Reincarnated as a Doomed Extra

Chapter 7: The Pale Moon

I felt a shiver run down my entire body as I jolted upright from where I'd been lying.

I placed a hand over my racing heart, feeling it thud against my palm.

"What—what was that?"

'Could it be the church's evil entity…?'

'Has it finally come to possess me?' I thought, horrified.

No. I shook my head, trying to dismiss the all-too-real possibility. After all, it wasn't unheard of for such entities to take lesser beings as vessels to descend to the mortal realm – for whatever reason.

Even the Goddess of Light was known to take the Saintess as a vessel on occasion…

Assuming that was true, was this entity just…stupid?

'It seems it mistook me for the protagonist,' I thought, stifling a nervous laugh, terrified that it might hear me.

Its taste in vessels is truly… fitting.

You deserve it!

Kuhohoho, I did it…

I sealed an evil entity…

After a period of cursing the evil entity in my head, I focused on my mana core.

Frankly, I was still reeling from what had happened and how ridiculously easy it had been. Usually, closing that small gap alone would take two to three days, let alone forming such a perfect core in mere minutes!

How was this even possible?

And yet, there it was, gleaming and warm, just as it should be.

I felt the core pulsing beneath my lungs, releasing gentle bursts of mana. It resembled a heart in some ways, though the differences were significant.

The core pulsed, releasing harmless bursts of the mana stored within it, giving life to the newly formed veins. The further one advanced in rank, the less frequent those bursts would become.

The blue veins were spread throughout my body, a network reaching every part.

Even if a critical point existed where the mana veins might disrupt the function of another organ, the mana would find another path, a detour, to reach its destination.

A healthier, less pallid color had returned to my skin. My body was still weak, my bones still somewhat visible beneath the skin, but I felt a surge of vitality coursing through me.

It wouldn't be long before I was back to my former self, and even better.

Truly, I still could hardly believe it.

Just a short while ago, I was convinced I was dying, and all that nonsense. Who would have thought?

The best feeling was knowing I'd formed my core before my little brother--before the protagonist--even though we were the same age.

"Hmph. As expected of me." I tossed my hair aside.

Maybe, just maybe, if this world had given me a system, I would have played the role of the protagonist. But since it abandoned me, I'd abandon it in return. Simple as that.

Now, with that settled…

I snapped my fingers and whispered with anticipation.

"Status."

Immediately, a translucent, grey-tinged screen materialized before me, displaying my status.

[Name: Selas]

[Rank: Apprentice - I]

[Attributes]

[Elements]

[Elemental Mastery]

"Hehehe…"

This translucent, grey-tinged screen was accessible to all Awakened.

A laugh slipped from my lips as I stared at the elegant screen floating before me.

The words it displayed were in a language completely foreign to me – the Runic language – yet I could understand them effortlessly.

As with any fantasy video game, there were ranks that distinguished the Awakened from the un-Awakened, and from each other.

In this world, there were many powerful Awakened who possessed unique strengths, setting them apart.

If you thought that elements were the limit of an Awakened's potential, you'd be sorely mistaken.

There were countless factors that could blindside you on the battlefield, leading to your death if you underestimated them.

Beyond the elements, there were bloodlines, legacies, and a host of other strengths. Of course, one needed the skill to wield these powers effectively. Unlike elements, which were intrinsic, these were more like external enhancements.

Anyway, getting back to the ranking system for the Awakened, it went like this:

Apprentice

Awakener

Adept

Proficient

Master

Grandmaster

Guardian

Saint

Lord

Each rank was further divided into three stages, at least, that's what was commonly known, especially among the lower tiers of society.

From my knowledge of the game, I knew there were three additional ranks beyond these, making the full hierarchy quite extensive, to be honest.

These ranks were:

Ascender

Transcender

Archon

So, the Archon rank was the pinnacle of power in this world… or, most likely, the pinnacle known power.

There were entities worshipped as gods, after all, so I couldn't be certain.

With that sorted, I moved to the [Attributes] tab and selected it, revealing several sub-categories below.

