Naruto: Tobirama Reborn, Invincible in the Ninja World

Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Return of the Dead

The first ray of dawn bathed Uchiha Madara's face in golden light.

His Rinnegan gleamed ominously, bursting with a strange, violet radiance.

The calm earth beneath his feet suddenly trembled violently, as if some unspeakable force sought to rend it apart.

Triggered by the disturbance, Senju Tobirama's eyes shifted. His Rinnegan, glowing with a cold blue light, surfaced once more.

The yin energy seeping from the ground became tangible under the Rinnegan's gaze.

"Boom!"

Under the stunned gazes of everyone present, a monstrous figure tens of meters tall erupted from the earth.

"What is that thing?"

"So terrifying!"

"It's like a demon straight out of hell!"

They had seen tailed beasts even larger than this creature, yet the oppressive aura radiating from its body made them instinctively recoil. Staying near it felt like courting death itself.

Adorned with a black crown studded with two slender white feathers, the creature's Rinnegan eyes mirrored Uchiha Madara's perfectly. Its massive frame was shrouded in a long, white robe.

Summoned forth, the King of Hell opened its Rinnegan and gazed down at the humans beneath its feet as if they were mere ants.

Its eyes then fell on the summoner who had called it to the mortal realm.

"Do what you must."

Madara locked eyes with the King of Hell, speaking calmly.

The King of Hell hesitated, seemingly surprised by the audacity of this human who dared treat it so casually. But after all, the summoning came at the cost of the summoner's life.

As it searched for the required souls within itself, the King of Hell couldn't help but marvel at the sheer number.

To summon it using a Rinnegan bearer, over three thousand souls had been exchanged...

Reluctantly, it opened its massive mouth. The black void within seemed to connect to the depths of hell itself.

Senju Tobirama stood, Orochimaru scribbled in his notebook, Hidan prepared for his sacrifice, and Uchiha Madara narrowed his eyes. Tens of thousands of Konoha shinobi stretched their necks in anticipation.

And then...

As if biting into a stone during a meal, the King of Hell's wide-open mouth paused mid-motion and snapped shut again.

"What's going on?"

Madara frowned in confusion. In front of so many witnesses, he had used the power of his Rinnegan and made a promise to Senju Tobirama.

If this failure made him lose face, he wouldn't hesitate to test the King of Hell against his Susanoo.

The King of Hell, seemingly taken aback as well, offered an explanation directly to Madara's mind.

"Namikaze Minato's soul is with the Shinigami."

Hearing this, Madara passed the matter to Tobirama.

"Skip Minato. Revive the others."

Tobirama nodded. It was within his expectations.

Minato had used the Dead Demon Consuming Seal to lock away half of Kurama's chakra along with his soul, sealing them within the Shinigami.

Madara gave the order, and the King of Hell obeyed.

The next moment, its mouth gaped wide again, spewing countless green motes of light into the air.

Each mote represented a soul.

The sheer number of them formed a green barrier in the sky.

Then, the ground trembled once more.

Thousands of fresh bodies sprouted from the earth like mushrooms after rain.

"That's my brother!"

"Father!"

"Sister!"

Cheers erupted as countless familiar faces appeared.

The floating souls were mysteriously guided into their respective bodies.

Madara, meanwhile, felt his chakra and life force rapidly draining, as if a floodgate had been opened.

"Quick!"

Tobirama shoved Hidan onto the high platform.

"Damn it!" Hidan cursed but dutifully formed hand seals, placing his glowing hands on Madara's back.

"One's Own Life Reincarnation!"

A stream of vibrant energy flowed from Hidan into Madara, balancing the loss of life force and halting the drain.

"Such strong suction... AHHHH!"

Hidan cried out as his vitality was siphoned away. Within moments, he transformed from a young man to an aged figure.

Yet an unnatural force bound him, locking his undying existence in place.

"A disciple of that god? Curse you! There won't be a next time!"

The King of Hell snarled at the sight, its expression shifting. With a final growl of frustration, it retreated into the earth.

Seeing this, Tobirama deactivated his Rinnegan, his tense shoulders finally relaxing.

Madara's life force stabilized at last, while Hidan collapsed with a muffled grunt.

Orochimaru, acting as an observer, quickly approached and pressed two fingers against Hidan's nose.

"Hokage-sama, he's still breathing!"

At Tobirama's command, the emotions of the gathered crowd, which had reached a fever pitch, found release as they surged toward their resurrected loved ones.

"Father!"

"Who are you?"

"I'm your son!"

Scenes like these played out endlessly.

"Where are my mom and dad?" Uzumaki Naruto's voice trembled with uncertainty as he scanned the crowd, overwhelmed.

Having never seen his parents in person, not even the photos he'd seen could help him identify them amidst the sea of people. Even Kakashi-sensei had run off to find his own father.

"Naruto, let me help you look!"

Jiraiya hoisted Naruto onto his shoulders.

"Pervy Sage!" Naruto exclaimed in delight.

Without waiting to express his gratitude, Naruto scanned the crowd, his gaze darting from one figure to the next.

"Mom has red hair... Dad has yellow hair..."

After a long search, his eyes finally landed on a red-haired figure.

"Where... am I? Minato..."

Kushina Uzumaki opened her eyes slowly, her mind still lingering on the night of the Nine-Tails attack in Konoha 48 years ago.

"So many people... Is this the afterlife?"

Stretching her stiff limbs, Kushina curiously surveyed the bustling crowd around her.

"This place feels familiar..."

Glancing at her surroundings, her eyes lingered on the ground beneath her feet.

It looked suspiciously like a part of Konoha.

And then there were the people's clothes... and their Konoha headbands. Her confusion deepened.

"Mom! Mom!"

A trembling, uncertain voice broke her train of thought.

"Who's calling me 'Mom'? I'm a married woman!"

Turning around irritably, Kushina's red hair bristled like an explosion.

She saw a white-haired man with a headband, carrying a small child on his shoulder.

The child was the one who had called out to her.

"Pervy Old Man? You died too?!"

Kushina's eyes widened in shock.

Although thirteen years had passed, Jiraiya hadn't changed much, and she recognized him instantly.

"Kushina, I'm not dead. You've been resurrected."

Jiraiya scratched his head sheepishly. Kushina's nickname for him brought a nostalgic smile to his face.

"Resurrected? That's impossible!"

Kushina's eyes widened further. The idea of reviving the dead was beyond her comprehension.

Before she could process it, a small figure leaped into her arms.

"Mom! Mommy!"

Tears soaked her clothes as the boy in her arms cried out, his voice raw with emotion.

Instinctively, Kushina hugged the boy tightly. Even as her clothes became damp with his tears and snot, she didn't mind.

A deep sense of familiarity flowed between them.

"It's him... Naruto."

Jiraiya's voice was soft, confirming the boy's identity.

"Naruto... my child!"

Tears streamed down Kushina's face as she held Naruto close.

"Mom!"

For the first time in his life, Naruto felt the warmth of true familial love. His face lit up with a genuine smile.
