Chapter 355: Chapter 355
A month passed quickly, especially on Pokémon Island, where life in June was mundane and uneventful.
Most ordinary people were busy with work, while others enriched their lives by participating in gym battles, coordinating competitions, or traveling to other worlds.
For Dak, aside from helping Kayaba Akihiko construct Aincrad, most of his time was spent training in physical combat and teaching Esdeath.
Physical Training
The physical training wasn't Dak's idea—it was initiated by Madara, Izuna, and other members of the daycare, essentially forcing him into it.
Every day, Dak had to dedicate at least eight hours to sparring with either Zephyr or Garp, both of whom had plenty of time on their hands.
Esdeath's Growth
As for Esdeath, a month in school had tempered her arrogance. She had experienced enough setbacks to lose the overconfidence in her eyes.
After consulting Olvia, Dak learned that Esdeath had taken his words to heart and challenged upperclassmen Trainers to duels, only to be soundly defeated and sent running.
Now, Esdeath was training diligently, maintaining an 18-hour daily schedule of learning and practice.
She had developed a basic understanding of Pokémon theory and made significant progress in ninjutsu and psychic abilities. Following Dak's guidance, she began experimenting with fusing Suiton and Fūton chakra to create Hyōton (Ice Release).
Additionally, her Nen power had advanced noticeably. The clearest proof was her inability to use psychic abilities within Pokémon Island's bounds anymore—a testament to her growing strength.
For someone her age in peacetime, Esdeath was undoubtedly stepping into the realm of geniuses.
July 1st: SAO Public Launch
The day of SAO's public launch had arrived.
Dak wasn't in a hurry to enter Aincrad—there were still hours before the main event would unfold. Moreover, Madara and Izuna had not yet returned.
The two brothers weren't in the maritime world anymore; they had gone back to the ninja world.
Madara had spent the month focusing on physical training and mastering Armament and Observation Haki in the maritime world. He returned to the ninja world simply to accompany Izuna.
Izuna had been soundly defeated during his first week in the maritime world by a man known as "Hawk Eyes."
Izuna's Training
Hawk Eyes Mihawk, a legendary swordsman, hadn't improved his skills for years, yet Izuna still stood no chance against him.
Though both excelled in close combat and swordsmanship, Mihawk was a warrior—a master swordsman—while Izuna was more akin to an assassin, with sword skills that didn't even meet the maritime world's "swordsman" standard.
In their battle, Izuna didn't use any flashy ninjutsu, relying solely on the dynamic vision of his Sharingan. Even so, he was utterly outclassed by Mihawk.
Despite this crushing defeat, the encounter forged an unexpected camaraderie. Izuna sought Mihawk's guidance, and the latter pinpointed his key issues: habitual fighting methods and a weak physical foundation that hindered his swordsmanship.
Determined to improve, Izuna returned to the ninja world and had Orochimaru implant him with Zetsu cells.
While Zetsu cells didn't directly enhance Izuna's physical strength, they granted him an incredible regenerative ability. With this newfound resilience, Izuna could endure the grueling physical training required in the maritime world.
Evening
By evening, Dak figured Kayaba Akihiko had likely begun his ominous announcement in SAO.
Madara and Izuna managed to return just in time.
"Is that… Izuna?" Dak frowned, noticing the changes in Izuna's appearance.
"Yes. The cell implant drained a lot of my life force," Izuna replied nonchalantly.
The Zetsu cells had successfully integrated, and Izuna could now use Wood Release. However, half of his hair had turned white and brittle—a sign of severe life force depletion, much like Nagato's appearance after overusing the Rinnegan.
"Forget it. It's a small issue. Let's get into the game—you've been looking forward to this, haven't you?" Dak grinned, teleporting the three of them to Kayaba Akihiko's research facility with psychic power.
Kayaba Akihiko's Research Facility
Kayaba's facility was vastly different from those of other researchers.
Spanning five floors, each with an area of over 8,000 square meters—larger than a standard football field—the facility had been purchased directly from the Mystery Mall.
Kayaba conducted his research on only a small portion of the fifth floor. The rest housed Pokémon-version NERvGears, neatly arranged across the other four floors.
In Kayaba's office, Dak observed the monitoring equipment.
The NERvGears had already transported 5,000 Pokémon into the game. Each Pokémon was now scattered throughout Aincrad.
Kayaba himself lay on the office sofa, wearing a NERvGear. In the game, he was likely playing the role of "Death God."
Back on Earth, Kayaba's original body had already died—though it was uncertain whether anyone had discovered this.
"We're entering SAO now. Your accounts have been wiped, so you'll have to start over."
Hearing this, both brothers clenched their fists.
The frustration of losing their meticulously trained characters hit hard, especially after grinding their blacksmith and alchemist levels for a month.
Despite their initial anger, they calmed down quickly. After all, they were seasoned warriors, accustomed to setbacks.
"Looks like I have to establish another organization here," Madara muttered, recalling Dak's "actor mission":
"Use your charisma as a leader to form the strongest guild in the game and lead players to the top floor."
Madara wasn't sure about his "charisma." He had always relied on Dak and Izuna for support in the past.
This time, Dak wouldn't be participating as a player. Instead, he would act as a rare NPC selling Pokémon-related items.
Izuna's mission was to act as a lone mentor, guiding Kirito to become Aincrad's "Savior."
Madara sighed. "It's been 38 years since I've had to do something entirely on my own."
Game Start
Both brothers activated full-dive, while Dak would enter Aincrad physically.
A new screen replaced the darkness in their vision:
"Welcome to Sword Art Online."
The system scanned their real-life appearances to generate their in-game avatars.
The two brothers found themselves outside the teleport plaza on Aincrad's first floor.
"Is it still going on?" Madara muttered, glancing at the plaza, shrouded in a translucent red barrier.
"Check your inventory," Izuna said, inspecting his own.
Madara opened his inventory and froze.
Inside was an item labeled "Diamond Contract."
Diamond Contract
Allows the user to bond with a Pokémon. The bond must be mutually acknowledged to succeed.
Grants the sub-class Trainer upon use.
The bond is unbreakable unless the relationship between Trainer and Pokémon deteriorates.
Creator: Arceus
Creator's Note: "Memories are pearls, and friendship is diamonds. The bond between a Trainer and Pokémon is built on mutual trust and loyalty."
"This is Dak's doing," Madara concluded.
"Yeah, his in-game alias is 'Arceus,'" Izuna replied, tossing the red-and-white Poké Ball in his hand.
"Woof!"
"Huh? Did you hear that?" Izuna asked.
"Hear what?" Madara frowned, hearing nothing.
Izuna lowered his gaze to the Poké Ball in his hand, staring at it for a long moment.
"Woof!"
"There it is again."
Izuna smiled, tossing the ball into the air. "Come out, Arcanine!"
"Woof!"
