Chapter 16: Beginners Village.(2/3)
As the carriages went inside the village slowly, Lexus sat with patience on the carriage and observed everything around.
The security on this village was better than in his own capital city, which felt like some kind of low-level town.
The carriages were mostly for the import and export of various kingdoms nearby.
As Lexus was looking curiously everywhere, he didn't feel bored; his carriage slowly proceeded forward, and soon it was his turn.
"What's inside the carriage? Oh! " A guard came and asked Lexus with a little rude tone, but seeing Lexus, he was not sure how to address this aristocratic-looking person.
"Well, I've picked up a corpse from the road, and there's a girl inside the carriage," Lexus simply told the truth.
"M...my lord?" The guard who came was actually hesitant to ask or say anything to Lexus.
"Alright, here, let me pass, alright?" Lexus winked at the guard and pulled out a pouch full of silver coins from his ring and shoved it in the guard's hand.
The guard getting the heavy pouch was shocked; his yearly salary won't be this heavy in a pouch, and this young noble just gave him this casually.
Lexus slowly entered the village; the village has a 4-meter wall around it. The atmosphere inside the village was bustling; his own capital was more villagey than this.
"I've to improve the fucking duchy and then rule the world with might and glory. Can't be mediocre in this life as well." Lexus murmured this, and then he suddenly noticed he was actually not beating the horses at all; they were moving towards a certain direction.
"Well, they know the place, I guess."
"Excuse me, Dragon Master, Can I come out now? " A girl's voice came to Lex's ear; he stopped the horses while tapping on them gently. The horses slowly stopped as if they understood what Lex wanted.
"Come out," Lexus said while jumping down from the carriage. The carriage was fun, but he has to discover this village with his own feet.
The light green-haired girl stepped down from the carriage; she looked determined and ready to face death.
" D...dragon Master, this is my village!! Ahem, I mean, I am the daughter of the village chief, so if you take me to the village center, my father will reward you." The light green-haired girl bowed deeply and said with an almost pleading tone.
"Oh? You're his daughter? Wait a moment, I am not a dragon." Lexus first was happy to complete the first quest without getting a quest, then he realized this girl was still hung up on him being a dragon.
"Well, yes, sir." The light green-haired girl easily accepted, as if heeding Lex's command.
Lexus frowned but didn't rebuke her; he just nodded his head and looked around because he was standing in a narrow alleyway and someone was watching them.
"Alright, Get back on the carriage," Lexus said while walking towards the carriage himself; he acted as if he didn't understand he was being followed.
The girl just nodded her head and went inside; the Lexus slowly moved out of the alleyway while walking because he doesn't trust that carriage under him that much. Being a professional hero on earth taught him many things, and this was one of them.
As he was about to exit the alleyway, which was eerily silent, a bolt landed just behind Lex's leg.
The bolt was precisely aimed at Lex's leg, but he simply dodged it because it was slow.
Lexus pretended that he didn't see that bolt and walked naturally while pulling horses with their reins and crossed the alleyway safely.
"Get out," Lexus said while stopping the cart at a distance from the alleyway. The girl came out and was standing still.
"Where's your home?" Lexus asked, then frowned because that feeling of being watched was bothering him.
If he were alone, he would tear that peeping fucker into pieces, but he can't go on a rampage when someone is already suspecting him to be a dragon.
"Well, it's near. That way is the Village Center, and Father should be that way too." The girl pointed towards a direction where Lexus saw many people were gathered.
"Alright, let's go. Send someone later to pick this up," Lexus said while patting on the horses gently, then walked behind the girl. Lexus then grabbed the hilt of his sword slowly and walked with caution.
He is new to the world; he doesn't have any information about how powerful this village is, although he was certain about this being the beginner's village, but being cautious doesn't cost you money.
They slowly crossed the field and entered the bustling Village Center. The attack he was expecting didn't come; the girl slowly walked towards a round building where a person wearing a cap was standing, and he was gesturing for people to do things.
"Papa!" The girl, after seeing the man, called out but didn't dare to run from Lexus; she turned to look at him as if asking for permission.
Lexus nodded his head while removing the hand from the hilt because that feeling of being watched was gone.
As soon as he took off the hand from the hilt, a crossbow bolt came in; it was fast, unlike the previous one. Lexus dodged easily by simply moving his head to the left.
*BOOM*
The crossbow bolt went past Lexus, and it destroyed the horse carriage he had just left behind.
The carriage flipped over three to four times, smashing horses with the old man's corpse, which was behind the carriage, and they became so disfigured that it was impossible to tell them apart.
Lexus didn't look back towards the carriage, but he did hear the mournful cry of those poor horses, which served him great last night.
Lexus didn't look back because he was looking at the person who just shot the bolt towards him with bare hands.
"You killed those poor creatures." Lexus gritted his teeth, and he felt his chest heating up with rage while looking at the bald man in front of him.
"You didn't have to dodge. Then, those poor creatures would have been alive."
