Reincarnated in a Light Novel

Chapter 7: New Missions

After the encounter with Tralgar nothing else notable happened, Eclair continued his training for the rest of the week.

Solas, who was training Eclair, could tell that he had natural talent. He learned fast, even with Torako on his side gaining all the injuries he could have he learned way too fast.

What Eclair did was train the equivalent of six months of training in normal time.

"it will take another week for the tournament. It's best you can go and tame your fear."

"How will I do that…?" Eclair asked curiously.

"Go kill some demons."

"..."

"I'll give you three missions, it's the newest the Association gave." Solas gave Eclair three papers.

Eclair received the papers and took a good look. Investigation of deaths related to demons, sightings of lesser class demons, investigation of disappearances.

He wouldn't complain though, after all, they're missions best for first years to take. Not much danger but enough if taken lightly.

Even if they had already gone on a trip to get acclimated against demons months ago, he was with a teacher then, now he was doing this alone.

"You should go now, you only have a week."

Eclair nodded, the tournament was getting closer and he had no time to dally around. He walked out of Solas' office and went to his dorm to prepare stuff before walking out of the Academy.

If he had to choose which mission to take first, it would be the sighting of the lesser-class demon. After all, it's the only mission that identified the demon.

Eclair stood at the entrance of the Academy, 'Should I rent a car? Nah.' he better save some money.

Eclair gathered Omi on his legs and he started running, the village where the demon was sighted was a few kilometres away.

But with the speed he is going, he could get there after a few hours. Remembering his past life made him appreciate his inhuman capabilities.

After a while, whilst ridden with sweat he slowed down after seeing the village from far away. He chose to conserve energy and started walking to the Village.

Eclair didn't expect some reception, much less a cold one. Once he was seen from far away, two people met him and both didn't look excited.

"Hello," Eclair spoke with a smile. "I'm here for the Lesser Class demon?"

One of the two people, an elderly woman with a cane openly glared at Eclair. "You're young."

"I guess I am," Eclair affirmed vaguely. "Though, since I'm here I'd like to know everything about the sighted demon."

The young man, who was beside the elderly woman, looked at each other before looking at Eclair. Eclair found the behavior suspicious but he kept his poker face.

"I see, come. It's rude to let a guest stand for too long." The Elderly woman walked away.

The young man helped and followed the elderly lady from behind, Eclair soon followed. Inside the village, Eclair could tell something was going on, it was gloomy and dark. As if all hope was lost, it was depressing!

The elderly woman soon reached a wooden house which she entered, Eclair couldn't articulate it but he felt something was amiss, it felt weird.

He followed inside and he noticed something from the living room, a large pot that was covered by a wooden cover.

"Young Sorcerer." The elderly woman called. "The sightings of the demon are dogs."

"Dogs… I see."

Demons are born out of miasma, it's something along the lines of negative emotions ranging from, rage, regret, obsession, taking will and manifesting by Omi.

There are things called Omi geniuses in the world, they're someone who uses Omi unintentionally. It's the same principle with demons, thanks to their negative emotions they unintentionally use Omi.

Demons are usually born by attaching themselves to a vessel or taking form to whatever it fashioned. The only good thing about Demons is that their Omi Art is usually innate and cannot be made like humans.

The demons that Eclair are hunting are dogs, he surmised that the lesser class demon manifested because there are dogs that died out of hunger, resentment or abuse.

Whilst buried in his thoughts Eclair didn't notice the gaze the young man was giving beside him.

"When was the time of the sighting?"

"since a week ago, in the woods. At first, it just watched from a distance but then started boldly attacking our livestock, our men had tried to defend us. However, that didn't stop the dogs and killed some of our men." The elderly woman explained.

"I see."

It seems that the demons manifested from hunger considering they started with the livestock, though Eclair couldn't see the whole picture yet he was already feeling something suspicious.

"Does it appear often? What time does it appear?"

"Mostly at night and every time it could."

Eclair nodded and walked out the door, "I'll try to solve it today. Thank you for answering my questions."

As he walked out the door, Eclair felt the stare of both. He didn't trust the two one bit.

First, Eclair had to check if the demons were dogs. He arrived a bit earlier than he should but it wouldn't hurt to scout the forest near the village.

As he did, he walked inside the forest, but as of now, he didn't prepare anything. That was quite a stupid thing to do.

Once Eclair walked inside the forest, deep enough not to see the village behind, two dogs came in and started lunging at Eclair.

As of now, He had deliberated about his Art, Eclair took all week to find a suitable way to use his Affinity and Output in making Art. Even having advice from Solas.

And today he will have a chance to showcase his Art.

"[The Mold]; First cast."

"sever!"

A gash appeared at the two hounds and they both split into two. Their momentum unstopped, and the bodies splattered on the ground. Eclair stared awkwardly at the gore, he didn't know the damage could be this much.

The Art Eclair made, The Mold, is very restriction-free. Though it's quite condition heavy. The only restriction The Mold has is that he can only use Techniques or objects as a basis for his cast.

His casts are where techniques get 'molded' to his liking. Adding conditions and restrictions as he liked to make it stronger.

Just now, the Technique he used as a basis for his cast is the magic bolt, a ball that shoots with kinetic energy. He thinned its shape to a small, long area he could 'sever' anything with it whilst still carrying the kinetic energy.

Eclair stared at the corpses of the dogs, decaying and emitting miasma. Eclair felt himself gag before looking away, he should call the nearest branch of the Association.

He had learned in class that whilst brimming with Miasma, corpses of demons are good for alchemical use as miasma could be cleansed as it's still essence itself.

"Should I buy a phone if I get enough money?"

Eclair heard a crowd of growls from a distance. He turned around to see a hound of dogs, it seemed he was not finished yet.
