Chapter 201: Chapter 201: Candidate for the Head of the Anbu
The succession ceremony for the Fourth Hokage concluded successfully, leaving the people of Konoha in awe.
Among the topics of conversation, the princess kneeling became the most discussed event in the village.
For the villagers, the elevation of a shinobi to such prominence signified that Konoha was on its way to becoming the center of the Land of Fire.
If things continued this way, Konoha might one day rival the capital city in prosperity. Not only would the shinobi benefit, but even ordinary villagers would gain from this progress.
As a result, Uchiha Mirai's reputation among the villagers soared to unprecedented heights. Even the legendary "God of Shinobi," Senju Hashirama, couldn't compare to the admiration Mirai received.
The Uchiha clan celebrated the occasion with fireworks and festivities that lasted the entire night.
...
Morning.
Uchiha Mirai stepped out of Rinko's room with a calm expression.
As someone of her stature, Rinko's compliance and lack of resistance made it impossible for Mirai to ignore her charms.
Leaving behind such thoughts, Mirai headed straight to the Hokage Tower.
Today marked his first day officially occupying the Hokage's office as the Fourth Hokage.
Several scrolls were neatly placed on the desk, all concerning the distribution of the wealth confiscated from the Shimura, Mitokado, and Homura clans.
Half of these assets were absorbed into the Uchiha clan's coffers, while the other half was distributed among allied clans like the Kurama, Hyūga, and Nara clans.
Mirai only skimmed through the documents before signing them.
At his current level of power and influence, money was nothing more than a string of meaningless numbers. He preferred to distribute wealth to ensure loyalty and goodwill among his allies.
After all, a combination of rewards and punishment was the most effective way to command unwavering support.
Even with overwhelming power, mundane tasks required capable subordinates.
"Hmm?"
Mirai raised an eyebrow, a subtle but intriguing smile forming on his lips.
One of the scrolls detailed the fate of a certain property—a modest estate that had once been the residence of Senju Hashirama and Senju Tobirama.
"Someone, come here."
"Fourth Hokage-sama!"
A woman with a masked face and long purple hair appeared before him.
"Yūgao, have this property transferred to my name."
"Yes!"
After Uzuki Yūgao left, Mirai reviewed a few more files but soon grew weary of the tedium.
It became clear that establishing a Hokage Secretariat was an urgent necessity.
Leaving behind a shadow clone to handle the paperwork, Mirai's real body exited the Hokage Tower and made his way to a modest residential area.
Knocking on the door, he waited until Kushina greeted him with a delighted smile.
"Mirai? What brings you here? Come in!"
After welcoming him in, Kushina poured him a cup of tea with a grin.
"The Fourth Hokage gracing my humble home—this truly is an honor!"
Mirai chuckled. "Kushina, I didn't know you were capable of flattery."
Kushina huffed lightly, brushing off his remark. Mirai had granted her the freedom she longed for; flattering him a little was nothing. Had it been the former Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen, she'd have punched him instead.
From a nearby room, Namikaze Minato emerged, holding a sleeping infant in his arms.
"Minato, it's been a while. Have you become a full-time dad now?"
Minato smiled wryly. "What choice do I have? I can't compete with someone as absurdly talented as you, so I'm relegated to babysitting."
Although becoming Hokage had always been his dream, losing to someone like Mirai was a defeat he could accept.
Setting down his teacup, Mirai spoke seriously. "Minato, how would you feel about becoming the Head of the Anbu?"
Minato blinked, surprised. "The Head of the Anbu? Me?"
Mirai nodded. "That's right."
Still puzzled, Minato asked, "Why choose me?"
The Anbu was composed of the Hokage's most trusted shinobi. He'd assumed Mirai would appoint someone like Uchiha Shisui to the position.
Mirai replied calmly, "Minato, my reasons are my own. Appointing you as Head of the Anbu is part of my broader plans."
"This is preparation for your future role as Hokage."
"What?!" Both Minato and Kushina gasped in shock, startling the infant Naruto in Minato's arms.
"Mirai, what are you saying?" Kushina stared at him, wide-eyed and confused.
Mirai explained softly, "Becoming Hokage is merely a step to ease the Uchiha clan's concerns. I have no personal attachment to the position."
"In the future, I plan to unify the entire ninja world into a single nation. I'll become the emperor of that nation, putting an end to all wars."
"When that time comes, the role of Hokage will be yours."
Mirai's words left both Minato and Kushina stunned.
Unify the ninja world? Emperor?
Was this the extent of Mirai's ambition?
"Why? Are you unwilling?" Mirai's voice interrupted their thoughts.
Both Minato and Kushina quickly shook their heads. Becoming Hokage had been their dream since childhood—how could they refuse?
Minato stood, his expression resolute. "Mirai, I'll do my best. I won't let you down."
Mirai gestured toward his empty teacup, prompting Kushina to pour more tea.
"Good," he said with a smile, downing the tea in one gulp.
In the past, when Mirai was still weak, the Namikaze couple had helped him greatly. Now that he had the power, he didn't mind giving them the happiness they deserved.
Minato's initial excitement faded into a more serious expression.
"Mirai, your vision for a unified empire to end war is inspiring. But even if you unite the world into one nation, conflicts will still arise between regions."
"Without war, humanity will grow unchecked. Overpopulation will eventually lead to resource scarcity, turning external conflicts into internal strife."
"This is an inevitable consequence of development…"
