Chapter 137: Chapter 139
"That's right."
Seeing Uchiha Fugaku's growing interest, Orochimaru's smile widened slightly, the corner of his mouth curling in satisfaction.
"What exactly do you want to trade?" Fugaku asked, his tone measured but laced with suspicion.
"The Sharingan secret technique," Orochimaru replied smoothly.
Fugaku's expression turned cold instantly. "It seems you've gathered quite a collection of Sharingans, haven't you?"
For Orochimaru to seek the Sharingan secret technique, he must already have access to numerous Sharingans. The question was, how had he obtained them?
"Don't misunderstand me," Orochimaru said, anticipating Fugaku's distrust. "I acquired these Sharingans from Danzo Shimura, not from the Uchiha clan."
Orochimaru's explanation was calculated. To ensure the deal proceeded, he needed to clarify his sources. Several months earlier, he had completed a transaction with Danzo Shimura, trading a Wood Release-enhanced arm equipped with ten Sharingans for other resources.
Fugaku's expression softened slightly. He was well aware of Danzo Shimura's stockpile of stolen Sharingans. Given Orochimaru's past dealings with Danzo, the explanation seemed plausible.
"The value of Hashirama's cells and the transplantation technique is no less than that of the Sharingan secret technique. Do we have a deal, Patriarch Fugaku?" Orochimaru's serpentine voice was both calm and persuasive.
Fugaku contemplated briefly before nodding. "Fine. We'll make the exchange tomorrow at noon in the woods west of the village."
Although Fugaku agreed, he had no intention of providing the complete Sharingan secret technique. The version he planned to give Orochimaru would be castrated, excluding forbidden techniques like Izanagi and Izanami. Even within the Uchiha clan, knowledge of these forbidden techniques was limited, and there was no way Orochimaru could be aware of them.
"Agreed," Orochimaru replied with a sly smile. His body sank into the ground, vanishing like a shadow.
Once Orochimaru was gone, Fugaku returned to his bedroom. Closing the door quietly behind him, he resumed the evening he had planned before the interruption. Brief whispers and faint breaths soon filled the room.
The next morning, after completing his training and enjoying breakfast, Uchiha Fugaku chose not to visit the Konoha Police Force office. Instead, he retrieved the Sharingan secret technique scroll from its secure location.
Sitting at his desk, he laid out a blank scroll and began transcribing a revised version of the Sharingan secret technique. The castrated version excluded Izanagi, Izanami, and a few other sensitive details.
It took more than two hours, but by the time Fugaku finished, the new scroll appeared authentic enough to pass scrutiny. Satisfied, he returned the original scroll to its hiding place and pocketed the simplified version.
As noon approached, Fugaku left the Uchiha clan compound and headed toward the meeting point in the woods west of the village.
Suddenly, he noticed something unusual. A faint but detectable presence lingered behind him.
He maintained his pace, glancing discreetly around. "Someone's tailing me," he thought.
Judging by the stealth of his pursuer, it wasn't Orochimaru. "This must be the Third Hokage's Anbu," he concluded.
The scrutiny was expected. With Danzo Shimura's disappearance, Fugaku and the Uchiha clan had become prime suspects. The person following him blended well into the crowd, posing as an ordinary civilian browsing the market stalls. Yet Fugaku's keen perception, honed by his Mangekyō Sharingan and enhanced by Yamanaka-derived abilities, betrayed the pursuer.
"Let's see how sharp their skills really are," Fugaku thought.
Spotting a public restroom nearby, he entered casually. Moments later, he emerged and continued down the street as if nothing had happened. The disguised Anbu, still believing Fugaku was unaware, maintained their surveillance from a distance.
But the Fugaku now walking along the street was not the real one. Instead, he had created a spore clone—a near-perfect replica—to serve as a decoy.
The real Uchiha Fugaku exited the restroom in the guise of an ordinary Konoha ninja. Disguised, he headed toward the woods undetected.
Arriving at the wooded meeting point, Fugaku scanned the area using his Sharingan. Aside from a single faint chakra signature—undeniably Orochimaru's—there was no one else nearby.
Dropping his transformation, Fugaku approached the designated spot.
Orochimaru emerged from beneath the forest floor like a snake slithering from its burrow. His pale face bore its usual eerie smile.
"Do you have it?" Orochimaru asked, his voice low and rasping.
Fugaku retrieved the scroll from his pouch. "And you?"
Orochimaru opened his mouth unnaturally wide. Two items emerged from within: a small green scroll and a transparent vial containing a fleshy, pulsating substance.
The sight made Fugaku frown in distaste. Both items were coated in a slimy mucus that clung to them like dew.
"Unpleasant, isn't it?" Orochimaru said, amused by Fugaku's reaction.
Fugaku didn't reply.
"Let's exchange at the same time," Orochimaru suggested, his tone neutral.
The two men threw their respective items simultaneously. Orochimaru caught the Sharingan secret scroll, wasting no time unrolling it. His sharp eyes quickly scanned its contents. Despite his lack of prior exposure to the Uchiha clan's techniques, Orochimaru's vast knowledge of ninjutsu allowed him to discern the scroll's authenticity.
Fugaku caught the two items using a handkerchief, wiping off the mucus with deliberate care. His Sharingan activated as he examined the vial's contents. The piece of flesh inside radiated an incredible vitality and emitted chakra laced with Hashirama's distinct energy.
He turned his attention to the green scroll, opening it carefully. The contents detailed the process for safely transplanting Hashirama's cells. Although Fugaku wasn't an expert in medical ninjutsu, the procedures seemed plausible.
I can only ask a trustworthy medical ninja to do experiments to verify it later.
However, given Orochimaru's pride, he would not fool him with fake techniques.
Satisfied with the exchange, both men nodded briefly in mutual acknowledgment.
Orochimaru retreated into the ground, disappearing as silently as he had arrived.
Fugaku, still disguised as an ordinary ninja, departed in the opposite direction. He would carefully analyze the transplant method later, though he already recognized the potential value of Orochimaru's offering.
