Reincarnated as a Doomed Extra

Chapter 10: Change[1]

"Huff… huff…"

My breath was ragged as I continued to run.

My muscles tensed and my vision blurred from the exhaustion of continuous running.

"Hah… hah…"

I stretched out on the dusty ground, exhausted, and gave my body the rest it deserved.

"Here. Is everything alright?"

I took the cup of water that Solon gave me and gulped it down savagely.

Ah, delicious…

I hadn't tasted a cup of water this delicious before. Really.

After refreshing my throat, I raised my torso and looked around wearily.

It was now early morning, and the warm sun was still on the horizon, giving the sky a wonderful mix of blue and orange. The calm mixed with the chirping of birds added moments of peace to this morning.

I was on the same farm where Solon works with Uncle Jared, except that I was behind it now, not in the middle of it.

A little behind us, Jared sat relaxed on a wooden chair padded with fur with picnic supplies beside him. He had spread out his rug and brought his own breakfast too.

For some reason, his calm, indifferent attitude made me a little angry.

'That bastard…'

He was really enjoying his time watching me suffer here.

I looked at Solon, who was beside me. "How many laps did you take?"

Solon took a few moments before answering, "I didn't count honestly, but I think I exceeded twenty laps…"

"Fuck… What are you? A monster?"

Even if he was the protagonist, this was too much!

It wasn't a difficult task for an Awakened to take more than twenty laps around the village, but for someone who had only awakened three days ago?

That was impossible… supposedly.

"No. It's just you who is too weak." Jared, who was comfortably reclining on his chair, spoke.

I looked at the old man who was pretending to be young with anger.

"And you, when will you teach me some real magic, damn it? I'm tired of all this physical training already!"

Of course, I didn't need him to teach me about magic or anything to be honest, but I had to pretend that I didn't know much about these things, like a normal, beautiful villager.

In fact, I could maximize my magic to a terrifying degree if I wanted to, and I could master a legendary sword art here and now, but my damned body…

That's why I was pretending to be a young man excited about magic.

As if reading my thoughts, Jared spoke, "Tsk, tsk. You children always fall in love with magic and leave the physical side. It's just as important as magic, you know, your magic will kill you if you're not strong enough." His tone turned at the end as if he wanted to scare us.

Yes, as if that would scare me.

I already knew that, but Solon's pale expression spoke of another story. He looked like he had seen a ghost and froze in fear.

"Does… does magic really kill?!" Solon spoke in terror.

Tsk, seriously, what are you afraid of? Look at your body!

It was obvious that Jared meant that magic might kill those with frail bodies like mine. If your body was healthy, there was really no need to worry.

Some weak bodies, like mine, can't withstand the intense mana surges that flow through them, which will cause very severe internal damage that is very difficult to treat, leading to death when it worsens.

And yes, these injuries also cause the Awakened to become disabled. Just saying…

Jared laughed. "Hahahaha. You don't have anything to worry about, Solon. I meant this pale one here." He pointed his chin at me.

That bastard… He's been annoying me by calling me pale all these three days because he seemed very amused by teasing me.

And most importantly, the fact that nothing had happened during these three days was gnawing at my mind and confusing me.

Where was the demon? The supposed demon that would kill us all?

In the original story, after the demon comes and kills everyone here, Solon moves to the city carrying the spark of hatred inside him. After that, the Holy Knights of Light come to take him.

Are you wondering how they knew he awakened a core with an affinity for the light element?

The answer was simple.

The Saintess was the one who knew when she simply received a divine revelation.

In the game, Solon was set up as the savior and preacher of this nation of humanity. The person who would remove the darkness and bring light to the world. All of this was predetermined.

'Ah, I really don't want to get involved in all this nonsense…'

Back to our training, as is clear, we were currently training to increase the limits of our physical abilities. After the dawn of our awakening and the morning came, Solon went to Jared and told him what happened.

Fortunately, we were able to avoid throwing an embarrassing party for this event, and the villagers were content to give us blessed words with encouragement and other initiatives such as small gifts.

