Naruto: Tobirama Reborn, Invincible in the Ninja World

Chapter 144: Chapter 144: The 61st Year of Konoha

Sunagakure

"Chiyo-sama, this is a military deployment order from the Land of Fire and Konoha. Please take a look!"

Inside the Kazekage's office, the Fifth Kazekage, Temari, sat across from the elder Chiyo. Though her face still bore traces of youthful inexperience, the countless upheavals she had faced had etched a gravity befitting her position as Kazekage.

Temari handed over a scroll with a steady grip, though her lips twitched at Chiyo's noticeably pale expression. Reflecting on the contents of the scroll, a storm of thoughts brewed in her mind.

Would she go down in history as the last Kazekage of Sunagakure?

And perhaps the most helpless one at that.

"Hmph, what big move is Konoha planning now?" Chiyo snorted coldly but still accepted the scroll with steady hands.

Initially, during the summit of the Three Kages, she had entertained thoughts of using the other shinobi villages to retaliate against Konoha. However, the successive destruction of Iwagakure and Kumogakure, coupled with Kirigakure's unconditional surrender, had snuffed out any remaining hope for vengeance.

She had even considered abandoning her position as Sunagakure's elder to search for her grandson, Sasori, and the Akatsuki organization backing him. But to her astonishment, Akatsuki had been completely absorbed into Konoha under Senju Tobirama's leadership! Somehow, Tobirama had tamed her once-erratic grandson, compelling him to work dutifully for Konoha. Sasori had even visited her briefly during his return to the village.

The sheer absurdity of it left Chiyo speechless.

With no other options, Chiyo sighed deeply, opened the scroll, and began reading aloud.

*"From the Hokage, Senju Tobirama, and the Daimyo of the Land of Fire:

A proclamation to the nations of the shinobi world. By the end of the first month of Konoha's 61st year, any nation that retains the daimyo system will be considered an enemy of Konoha.

During this time, Sunagakure and Kirigakure are to cooperate with Konoha's forces in eradicating—"*

Chiyo abruptly stopped reading, her hands trembling as she stared at the scroll in disbelief.

"This… this actually came from Konoha?" she stammered, her toothless lips quivering.

"Yes," Temari replied with a bitter smile and a nod. "It seems every nation in the shinobi world has received it by now."

"Insane… truly insane…" Chiyo muttered, her voice tinged with shock. "This is nothing short of declaring war on the entire shinobi world!"

Having lived for so many years, she was well aware of the state of the shinobi world.

While shinobi were powerful, not everyone possessed the talent to become one. Even the combined numbers of all five great villages barely exceeded 100,000—a drop in the ocean compared to the general populace.

This was why the daimyo, not the shinobi, were the true ruling class of the shinobi world. The shinobi merely formed the military arms of their respective nations.

Forcing the centuries-old daimyo system to vanish was sheer folly!

And yet, the Daimyo of the Land of Fire himself—a daimyo—had signed the decree.

"Has there been any response from Kirigakure?" Chiyo closed her eyes in contemplation before asking.

"They've already acted against the Daimyo of the Land of Water," Temari replied after a brief pause.

...

The Land of Water Daimyo's Estate

The moment the Mizukage, Terumi Mei, received the proclamation, she convened with her advisors and reached a swift decision: Kirigakure would stand with Konoha.

Soon after, a group of elite shinobi from Kirigakure surrounded the Daimyo's estate.

"This is the Daimyo's residence! What do you intend to do?" demanded a group of samurai guarding the entrance.

"In the name of the Daimyo of the Land of Fire and the Mizukage, the Daimyo of the Land of Water, who is decadent and negligent, is to be executed immediately!" declared Ao, a trusted aide of the Fifth Mizukage, his lone visible eye glinting coldly as he drew a kunai.

"Outrageous! The Land of Fire dares to meddle in our affairs? Is the Mizukage attempting rebellion?!" the lead samurai bellowed in fury.

Their answer came in the form of a storm of kunai and shuriken that reduced the samurai to lifeless corpses in mere moments.

Compared to shinobi wielding chakra, samurai and soldiers were little more than ants.

"Attack!" Ao shouted, raising a longsword as he led the Kirigakure shinobi into the estate.

The Daimyo of the Land of Water, trembling in fear beneath his bed, was dragged out and executed before the gathered shinobi. His severed head would later make its way to both the Mizukage and the Daimyo of the Land of Fire.

At first, most daimyo dismissed the proclamation as a joke. But the swift and decisive actions of Kirigakure shocked them into realizing that the Hokage was deadly serious.

...

Konoha: The 61st New Year

As the storm of political upheaval brewed across the shinobi world, Konoha welcomed the new year with festivity.

Konoha's decisive victory over Sunagakure had brought an abundance of resources and wealth, while the destruction of Iwagakure and Kumogakure led to a surge in missions for Konoha shinobi. Even Genin were now regularly completing missions with rewards in the tens of thousands of ryo.

Every villager spoke of the Hokage with reverence and admiration.

But amidst the joyous celebrations, Senju Tobirama found no time to rest.

...

Konoha Hospital

"What's his condition?" Tobirama asked, glancing at Deidara, who was writhing in pain on a hospital bed.

"That idiot blew his leg off while testing some 'co-op explosive clay' at the ruins of Iwagakure," Sasori replied with a faint smirk, though his tone carried a hint of derision.

"…," Tobirama sighed, wiping imaginary sweat from his brow. He had forgotten to tell Deidara that cooperative explosive tags were designed for use with Edo Tensei.

"Tsunade, can his leg be saved?" Tobirama turned to the woman standing nearby.

"Fortunately, yes. Sasori managed to retrieve it," Tsunade replied with a smile as green chakra glowed in her hands.

Tobirama nodded, then turned to Sasori.

"Your parents will soon be revived."

Though Sasori's expression remained calm, the light in his eyes betrayed his emotions.

With that, Tobirama disappeared in a flash, heading toward his next task.

Back at the Senju Clan's old compound, Tobirama pushed open a large gate to find Uchiha Madara seated with a cup of tea.

"You're finally here," Madara remarked, pausing mid-sip.

"What do you want?" Tobirama asked, grabbing a teacup from the table and downing it in one gulp.

… Bland.

"Well… I want to make amends for some things I've done in the past…" Madara muttered awkwardly, the word "amends" clearly difficult for him to say.
