The Swampert's terrifying strength, defeating Sceptile with a single punch, left the battlefield in utter silence. The sound of people gulping nervously was particularly jarring in the quiet.
It took a while before the audience regained their composure from the shock.
When they looked at the imposing Swampert and the trainer standing behind it again, their eyes were filled with deep reverence.
Sato's Swampert had defeated such a powerful Sceptile in one hit. To them, for a trainer like Sato, dealing with unarmed people like themselves would be as easy as slaughtering chickens.
The mere thought of being targeted by Sato was horrifying. What would happen if that Swampert hit them with a punch?
"Thank you for the match. Next time, I won't lose."
Patt took a deep breath, retrieved his fainted Sceptile into its PokéBall, and gritted his teeth as he spoke to Sato.
He was seething with frustration. If only he hadn't been impulsive and had kept Sceptile at a distance from Swampert during the fight, the victory would have been almost guaranteed.
He had lost due to his youthful recklessness.
"Knowing you have such a strong Sceptile, I won't use Swampert next time. You know, the type disadvantage is too harsh. I can't fight like that," Sato replied with a sly smile.
"..."
Hearing this, Patt regretted everything. He knew there might not be another chance for revenge.
With Patt's defeat, it was now Kris's turn to battle, with Patt serving as the referee. Despite witnessing the Swampert's overwhelming strength, Kris wasn't willing to give up.
She had her pride, and she wasn't ready to hand over her beloved Pichu egg so easily.
Sato, not underestimating his opponent, recalled his injured Swampert and prepared for a new match. Both he and Kris threw their PokéBalls simultaneously to ensure a fair fight, as neither knew which Pokémon the other would send out.
"Your turn, Golbat!"
"I'm counting on you, Tropius!"
As soon as the referee gave the signal, Sato and Kris released their Pokémon.
"Tropius? Does she still think I'll use Swampert? This is hilarious," Sato chuckled at the sight of Tropius, a Grass/Flying type, which was a perfect counter to Swampert.
However, Sato had chosen Golbat, an excellent counter to Tropius.
While Sato grinned, Kris's face darkened. She couldn't believe Sato had sent out Golbat. The disadvantage from the previous match had reversed, and now she was the one on the back foot.
Golbat had both the type advantage and a higher level compared to Tropius.
Sato even confirmed through his system's scanning ability that Tropius lacked any moves effective against Golbat.
Sato shifted tactics completely in this battle. Unlike his aggressive commands with Swampert, he patiently directed Golbat to corner Tropius bit by bit, leaving no room for a comeback.
His calculated strategy was unshakable.
The final blow came when Tropius, in an attempt to turn the tide, fell victim to Golbat's Toxic. With Tropius poisoned, Kris's plan to use Synthesis and outlast Golbat was thwarted.
"Darn it! Tropius, use Leaf Storm!"
As Tropius approached defeat, Kris resorted to its strongest move in a desperate attempt to turn the tables.
Even then, Sato didn't recklessly pit Golbat against Tropius. Instead, he had Golbat use Protect and Steel Wing to minimize damage and avoid Tropius's final assault.
In the end, despite Tropius's best effort with Leaf Storm, it couldn't deal significant damage to Golbat, who had a quadruple resistance to Grass-type moves.
The poison finally took its toll, leaving Tropius unable to continue.
"Hmph! No gentlemanly conduct at all. Couldn't you let a girl win?"
After the battle, Kris puffed her cheeks, reluctantly handing over the Pichu egg to Sato, looking as though she were on the verge of tears.
"Come on, you were the one who insisted on gambling. Who was it that said anyone who reneges would be a toad? You don't want to be a toad princess, do you?" Sato teased, seeing her reluctance.
Hearing the words "toad princess," Kris shrank back, feeling guilty. She loosened her grip, allowing Sato to snatch the Pichu egg.
"Don't worry, I'll take good care of it," Sato said happily, placing the egg in a specialized incubator before tucking it into his backpack.
Afterward, Kris composed herself. As per their agreement, in addition to the Pichu egg, she and Patt fully disclosed their plan to raid the rogue bikers.
They explained how Wattson had organized several raids, only for them to fail due to leaked information. While they had managed to capture some members, the leader and core group always escaped.
Realizing there was a mole among them, Wattson, Patt, and Kris worked tirelessly to root out the traitor, ultimately discovering the bikers' hideout.
However, Wattson's reputation in Mauville City had suffered due to repeated failures. Few trainers responded to his latest call for reinforcements.
Just when the plan seemed doomed due to a lack of manpower, Sato's unexpected appearance in the area gave them hope.
As a local hero, Sato's reputation had grown immensely. After discussing it, the trio decided to approach him for help.
They initially planned to test his strength subtly, but Sato ignored their schemes, leading to his match with Patt and Kris.
"That's the story. Please help us, Mr. Sato! With you on our side, we can finally wipe out those rogue bikers and make a name for ourselves!" Patt said, his eyes burning with determination.
Kris, too, looked hopeful. For people born with wealth like them, fame was far more enticing than fortune.
