"Wait! Lord Orochimaru! No—AHHH!"
Tōru's screams echoed as his body was enveloped. Moments later, his vitality was drained, leaving behind only a husk. His form was replaced by that of the First Hokage, summoned through Orochimaru's forbidden technique.
As Orochimaru observed the reincarnated First Hokage, Kabuto approached from the shadows. Adjusting his glasses, Kabuto smiled wryly. "So, this is the legendary Ninja God—the First Hokage. It seems Tōru served as a suitable sacrifice."
Orochimaru ignored the comment, focusing instead on the First Hokage's body. He formed another seal, sealing the revived Hokage into a coffin for later use. With that task completed, he turned his attention to Kabuto.
"How is the news I tasked you to uncover?" Orochimaru asked in a calm but menacing tone.
Kabuto nodded respectfully. "As you predicted, the other two members of the Akatsuki group have left Konoha. After soundly defeating Kakashi, Might Guy, and other elite Konoha jonin, Fujiwara Kirito also left the village."
Kabuto continued, "He and his allies deposited the bodies of three Rain Village ninjas just outside Konoha's perimeter. I suspect this was an effort to obscure any direct connection between the Akatsuki and Rain Village."
Pausing briefly, Kabuto added, "However, their exact whereabouts remain unknown. Pursuing members of the Akatsuki, a group composed entirely of S-rank rogue ninjas, would be tantamount to suicide."
Orochimaru's interest piqued at Kabuto's words. "And what do you make of Kirito's actions?"
Adjusting his glasses, Kabuto smirked. "Konoha is weaker than we thought."
He elaborated, "It's astonishing how far the village has fallen. Once the largest and most powerful village in the ninja world, Konoha now stands as little more than a shadow of its former self. Fujiwara Kirito exposed its vulnerabilities for all to see.
"No one dared to stop him, let alone pursue him. Even the so-called 'strongest Hokage of all time,' Sarutobi Hiruzen, was spared only because of Kirito's former teacher, Kurenai Yuhi."
Kabuto's tone turned icy. "Konoha has become complacent, rotting in the false peace Sarutobi has built through endless sacrifice. When a village loses its purpose, its spirit, and its trust in leadership, it crumbles. Even the great ninja village founded by the First Hokage and Uchiha Madara is no exception."
Orochimaru chuckled darkly. "Kabuto, you echo my thoughts perfectly. That's why I've planned the Konoha Collapse—to force this decaying windmill to spin once more."
"But," Kabuto interjected, "you seem certain that Kirito is still in Konoha. Why do you think he would risk staying instead of leaving like the others?"
Orochimaru laughed softly. "That is precisely the brilliance of Kirito. He's unpredictable, doing whatever pleases him. While others would hide or flee, he deliberately made his departure public to mislead us all."
Leaning back, Orochimaru mused, "Kirito isn't concerned with villages, ninja systems, or world domination like Pain. To him, the ninja world is merely a source of entertainment. He moves the pieces on the board for his own amusement. By letting people like me and Sarutobi Hiruzen live, he ensures there's always more chaos to enjoy."
Kabuto frowned in thought, realizing the depth of Orochimaru's observation. "That would explain his actions, especially sparing Uzumaki Naruto. While others treated Naruto as the Nine-Tails demon, Kirito saw him as an equal. I hadn't realized…"
Orochimaru interrupted, his tone sharp. "You're beginning to admire him, aren't you, Kabuto?"
Kabuto froze, startled by Orochimaru's accusation.
"Don't bother denying it," Orochimaru said with a sly grin. "Kirito has a way of getting under people's skin. He finds what's broken in them and gives them just enough recognition to plant doubt."
Kabuto remained silent, removing his glasses and gazing at them. His mind wandered back to the time when he killed his adoptive mother, Nono Yakushi, under Danzo's manipulation. Was Orochimaru right? Had he truly lost himself?
Meanwhile, in Konoha Hospital…
In a critical care ward, Might Guy and Rock Lee were having their usual emotional moment.
"I'm so sorry, Lee. This time, I failed to protect you," Guy said, tears streaming down his face.
"No, Sensei! You are still the strongest!" Rock Lee cried in response, mirroring his mentor's tears.
"Lee!"
"Sensei!"
The two embraced dramatically, their tears flowing freely, to the exasperation of everyone else in the room.
Kakashi, lying in a nearby bed with his injured arm in a sling, sighed heavily. "Why am I not surprised?" he muttered.
The nurse attending to Kakashi tried to calm the situation. "Excuse me, could you two keep it down? This is a hospital. You're disturbing the other patients."
Guy immediately saluted the nurse. "Of course! We wouldn't dream of disturbing the youth of others."
"Right, Sensei!" Lee chimed in, wiping his tears.
However, moments later, the duo resumed their tearful display, albeit in hushed tones. The nurse sighed in exasperation, casting Kakashi a pleading look.
"They're always like this," Kakashi said with a wry smile.
At that moment, the door burst open. Sasuke Uchiha, barefoot and wearing a hospital gown, stormed in with his usual stern demeanor.
"Kakashi, is that man—Fujiwara Kirito—still here?" Sasuke demanded, his tone sharp and filled with urgency.
