Chapter 50: Chapter 49
Percy and his Pokémon lined up next to each other and prepared themselves for the confrontation against the Rattata. The other people took a hesitant step back as they saw the line of Rattata approaching. "That's way more than before. I didn't sign up for this." One of the civilians whimpered and slowly backed up.
It seemed to cause a chain reaction in the squad and more of them started backing up. The Ranger tried to reason with the people but they didn't believe him since even he was nervous. A couple seconds later they broke away running toward the town.
Percys face dropped as he saw that all the cannon fodder he had hoped to be useful had left him. The squads down the line looked confused at the sudden decomposition of Percys team. It seemed Percy had just gotten really unlucky with his assigned team.
The Ranger was inexperienced and cowardly which spread to the rest of the team. Even the Ranger backed off and ran when most of his team left. But Percy remained steady and him and his Pokémon got ready to confront the Pokémon.
Crash used Hone Claws and Fúria used all her moves to become as strong as possible. Around them 10ish images of Fúria appeared to distract the Rattata. Crash's tail became larger and rushing water covered the blue tree trunk sized tail.
Fúria raised her hand which was covered in red fighting energy. Percy twirled his hatchet in his hands as he watched the long grass flow toward him. He could see the purple fur of the rats as they raced toward Percy and his Pokémon.
Percy and his Pokémon lunged at the threat lashing out with their attacks. Immediately 3 Rattata lunged out from the long grass using different moves. One seemed to use Quick Attack, another used Take Down, and the last used Bite. Crash with his tail viciously attacked the one using Take Down knocking it out in one attack. Fúria countered the one using Bite.
It lunged toward one of Fúrias clones and Fúria hit it with a critical strike. Percy kicked at the last Rattata struggling to over power it. Eventually his kick knocked the Rattata to the ground where he stomped on its head knocking it out. He immediately noticed that his leg was sore from the contact and he decided to only use his hatchet.
After the first few Rattata, more filled their spots and more joined the battle. Now 5 Rattata opposed the trio. They repeated their actions with grace and strength knocking most of them out in one attack.
Percy had been scratched by one of the Rattata but nothing slowed his spinning hatchet. Crash was easily mvp (most valuable Pokémon) since he repeatedly smashed the Rattata with his tail knocking them out in one attack.
Fúrias use of Bulk Up and Focus Energy turned into a whirling fury of high defense, attack, and critical strike chance. Occasionally a weak Raticate would come in and upset the fragile balance they had going on.
By the time they defeated 25 Pokémon the Rattata decided to avoid Percys section and attack other defenders. So Percy and his Pokémon were left alone breathing heavily and watching their surroundings carefully. Once Percy decided the Rattata had given up he started treating his Pokémon for their injuries.
He used a potion on Fúria and had Crash use Rest to heal. Then he disinfected the scratch he had gotten and wrapped it in bandages. His face contorted in pain as the cut bubbled from the alcohol he kept in his medical emergency kit. After wrapping the cut on his upper arm he watched his surroundings. Other defenders were clearly struggling with the attack and could only barely hold the Rattata back.
Casualties were being made. When Crash woke up Percy left and helped the other squadrons around him. It was much easier helping when people are with him and they sustained much less injuries. After about half an hour straight of fighting the wave of Rattata finally slowed and Percy could take a breath.
His Pokémon were exhausted from the endless battling and could barely stand. Suddenly a brown flash appeared behind Crash. A Raticate appeared behind Crash who was completely exhausted and could barely move. It's teeth glowed a dark energy and it was about to clamp down on Crash's neck.
There's a very low chance Crash survives a neck bite when his defenses are so low and he's so weak. Fúria tried to leap toward the Raticate but was stopped by a different Raticate. Percys eyes widened as the Raticate was closer and closer to killing Crash.
A guttural scream erupted from Percys lungs. Aura energy crashed into the Raticate causing them to stumble back and freeze. Percy tackled the Raticate behind Crash and slammed it into the ground. He got atop the rat and slammed his hands into its face.
His face was scrunched in pure fury as he repeatedly pummeled the rat into unconsciousness. The Raticate had only been stunned by his aura but it couldn't fight back against the furious blows that continuously landed on its face.
Percy cupped his hands together and slammed them down like a hammer. Blood splattered on his face and clothes but nothing stopped him from his rain of abuse. Eventually someone picked Percy up off of the unconscious Raticate and dragged him away from it.
Percy kicked and growled his eyes darting back and forth. Crash seemed to be okay but was huffing and puffing in exhaustion on the floor. Somebody had stepped in against the Raticate that interrupted Fúria and was currently pummeling it with moves.
Fúria picked up Crash and followed Percy being dragged away. Eventually Percy calmed down and looked at the person dragging him. It was the man with the Rhyhorn from yesterday.
Once Percy was away from the battling he was let go and the man went to the frontlines. Percy saw that people he hadn't seen before were now at the front line fighting against stronger Raticate.
Percy returned both of his Pokémon and walked back to the town. His blood covered clothes made him seem incredibly injured. Blood dripped from his torn open knuckles onto the ground leaving a trail.
Eventually he was received by someone who took him in and bandaged whatever he had been hurt by. Most of the time he was silent and refused to talk to the people treating him. After he left he went to the man with the blankets he had payed for.
