Chapter 132 - Talk
“…”
After Bai Yu voiced the “question,” she remained silent, watching YouYu, who still appeared calm, as if undisturbed by anything in the outside world. She sighed and then walked over to his side.
Sitting down on the lounge chair beside him, Bai Yu simply stared at YouYu in a daze once again.
Meanwhile, in her mind… memories of the past began to replay.
“…”
A few minutes passed.
YouYu, who had been lightly dozing, finally woke up. Thanks to his inhuman physique, he regained his energy within just a second or two of opening his eyes, showing no signs of grogginess.
Then… he turned his head and saw Bai Yu staring at him blankly, her expression tinged with bitterness. He was momentarily taken aback before quickly speaking.
“Uh… Bai Yu?”
“What’s wrong with you?”
“…”
“Bai Yu?”
“…Ah! YouYu! You’re awake?”
“Yeah, I just woke up. Did something happen? Your expression…”
After hearing YouYu call her name a second time, Bai Yu finally snapped out of her daze. She shook her head, sounding a little flustered.
“No, no! It’s nothing, really! I just… don’t quite know what to do right now.”
Thinking of WuYue and LiuMeng, Bai Yu sighed and continued.
“So I’m just sitting here zoning out…”
“…I see.”
Hearing the sincerity in Bai Yu’s words, YouYu nodded and didn’t press further.
Then… his gaze shifted past Bai Yu toward the door behind her.
Looking at the door… he seemed to realize something. Lowering his head, he fell into brief contemplation.
After a moment, he slightly turned his head, picked up his phone from the bedside, and lit up the screen. Glancing at the unread messages and the current time, he murmured with a hint of emotion:
“It’s already past eight, huh, Bai Yu.”
Recalling Bai Yu’s promise from last night, YouYu turned to look at her again, curiosity lacing his tone.
“So… Bai Yu, hmm… this might be a bit of a strange question, but I still want to ask—what did you make for breakfast today?”
“After all, what you said last night was pretty exaggerated, so I can’t help but have some expectations.”
“Besides, I can already smell the aroma drifting in from outside~”
“Uh…”
Hearing YouYu’s words, Bai Yu’s eyes widened slightly. She hesitated, wavering for a moment, and didn’t answer immediately.
It wasn’t until some time later that she finally spoke, her tone subdued.
“…Sorry, YouYu. I actually didn’t make breakfast for you today.”
“The reason you’re smelling something… is because I called WuYue and LiuMeng over… They’re the ones making breakfast outside right now.”
“Huh? So that’s how it is?”
Though not entirely surprised by Bai Yu’s answer, YouYu still put on an exaggerated “shocked” expression and sighed.
“No wonder the smell seemed so familiar…”
“Mm.”
Nodding, Bai Yu felt relieved when she saw YouYu’s attention shift away from her. She was just about to use this chance to lead him out of the room when—
YouYu suddenly spoke again, halting her movements.
“So… Bai Yu, is this the reason you’ve been acting like this?”
As he spoke, YouYu got out of bed, stepping beside her while pulling on his clothes. His tone was calm, yet tinged with concern.
“Would you like to tell me what’s on your mind?”
“Huh?”
Watching YouYu stand up, Bai Yu opened her mouth slightly, momentarily unsure of how to respond. After all, she hadn’t expected him to ask such a question.
She had controlled her expression and emotions so well just now—how had he still noticed?
Or was it because… it was YouYu?
Was that why he could sense what she was truly feeling?
After a brief silence, realizing she could no longer hide it, Bai Yu let out a helpless sigh.
“What I’m thinking… to put it bluntly, I guess I just feel pretty useless right now.”
As always, Bai Yu was direct, answering without any hesitation.
Then, shifting her gaze toward the window by the bed—looking at the endless blue sky beyond it—she paused for a moment before continuing.
“After all… the words I said to you that day, ‘I’ll do anything for you’… it seems I haven’t fulfilled that promise at all.”
Whether it was the “big event” when she met WuYue and LiuMeng that day, or the “small things” that happened afterward… Bai Yu was well aware that she hadn’t played much of a role.
Even something as simple as making breakfast this morning… had turned into this mess because of her hesitation.
So… once again, she found herself recalling the words she had spoken.
She was a magical girl now—not a weak “ordinary person” anymore. She had gained powerful abilities.
But…
Standing before YouYu, whose circumstances were just as unique—
Could she really live up to her words?
After all, saying “I’ll do anything for you” was, in a way, like trying to “forcibly” take responsibility for another person’s life.
Yet now, with her lackluster contributions, barely helping with anything—
Could she really bear the weight of such a responsibility?
Wasn’t that promise just… an empty reassurance?
A lie she told herself… to chase after a fleeting sense of “security”?
“…So that’s what you’ve been thinking.”
Having finished dressing, YouYu looked at Bai Yu’s reflection in the mirror, falling silent for a moment. He listened to the sounds still coming from outside, then contemplated briefly before turning around and stepping in front of her.
Then, he pulled out the chair from under the desk, turned it toward Bai Yu, and sat down.
Looking at her—her mood clearly low, her expression unmistakably dispirited—he spoke with a firm yet patient tone.
“Bai Yu.”
“I’ll be straightforward with you—your thinking is wrong.”
“We need to talk.”
