Chapter 5: Get the baby treatment
I woke up to the bright sunlight that invaded my room and cast its intense glow on my eyelids. I squirmed lazily, wanting more of the sleep I hadn't gotten much of.
Knock Knock
However, the sound of light knocking on the door didn't allow me to continue my sleep.
I lazily got out of bed, walking with half-closed eyes towards the door before opening it.
"It's already noon, Selas. Didn't you sleep well?"
Solon, energetic as usual, stood before me, asking with a touch of curiosity mixed with concern. Despite his energy, I noticed that his eyes were somewhat swollen, which indicates a lack of sleep.
Did he stay awake all night?
"Ummm. Kind of. I had a bad dream today." I replied, wanting to close the door and go back to sleep.
I wasn't as tired as yesterday, but I was missing sleep. Just a little…
Hmm?
What is this wonderful smell?
Solon noticed the twitching of my nose with a smile before saying, "I left you food on the table in the living room. I'm going to help Uncle Jared on the farm now. Eat the food before you sleep at least."
With that, he patted my head as if I were a small child and walked out of the house.
At this moment, I didn't feel anything really. Even if I struggled, he would continue to do it, so I ignored it and went to the bathroom to freshen up and start my day.
After answering the call of nature that had been calling me for a while during my sleep, I stood in front of the sink, brushing my teeth and staring into the mirror.
"Hoho."
Look at that face…
I lightly touched my smooth face and ran my hand over my delicately sculpted features. My skin was still sickly pale, but in one way or another, that added its own charm.
My cheeks were already going through puberty, but there was a hint of their round shape that they had before. My eyebrows defined their place above my eyes like guarding swords, while my long eyelashes fluttered like small butterflies.
My hair fell in a wavy waterfall like a curtain that hid all aspects of my divine face. While my deep black eyes were partially hidden under my long bangs.
'Ah, damn. Should I really sell my body?' I thought as I hugged my trembling body.
Maybe, maybe if I don't awaken my own core, I might sell my body to a famous and powerful lady…
Focus!
I shook my head vigorously, pushing away the thoughts that were swirling in my head about selling my body.
And why did it always have to be about a famous and powerful lady?
Even if I would like that, it doesn't change the fact that I'm selling my poor body!
No, wait. I don't like that!
I pushed my hair away from my face, revealing my features to the outside. The former Selas always let it fall on his face, hiding his features.
And that was a waste, to be honest…
I took a comb that was hanging next to the sink and combed my hair a little before stopping and throwing it back in a messy way. There were still long strands rolling down the sides of my face and framing it.
After fifteen minutes of scrutinizing my appearance in the mirror, I nodded my head in approval.
This was undoubtedly better.
After confirming my appearance, I left the bathroom, heading towards the living room to eat. The smell alone made my stomach turn and my mouth water.
A small table that could fit three people was filled with food. There was delicious-looking toasted bread with a pot full of meat soup with grains. Next to them, steam rose from a cup filled with mint tea. There were also many different fruits.
Grrr
My stomach growled at the sight of the table waiting for me to explore it. Usually, I was the one who always cooked after our parents died, but in rare cases like now, Solon does it.
And let me say this, my cooking is also the best. As a result of not going out much, I had mastered the art of cooking a long time ago.
Forget the protagonist, I am better…
I quickly immersed myself in the delicious food in front of me, stuffing my mouth with all kinds of food on the table until I felt my stomach bulge.
"Hic. That was good."
I let out a satisfied burp as I rubbed my stomach before standing up lazily and going to wash my mouth.
After a short while, I put on another pair of the same loose black clothes that I was wearing yesterday and left the house, strolling around the village.
Since I had nothing to do, I decided that I would stroll around a bit and go see Solon with Uncle Jared.
By the way, Uncle Jared was the one who bought our parents' farm with the intention of giving us money. Thinking about it, he must have felt pity when he did that.