He payed for the second half and went back to the house where Ishigami was staying. When he entered the kids screamed in fear. He had forgotten he was covered in blood and stepped right back out. He found a dark alley where Crash could spray him with a low powered Scald.
When he was clean of blood he had Pharaoh dry him off by radiating heat. He went back into the house and collapsed on the floor with his two blankets covering his body. Crash curled up ontop of Percy who scratched his head silently.
Ishigami was walking through the house where he saw a pile of blankets that were at the front door. He noticed Percy and Crash in the blankets and let them sleep from their hard day. Percy awoke 5 hours later to a child sleeping on top of him and Crash snoring in his ear.
He slowly moved the child and stood up, the blankets falling off his body. He looked around to see Ishigami washing dishes. It smelled like recently cooked curry and rice and Percy drooled. Ishigami noticed Percy and set a bowl for him on the table.
Percy destroyed the meal and began chatting with Ishigami. The defense had been semi successful and only 50 people died along with 72 friendly Pokémon. The wave had been the biggest ever and the Rattata have been crippled by the losses.
Most people think that the Rattata will stop fighting now and rebuild their population since hundreds have been killed or captured. Ishigami predicted that the waves are reaching a peak.
The Pokémon are taking big losses and will have to give up if the humans are able to withstand the final waves. "Oh and by the way I checked with Professor Oak on what megastone I had and he told me it was a Pidgeotite. Unfortunately I don't deal with Pokémon like that so it doesn't have any use to me." Ishigami said.
Percy made a mental note to check in with the Rangers office to check his contributions and get a megastone. "And I told the Prodigy group chat that you are here and they told me to tell you, to respond to their calls." Ishigami said.
Percys face became pinched as if he had tasted something sour. In recent events Percy had not checked his Pokédex for 2 days now. Most of Percys time was spent sleeping or actively contributing and he didn't check his Pokédex.
He opened his Pokédex and checked all his messages. A lot of messages and calls were from Aurora which he promptly ignored. As long as they weren't life or death messages he would ignore them for Aurora. He had a message from Jason that asked him to talk about somethings.
Percy took a step out of the house while calling Jason for some privacy. 'Hello.'
Jason answered the phone.
"Hey."
'Oh Percy. How are you doing.' Jason said.
"I'm good. I've just been helping out Ishigami here."
'Nice. Somebody wanted me to call you and here they are.' Percy could hear the Pokédex get torn from Jason's hands.
'Percy!' Aurora exclaimed.
"Ah-I-m-cutting out." Percy faked losing connection and hung up. He sighed and walked to the Rangers office. A message vibrated in his Pokédex not a minute later.
Jason asked Percy, 'Are you ignoring Aurora?' Percy replied with
'It's complicated….. but essentially yes.'
'Alright then. I'm not gonna ask. But I should tell you Zoe is getting kinda pissed at you for ignoring Aurora. Good luck man. And one more thing. In two months I'm doing a super deep dive into the Viridian Forest if you wanna go.
I plan on coming out a couple days before the Viridian Ball so it will be super long. I'm trying to get a solid 5 member team by then. So you trying to go?' Jason explained.
Percy thought for a moment and responded. 'I think I don't have anything going on. Yeah I'll be there.' Percy put his Pokédex back in his pocket and arrived at the Rangers office. People milled about the front door and ignored Percys presence.
He found the man that dealt with him last time and called out to him. "Oh it's you again boy. What do you want."
"I'm here to check my contribution." The man walked up to Percy and said
"Your names Percy right. Let me check. We are still getting some of the files updated and sorted." He scrolled through files until he came across Percys. "Wow. You have done a lot in just one day. Defeated 40 plus Pokémon. Remained on the field while others ran in terror. Saved civilians lives. If I add this up you have 210% in contributions. Do you want the megastones now or later."
"Now please." The man left and came back a few minutes later with a small brown bag. Percy immediately stored the bag and bid farewell to the Ranger. Once he was in the semi safety of the house he opened the bag looking at the marble like stones.
Just like Ishigami he had no idea on what the megastones were for so the best thing he could do was contact Professor Oak about the stones. He informed Ishigami that he had received two mega stones and Ishigami congratulated him.
Once Professor Oak got back to Percy on the Pokémon the megastones could be used for he jumped up. A Gengarite and a Gyaradosite moved in a circle in his hand. He immediately called Ishigami over and told him that he had gotten a Gengarite.
Ishigami patted him on the back but noticed that Percy held the marble like stone out towards him. "Take it. I don't have a Gengar but you will." Percy forcefully took Ishigamis hand and put the stone in it.
Ishigami took something from his pocket and put it in Percys hand. Percy looked down and saw a different megastone. It was Ishigamis Pidgeotite that he had gotten. Percy thanked Ishigami profusely. It was much more like the would get a Pidgey than he would get a Gastly.
Ghost type Pokémon are very rare and Percy would have to go through a lot of effort to just find one, much less one with good potential. "How many days will you last with the food I gave you." Percy asked.
Ishigami looked into his Pokédex and said, "5 more days. 10 more if I limit our consumption."
"How long are you going to be here?" Percy asked.
"Probably two more weeks and then I will start doing some other things." Ishigami said.
Percy nodded and stood up. "I'll go and get more food to last you. Oh and I can take more skins to the blanket man if you want."
"Nah it's fine. I'll take them myself." Ishigami waved. Percy waved bye and left toward the Rattata part of the wilds.
