Chapter 9: Chapter 9

In the Hoenn region, in the city of Ever Grande, a meeting was swiftly underway.

The people who had the qualifications to attend this meeting were undoubtedly high-ranking officials or key figures in the Hoenn region.

Summoned by the current Hoenn Champion, Wallace, they had gathered in this city, which hosted the annual Ever Grande Conference and served as the political center of the Hoenn region. Sitting in the bright and clean conference room, they looked at the handsome man at the head of the long table, who wore an expressionless face. No one could muster a smile or a relaxed expression.

Everyone was frowning, troubled by the chaotic situation.

Beside Wallace, the former Hoenn Champion, Steven Stone, had also, for once, put aside his interest in mining and joined the meeting. Sitting in a special seat next to the head of the table, he rested his chin on his hands, staring at the table's surface, lost in thought.

Both men's faces were etched with worry.

"Mr. Wallace, the Elite Four members Sidney, Phoebe, Drake, and Glacia have formed two teams and, based on the intelligence gathered, are pursuing the fleeing Team Magma and Team Aqua. They've successfully led the investigation teams to arrest many members of these two organizations."

Standing in front of the long table, a man wearing a high-ranking League investigator's uniform, with several medals on his chest, was reporting on the pursuit of the two criminal organizations that had awakened the ancient Pokémon.

Under the relentless pursuit of the Elite Four, the lower-ranking members of these two extreme environmental organizations had been driven to their last stand.

Most members had either surrendered or, after a desperate struggle, were defeated by the overwhelming power gap and thrown into prison, adding many long-term residents to the Hoenn League's jails.

However, the news he reported didn't bring any smiles to Wallace or Steven.

Because...

"However, according to records, Team Magma's leader, Maxie, and the executives codenamed Courtney, Tabitha, and Blaise, as well as Team Aqua's leader, Archie, and the executives codenamed Matt, Shelly, and Amber, are still at large."

"Hmm, I see."

Even Wallace, who always maintained elegance and grace, had inevitably lost his composure after the events of the past few days. Upon hearing the investigator's report, he simply responded with a neutral tone.

"Another matter... Groudon and Kyogre, whose battle was ended by the appearance of Rayquaza, are also missing. Devon Corporation's investigation is still ongoing, and neither the intelligence department nor the research department can confirm the whereabouts of the two ancient Pokémon. Additionally, after investigations by the League's Psychic Department and the Legendary Pokémon Research Department, it appears that Rayquaza has also vanished into thin air, leaving the Hoenn region."

Under Wallace's emotionless gaze, the investigator reporting the findings broke into a cold sweat, forcing himself to continue despite the discomfort and pressure, finishing the report on the ancient Pokémon.

"The confirmed situation is that Groudon and Kyogre are still alive and could return at any time, posing a significant threat."

Finally, the investigator's report laid bare the biggest concern on everyone's minds.

"Sigh..."

Wallace lowered his head, his hands clasped against his forehead, letting out a sigh.

"..."

The silent Steven patted his friend's shoulder, then waved his hand to signal the investigator to leave the room. He then turned his gaze to the politicians who remained silent.

The meeting officially began...

The content of the meeting was actually quite simple: to discuss a solution based on the current situation in the Hoenn region.

Neither Steven nor Wallace liked such meetings, but for the sake of the greater good, they had to attend.

In short... the Hoenn region was in a dire situation.

Maxie and Archie, the two who had awakened Groudon and Kyogre, had, after their plans backfired, taken the 'Red Orb' and 'Blue Orb' and disappeared. Along with their core executives, they had abandoned some expendable pawns and used the opportunity to flee, evading the Hoenn League's pursuit.

With their high-tech submarines, they could easily navigate the depths of magma and the farthest reaches of the ocean, leaving them with countless places to hide. Finding the leaders and executives of these two organizations was proving to be an extremely difficult task.