After two minutes of walking and waving to the rest of the passing villagers who gave surprised looks at my appearance, I arrived at a large area filled with different types of trees and plants. This was the entire village farm.
Parts of it were marked with bricks in a square shape and some with wires so that the owners of the specific parts could be identified.
In the distance, I saw a shirtless Solon plowing in one of the designated areas next to a large old man, probably in his early forties.
Despite his old age, his toned body was very evident under his clothes, which consisted of a white vest with open-top buttons and soft black pants.
He had black hair and healthy skin without any visible wrinkles. His light blue eyes radiated strength, giving him an elegant appearance that belied his age.
All awakened ones are beautiful… no, all the people in this world are beautiful if compared to the people on Earth.
Mana and what it does, huh.
Anyway, this person was Jared, one of the few awakened people in our humble village. He and the few awakened ones beside him took on the task of protecting the village from bandits who raid small villages or any stray monsters that crossed paths with the village.
'Although they failed miserably in the opening event…'
I approached them close enough for Uncle Jared to notice my approach to them specifically.
A look of deep thought appeared on his face as he rubbed his chin with his hand. It was clear that he didn't recognize me. Maybe because I haven't gone out much for a long time.
Solon was engrossed in plowing, which was evident from the twitching of his shirtless body muscles. Sweat was literally dripping from his body as if he were bathing in the rain.
That idiot…
He was helping Uncle Jared by taking this arduous thing as training for him… and yet I can't deny his well-built body from all the work.
Well, if Uncle Jared didn't give him a decent price for what he was doing, the former Selas wouldn't have agreed in the first place.
When I got close enough, Uncle Jared turned to me and asked me curiously, "Who are you? I don't remember seeing your face in this village before."
Does he really not remember me…?
The people in the village were like one big family, so everyone recognizes each other easily…
Anyway, I didn't answer and looked at him with a skeptical frown on my face. Maybe he was playing a prank on me?
When Uncle Jared was about to ask again, Solon had seen the situation. "Eh, Selas. What are you doing here?" he spoke, wiping the thick sweat from his face.
Oh man, that's disgusting…
"Selas?! Pale Selas?" Jared shouted loudly, his eyes widening completely in shock.
'Oh, come on. Not you too!'
I covered my ears from his loud shout and looked at him angrily at the nickname he gave me.
Upon seeing my angry look, Jared confirmed my identity, approaching me with a big smile on his face before carrying me like a child against my will and spinning me around in place.
"Damn you. Put me down!"
I screamed at him, trying to keep up with the speed of the world spinning around me. I held onto his muscular arms as if my life was at stake.
And it really was!
"Hahahaha. Look at you now. This was your favorite game when you were little. Hahaha." He said something embarrassing with a teasing smile as he continued to spin me.
I felt the food I ate a while ago knocking on the door of my throat to get out of my body from the intensity of the rapid spinning.
After a short while of Solon begging to spare my life, the spinning speed decreased until it stopped.
I regained all the air I lost in the embarrassing process a while ago.
"Huff… huff… you sicko…"
My dry and angry voice came out, targeting Jared, which provoked a deadly mockery from him.
"Hmm, aren't you the delicate one?" he said with feigned innocence that ignited my anger.
"You!… Just wait until I awaken. I'll kick your old ass! I swear!" I shouted at him in frustration. He made me feel like a twig a while ago.
Solon approached me, raising his hand, trying to calm me down. "Okay, okay, Selas. Calm down. You know he was just joking."
If you really wanted to calm me down, then hide your twitching smile well…
I looked at them with a frown as they laughed. Then I turned on my heel, intending to leave.
'Damn, why did I come here in the first place?'
As I was thinking about my wrong life decision, I felt a heavy hand pulling me back as if I were a light feather.
When I turned my head in surprise, I could see Jared's devilish smile and Solon's apologetic smile as he stood behind him.
Knowing what would happen to me, involuntarily, a surprised scream slipped from my mouth.
After that, the world spun again, and a desperate scream for help escaped my lips.
"Nooooo!"