The training we were doing was similar to any training on Earth, given that the human structure did not differ. From push-ups, sit-ups, and stretching to running.

During these three days, my awakening managed to restore more vitality to my body, even if not completely. I could even notice the difference.

Because of that, I was able to achieve four laps around the village… even if I was crawling on the last one.

My body also started to show signs of recovering health, although my sickly pallor didn't disappear.

I guess you can't change something natural that you were born with.

Besides this change, during my interactions with Solon and Jared in these three days, I noticed that my facial expressions were stiff…

I don't know how to explain it exactly, but it seems that my facial expressions don't move and are unaffected. As long as it wasn't something coming from the depths of my heart, they really wouldn't move.

It made me start pulling my facial muscles myself to give the necessary expressions in certain situations…

I'm just saying it was a pain in the ass!

"Okay, Solon. Let's start your magic training after you get your rest~" Jared said teasingly as he looked at me, which made my eyebrows twitch.

Apparently, this bastard was the only exception capable of moving my facial muscles without any intervention from me.

Upon hearing Jared's words, Solon was surprised by the sudden deviation in his training schedule.

"Eh? But what about Selas? I don't want to start before him. Can't we start together?" he asked.

Jared shook his head in pity as he pointed at me. "If you wait until this twig is able to train his magic, your hair will be white, boy."

That's it.

The last straw.

In an instant, I pushed mana into my feet, giving me a strong boost forward towards Jared. I tightened my slender fingers into a fist as I launched towards him.

I felt the air caress me as I flew towards Jared, who was taking an indifferent stance, looking at me with a smile on his face. That indifferent attitude and smug smile did nothing but make me clench my fists tighter.

[You have learned the common skill - "Dash"!]

I ignored the floating screen and approached him, pulled my fist back, and launched it towards him with all my might and momentum.

With the same indifferent expression on his face, Jared raised his palm and caught my fist, causing a wave of air to appear from the point of impact.

"Selas, what are you doing?!"

Solon shouted, taking a step back in surprise.

I quickly retreated, suppressing the pain that traveled through my bones from the clash, and spat angrily, "What do you think of this, old man?"

Jared shook his hand with a smile. "That's really great. Where did you learn this?"

"Hmph. What else? I taught myself. Do you really think I need the advice of an old man with one foot in the grave?" I replied with disdain.

Jared didn't answer and just raised his arm towards me.

Wait, he's not going to use magic, is he?

And that was proven when I felt particles of water mana condensing in his palm. Being at the highest level of affinity with the water element, I was able to do that easily.

At the same moment, I realized that a long horizontal gust of water shot out from his palm, heading towards me at an alarming speed.

Instinctively, I stepped back and spread my hand towards the horizontal water column, and before it reached me, it began to freeze.

My frost spread over his water like cancer and froze it completely. After that, the frozen blast of water fell to the ground and shattered, but it didn't disappear.

"Hehe. Is that all you've got, old man?"

I knew he was being very lenient with me, but I didn't want to miss an opportunity to rub his wound.

Jared's eyes widened as he looked at the remains of his shattered spell. He looked at me in surprise, shouting, "You awakened the frost element?! Why didn't you say so before?"

Even Solon looked surprised…

And then I realized.

During the three days, I only used water magic in front of them to water the plants, which gave them the impression that it was my only element, and since they didn't want to make me feel frustrated, probably, they didn't ask me more.

I felt the urge to slap my forehead.

I looked at them embarrassedly and spoke.

"Actually, I awakened three elements…"

"Three?!"

Both of them shouted in unison, which made me respond to them with a nod of my head.

I intended to hide the darkness element to be honest, because it is sometimes misunderstood as an evil element, but I felt like I could put my trust in them, so I shrugged and spoke, "Besides the water and frost element, I awakened the darkness element."

Here we go, I said it.

Suddenly, Jared's enthusiasm calmed down and he looked at me with a thoughtful look. "Hmm, the darkness element…" He shook his head with a mocking pity. "Try to hide this element as much as you can, Selas. Some fools misunderstand this element as a blessing from an evil entity."