Not only that, but Groudon and Kyogre still posed the risk of returning to continue their battle to make up for their previous failure, and Rayquaza, the only Pokémon capable of stopping them, had seemingly left the Hoenn region... All three ancient Pokémon were missing.

It was a nightmare.

Especially since the battle between Groudon and Kyogre had destroyed several major cities and towns along the way. The League not only had to focus on apprehending the two criminal organizations and searching for the two ancient Pokémon but also had to manage the reconstruction and support of the affected areas.

It was a crisis both internally and externally.

After days of dealing with various issues, Wallace, the current Champion, felt like his brain was about to explode.

He now finally understood why Steven had passed the Champion title to him...

The Elite Four had been out in the field, relentlessly hunting down the remnants of Team Magma and Team Aqua.

The Gym Leaders of various cities had been diligently guarding their important cities, fearing that the two ancient Pokémon might appear in their jurisdictions.

Even the retired Steven, worried about his friend, had emerged from the dark mines, bringing Devon Corporation's technology to support the League in searching for Groudon and Kyogre...

It could be said that the Hoenn region was now fully armed.

Every notable trainer affiliated with the official organizations had become an overworked corporate drone.

The reason was simple: the destructive power of the two ancient Pokémon was simply too terrifying.

Even if they did nothing, Groudon and Kyogre, beings created for battle and destruction, would unleash calamities that could affect the entire Hoenn region and even the world... If this continued, it wasn't just the Hoenn region that would be in trouble. Other regions' Leagues might also intervene out of concern for the disasters they could cause.

"..."

An hour later, the meeting finally ended.

Wallace and Steven watched as the politicians left the room one by one, their hearts still filled with bitterness and worry.

It wasn't that these politicians were useless.

On the contrary, as experienced veterans who genuinely cared for the Hoenn region, they had proposed many reasonable theories and practical plans for the two Champions, solving many of the problems they faced.

At the very least, if the battle between the two legendary Pokémon didn't reignite in the short term, Steven and Wallace could rely on Devon Corporation and the League's joint efforts to handle the issues in the affected areas.

However, what the two were worried about now was clearly not this...

"Metagross, I'll need your help."

Steven tossed out a luxurious Poké Ball, and a Metagross, its body shimmering with a platinum-like sheen, emerged from the light, floating in the center of the room with its psychic waves and electromagnetic force.

A Shiny Metagross, Steven's ace and signature Pokémon.

"Meeeee—taaaaa—!!"

In the next moment, the massive and sturdy head of the Metagross, adorned with a golden cross, widened its emotionless crimson eyes, emitting a mechanical and slightly piercing sound. Its four thick arms began to glow with psychic energy, spreading out in all directions and enveloping the walls of the conference room.

It blocked all external surveillance of the room.

Metagross knew that its master and his friend were about to discuss some important, confidential matters.

No one could break through the psychic barrier of a Champion-level pseudo-legendary Pokémon.

"Wallace, you've probably heard about the Rayquaza situation, right?"

"Hmm..."

Rubbing his temples, Wallace responded weakly to Steven's question.

Seeing this, Steven didn't waste any time. He reached into the inner pocket of his suit and pulled out a photo, placing it in front of Wallace—it was a photo taken by a League reporter who had risked their life to capture Rayquaza's descent into the battlefield of the two legendary Pokémon.

However, compared to the series of photos broadcasted on TV news for the world to see, this one was much clearer. The reporter had been much closer to Rayquaza, and the information and clues it contained were naturally more important.

Otherwise, it wouldn't have bypassed the TV news and ended up on the table of the two Hoenn Champions...

"This... look at this."

Steven's finger tapped on the photo, specifically pointing out a blurry, small outline on Rayquaza's head.

"We suspect it's a person, a human."

Steven succinctly stated the conclusion he and some experts had reached.

"...I still find it hard to believe. If that's the case, doesn't it mean Rayquaza has a trainer?" Wallace looked up, his handsome but exhausted face filled with disbelief and doubt.

Steven, however, shrugged. "I can't believe it either, but it's the only answer that explains many of the questions we have."
