Evan looked ahead, and saw that everyone was looking at him.
Evan was speechless as he observed the stinking mess left behind.
What just happened?
Does this guy enjoy being the center of attention so much?
Evan wasn't one for the spotlight.
After fuming internally for a while, he headed straight to the Pokémon Center to get what he needed.
The Pokémon Center wasn't just a place for healing Pokémon; it also had a store.
Evan was here to stock up.
If you're going to catch Water-type Pokémon, you'll need a fishing rod, right?
And of course, some Poké Balls and other essentials.
That's why he made her way here.
Upon entering the Pokémon Center, he went straight to the store and quickly bought everything on her list.
Just as he was about to leave, a voice called out to him.
"Evan?"
Hearing his name, Evan turned around to see who it was.
Standing there was a very handsome man, looking at him in disbelief.
Evan blinked in surprise.
"Colton!"
"What the—?!"
The man's reaction confirmed it instantly.
Darn it, the only person who would call him that was Evan.
He rushed over.
"Evan, why are you here?"
He seemed baffled.
Didn't you say you weren't going to be a Trainer?
Why are you here now?
Colton knew Evan well.
He was his old roommate.
"Why are you here, Colton?" Evan asked, breaking into a grin.
He hadn't expected to run into him here.
Colton, his former roommate, was a charming guy with a name he found endlessly amusing.
he couldn't count how many times he had poked fun at it.
Colton came closer and lightly punched his shoulder.
"You could've told me you were coming here!"
"You're asking me why I'm here? My home is in this city, genius."
Evan rolled his eyes at his response.
"What I meant was, why are you in the Pokémon Center?"
"Can you at least try to follow what I'm saying?"
Colton looked puzzled for a moment before answering.
"I came to buy something."
He glanced at the Poké Balls on Evan's belt, his curiosity piqued.
"What about you? Why are you out and about? Are you a Trainer now?"
Didn't you say you weren't going to be one?
Evan shrugged.
"I'm not a Trainer, not officially. That doesn't mean I can't train Pokémon."
"I've opened a breeding house and an orchard."
"Today, I'm out to catch some Water Pokémon."
Colton's eyes widened in amazement.
"A breeding house? That's awesome!"
"Do you need any help?"
"Are you okay on funds?"
"When something like that happened at the orphanage, I remember you lost all your money, right?"
"If you're short on funds, I'll lend you some. You can pay me back later."
Evan decisively shook his head, refusing.
"No need."
"Money isn't an issue anymore. I've been doing well."
"I'm not short of money!"
A small, confident smile tugged at the corners of his lips. Evan wasn't bluffing—he really wasn't short of money now.
He appreciated Colton's kindness, though.
Colton looked puzzled.
"What do you mean you're not short of money?"
"You rob a bank or something?"
"How are you rolling in cash all of a sudden?"
He couldn't wrap his head around it. Not long after graduation, Evan was making bold claims? It didn't sound like his to boast.
They were close friends—no need to exaggerate. If Evan needed help, he only had to ask. Colton had his back, always.
But this?
He stared at him skeptically.
Evan rolled his eyes.
"I'm serious."
"I've got an advanced certification now, and I hold several patents."
"Making money isn't hard."
"So, no need to worry—I'm good."
Colton's skepticism gave way to shock.
Wait a minute—he wasn't lying?
"You can't run a breeding house without an advanced certificate," he muttered, piecing it together.
"Does that mean… everything you said is true?"
"Of course it's true."
Colton stared in disbelief.
"Whoa! Since when were you this amazing?"
"When we were in school, I had no idea you were this impressive."
Evan shrugged, amused.
"You underestimated me."
"Ever heard of Morning Sun Energy Cube Group?"
"Their latest energy cube, version 3.5? That's one of my patents."
"So, do you really think I'm strapped for cash?"
"On top of that, I've got a ton of orders keeping me busy. It's been a good run."
He smirked with pride.
The money he'd made recently could rival what most companies earned in years.
Colton was stunned into silence.
"Well, in that case," he finally said, grinning, "how about this—you're buying dinner!"
"You're here in my city, and there's no way you're leaving without trying our seafood. We'll talk Pokémon-catching later."
Before Evan could protest, he slung an arm over his shoulder and started dragging him out of the Pokémon Center.
The financial crisis had been resolved, and that called for a celebration. If Evan was making bank, he could foot the bill!
Evan didn't mind; he was used to Colton's antics.
This had been their dynamic for years. Sometimes, he'd insist on treating him and then let him pay. This time, the roles were reversed.
Out of the four people in their dormitory, Evan and Colton had always been the closest.
The other two? Let's just say they weren't exactly "brotherly."
Who says everyone in the same dorm is bound to be good friends? Life isn't that neat.
But Colton was different. Even after learning about Evan's background during their school days, he hadn't judged him. He'd helped him instead—finding him part-time jobs and making sure he got by.
Most of his savings back then were thanks to him.
So, when Colton suggested postponing his Pokémon-catching plans to explore the coastal city, Evan didn't argue.
He let herself be pulled along—until they left the Pokémon Center.
Annoyed by the overly familiar tugging, he broke free.
Colton laughed, unfazed. He was used to his feisty nature.
"Alright, alright, you're free. But you're going to love this place."
He started enthusiastically pointing out landmarks and diving into the city's rich culture and history.
It was going to be a day full of adventure—and seafood.