[Attributes]

[The Pale Moon]

[Prince of Darkness]

[Eternal Winter]

"…"

"Damn…" My scalp prickled as I stared, dumbfounded, at the floating words. Utter disbelief was etched on my face.

I'd expected an attribute, given my situation, but I certainly hadn't expected this.

Why? You might ask.

Because I didn't possess a special bloodline or some ancient legacy…

Here, I was truly just an ordinary person.

Except for my beauty, which was the strongest game-changing trump card, I had nothing.

But three was a bit… excessive.

It was exactly like what happened with Solon too… even though we didn't get a bloodline…

I rubbed my chin, staring at the screen suspiciously. There was a mystery here. I was more than sure of it.

Was it because we were twins?

I knew that most twins get the same mana signature. That's if they were identical twins only, as far as I know. Otherwise, their mana signature would be considered completely different and unique like any other person.

In our case, Solon and I, we weren't just different, but we were like each other's opposites. As I said before, if I hadn't known my parents, I would have thought that one of us was adopted, really.

[The Pale Moon]

[Class: Physique]

[Description: Among the five, the moon is considered the most beautiful as much as it is the most dangerous]

"Huh?"

My eyes widened in shock upon seeing the words recorded on the screen. I covered my mouth with my hand to suppress the cry of surprise that wanted to escape my mouth.

'Physique?!'

I re-read and scrutinized every letter of the [The Pale Moon] attribute.

Real, it's real…

I really have a physique…

The Pale Moon.

Although I didn't play the game seriously and had forgotten many details, I knew a little about physiques. After all, most physiques were superior to bloodlines and inheritances.

From what I know, there were many physiques in the world, but to be born with one of them was something very rare, with a probability of one in a hundred thousand and some in a million… and this was for the lower and middle-grade physiques.

What was the probability of my birth with the Pale Moon physique? One in a hundred million? One in a billion?

"Why are we so contradictory to this degree?" I whispered unconsciously.

Really, it was getting a little scary.

My little brother, Solon, the protagonist of the game, possessed one after all. A very powerful one too.

I mean, he was the protagonist, what did you expect?

He didn't possess three elements for no reason. It was because of his physique - the Shining Sun, which he was born with, and it really suited him.

Just like the Pale Moon, the Shining Sun was one of the most ancient and powerful physiques in the world.

In fact, there were five physiques that stood above all other physiques and surpassed them terribly. People treat these five physiques as myths and legends. Something that doesn't really exist except in fairy tales.

And the Shining Sun and the Pale Moon were among the strongest of them if I'm not mistaken.

I looked at the attributes below.

Both [Prince of Darkness] and [Eternal Winter] were related to [The Pale Moon] in one way or another.

Usually, attributes do not represent or reflect the elements of the awakened one, the awakened one will usually get an attribute that represents him and an element or maybe two as an awakened one only. This alone shows how wonderful and useful these physiques were.

Since [The Pale Moon] gives its owner the elements of darkness, frost, and water, the [Prince of Darkness] attribute reflected the darkness element of the physique's owner, vastly superior to other darkness element bearers

It was the same with the [Eternal Winter] attribute, which reflects the element of frost.

For whatever reason, there wasn't an attribute reflecting my water element, even if it was stronger than any water element.

'I guess the basic element will remain a basic element no matter what…'

Also for the elements, there were two types of classification for them.

The classification of the element itself, which is divided into: Basic, Advanced, and Supreme.

There were only four basic elements, which are: air, water, fire, and earth, while the advanced elements varied greatly and many of them branched out from the basic elements themselves, such as lightning, frost, and magma. As for the supreme elements, there were only two known elements, and they were light and darkness.

There were unique elements that were distinguished by their strangeness and abnormality from the natural, and I honestly didn't know much about them.

Besides that, there was a classification of the intensity of a person's affinity with the particular element, which was divided from one star to five stars. One star means that it is a low affinity and five stars means that it is the highest possible affinity with the element.
