Pokemon: Hundredfold Power Surge

Chapter 23: CHAPTER 22

022 Pass The Primary Election Directly! Take My Sister To Watch The Game

After passing the assessment, the candidates were led through a separate corridor toward the designated waiting rooms for the next phase of the competition.

Qin Yun's assigned waiting area was Room Six. While he was still unclear on the exact selection process, he figured it would become apparent soon enough. For now, he just had to follow the flow.

The waiting room was already occupied by several candidates, both male and female, all anxiously anticipating the next phase. Qin Yun scanned the room most were unfamiliar faces, though a few were recognizable from his school.

Without engaging in conversation, he headed toward a quiet corner, pulled out his Pokégear, and casually played a game while waiting for the announcement of the first round's results.

Time passed quickly, and after roughly thirty minutes, the intercom buzzed to life with an announcement:

> "The first round of preliminary assessments has concluded. A total of 723 candidates have passed. The second round will commence shortly."

The candidates straightened up, listening intently.

> "Match-ups will be determined based on assessment scores. The battle roster will be displayed in ten minutes. Please pay attention to the announcements and prepare to proceed to your assigned battle platforms."

On the Veilstone display in the waiting hall, the updated rules were projected in large text.

According to the new format, only 128 contestants would make it to the official tournament phase, meaning that the upcoming elimination round would be extremely competitive.

> "So only 128 spots… That means our school, Jiang Cheng No. 3 Middle School, will only get about 20 students in."

> "On average, that's not even two students per class. The competition is intense."

Qin Yun merely shook his head. The numbers didn't concern him. He wasn't here to scrape by his goal was the championship.

When the ten-minute countdown ended, the battle match-ups appeared on the Veilstone display.

At the very top, two names stood out:

Wang Qiu | Qin Yun

Their names were highlighted in gold, signifying direct qualification without the need for preliminary battles.

Qin Yun blinked in mild surprise.

"Did I… just skip the primary battle?"

His murmuring didn't go unnoticed. Whispers erupted throughout the room.

"Wait, Qin Yun? Who's that? How did he get ranked at the same level as Wang Qiu?"

"Qin Yun? Oh, he's that theory exam prodigy! He's topped the written tests more times than I can count. He's basically a Mega scholar!"

"Right, I remember now! People looked up his records before, but since he comes from a regular family, no one thought much of him. How could he possibly match Wang Qiu?"

"Don't you guys know? A few days ago, some of the Elite Scouts tried to recruit him. They even wanted him at Petalburg Gym!"

"Wait, was he the one who rejected Norman? The whole city was talking about it!"

Qin Yun sighed as the gossip spread. His Rival, Wang Qiu, was the son of the principal of Jiang Cheng No. 2 Middle School—an elite trainer known for his overwhelming strength.

On the Veilstone display, Qin Yun also noticed Serena's name in the second row, confirming her direct advancement as well.

"Not bad. This saves me time, might as well head back for today."

Without hesitation, Qin Yun turned on his heels and exited the hall.

For him, watching the matches had little value. Instead, he preferred to use the empty training grounds while most candidates were still occupied with battles.

After verifying his credentials with an official, Qin Yun left the stadium and headed toward a private training facility with a solid reputation.

Training Session: Fomantis & Kirlia

Upon arriving at the Jiang Cheng Training Grounds, he paid the half-day rental fee and stepped into the enclosed training area.

"Kirlia, Fomantis, come out!"

With a flick of his wrist, two Poké Balls burst open, releasing radiant light.

Kirlia landed gracefully, her gaze affectionate as she looked at Qin Yun, while Fomantis, now visibly healthier, stretched its delicate leaf-like limbs.

Qin Yun assessed their condition before outlining their drills.

"Kirlia, continue with the training plan from yesterday."

"Fomantis, we'll start with a warm-up just follow me for a few laps."

At first, Fomantis struggled, its small frame swaying as it attempted to match Qin Yun's pace. To accommodate, Qin Yun slowed his jogging speed, gradually increasing it as the Pokémon adapted to the rhythm.

With most students preoccupied with the six-school tournament, the training grounds remained empty but only for a short while.

By evening, as other trainers returned, the facility became too crowded, making concentrated training difficult. Seeing this, Qin Yun wrapped up the session and left.

The Tournament Continues Taking His Sister Along

The next morning arrived swiftly.

Today's matches would determine the Top 16, making the battles significantly more intense than yesterday's selections.

After showering, eating breakfast, and preparing his equipment, Qin Yun prepared to leave.

This time, however, he wasn't alone.

His younger sister, Qin Xin, insisted on tagging along.

Dressed in simple white sportswear, Qin Yun's natural good looks attracted attention as he walked through the bustling city streets.

Though accustomed to the frequent stares, he was slightly annoyed by the unnecessary attention.

Because the gym was quite far, and since Qin Xin was with him, he decided to take a taxi instead of walking.

Unlike yesterday, the stadium was now open to spectators, causing the crowds to swell dramatically.

"Kayleigh, there are a lot of people here. Don't run off on your own, okay?"

Qin Xin, bubbling with excitement, nodded enthusiastically.

"Brother, don't worry! You focus on winning. I won't cause trouble I swear!"

Seeing her innocent determination, Qin Yun chuckled.

"Just stay close."

However, just as they stepped forward, a young woman holding a microphone approached them, accompanied by a cameraman.

Her friendly yet professional demeanor revealed her identity immediately.

"Excuse me, young man! Could I have a moment of your time?"

Qin Yun paused, recognizing her as a reporter from Jiang Cheng TV Station.

"Sure."

She adjusted her microphone before asking, "Are you here as a spectator or a contestant?"

"Contestant."

The reporter blinked, briefly stunned.

"Wait, you're a participant?!"

She clearly hadn't expected such luck, stumbling upon a competitor right away.

Qin Yun smirked slightly.

"That's right."

The camera rolled, capturing the beginning of what would be a very interesting interview.
