Chapter 5: chapter 5:The Echo of the Storm

The atmosphere at the entrance of the village was solemn. The Uchiha gathered with varied expressions: some showed seriousness, others, younger ones, displayed excitement, and in some cases, fear. The murmur of conversations ceased when Fugaku appeared. His mere presence commanded respect, and his steady gaze made it clear that the moment was crucial.

"Form up!" he ordered in an authoritative voice, filled with leadership.

Immediately, we organized into rows of eight, totaling 64 ninjas aligned before him. Fugaku stepped forward, his upright posture and dignified bearing speaking of a leader aware of the weight of his responsibility.

"March!" he pronounced decisively.

We began our journey toward what would be our strategic camp. As we moved forward, the sunset painted the sky with reddish hues, a sight some observed calmly, perhaps aware that this might be the last sunset they would see for a long time. Fugaku led the group with a firm step, and after hours of marching, we finally arrived at the designated spot. Without wasting time, we all set up the tents under his supervision. An hour later, when everything was in order, Fugaku called for a general meeting.

Standing before us, his presence was imposing. He cleared his throat before speaking. His voice was firm, but there was a gravity in his tone that none of us could ignore.

"We are 64. We will divide into three groups," he announced calmly and precisely. "22 of you will form the ambush force. You will be our spearhead, a group made up of the most experienced in combat. Your task will be swift, precise, and lethal. We need the element of surprise on our side. For now, your mission will be brief tonight."

He paused, scanning our ranks with his gaze, and continued.

"Another 21 will remain here to protect the camp. This will be your responsibility: to keep our base safe and operational. This includes physical defense, yes, but also ensuring that the provisions are secure and the morale remains high. Without a strong camp, we are doomed."

Finally, his tone shifted slightly, taking on a more understanding tone.

"The remaining 22 will be the surveillance force. Most of you are the youngest among us. Your mission will be vital: ensure that our entrances and exits are secure. You will observe from the shadows, like invisible hunters, and alert the group to any imminent threats. Every enemy movement, every change in the environment, must be detected with precision."

Fugaku paused again, letting his words sink in. Then, his hardened expression softened slightly, and his voice became more emotional.

"Perhaps you think this conflict is just another war. That you are mere tools on a board, pieces moved by a village that does not understand your worth. But I tell you this: you are not. Each of you is more than that. You are the hope of your village, the strength of your families, the protectors of a tomorrow we do not yet know."

Fugaku extended an arm toward the group, pointing at us.

"Look around you! These are not strangers; they are brothers and sisters, friends! When the enemy stands before us, when chaos tries to overwhelm us, remember that you are not alone. We fight for those who cannot fight, for the smiles of children, for the teachings of our elders, for our honor and for the right to be who we are."

The atmosphere became solemn as his words resonated in our hearts.

"When the dawn comes and the war drums are heard, do not think of the conflict. Think of what we are protecting. For that will be our strength. Today, we are the light in the darkness! Today, we are the shield that will stop the storm! For the clan, for the village, and for our will of fire!"

The echo of his voice lingered in the air. A wave of determination spread through the Uchiha, who raised their fists and shouted in unison, ready for whatever fate had in store for us.

After the speech, Fugaku began assigning tasks. "The surveillance group will be made up of 22 members. You will be divided into one group of six and four teams of four. Each team will watch a sector of the camp: west, east, south, and southeast. The group of six will be in charge of the north."

My name was called in this last group, the one of six. Without question, we moved to our position. The northern wind was cold, but in our hearts burned a flame that not even the coldest of climates could extinguish.

As we jumped from tree to tree, the pace naturally began to slow. We only had to watch, but as we advanced, I decided to use my ability to detect vital energy. Focusing, I could sense a total of 25 energies. Of those, 21 belonged to chunin, 3 to genin, and one stood out with a much more powerful presence than the others, a chunin but with significant strength. At that moment, it was clear to me that this was the primary target.

Rei, sensing the tension, silently signaled us. Looking at Banji and me, he communicated the order through sign language: "Sensors, something's off." I responded with the same sign, indicating there were 25 energies, but without giving too much detail about my exact perception, to avoid revealing too much information. Banji nodded, confirming my response.

Rei then signaled to Sayuri with a hand movement. The instruction was clear: "Sayuri, you're the one who can hide her chakra best, get closer." Sayuri nodded seriously, and with slow and calculated movements, she began to move deeper into enemy territory. Every step she took was meticulously planned to avoid any sound that could betray her. She used the deep shadows of the trees and the murmur of the nearby river as perfect cover.

Meanwhile, Terzhi, through signals, informed us that he would begin setting traps, waiting for Sayuri's confirmation. I responded with a nod in sign language, suggesting that we would retreat once we finished the job.

Minutes later, Sayuri signaled us, indicating she had observed the blind spots of the camp. She reported that to the south of the base, Terzhi could do good work, while 23 meters to the west, the attack groups could ambush effectively. This was excellent news.

Terzhi began his task of setting traps, and after 8 minutes, he returned to confirm it was done. We all silently retreated and returned to the concentration camp. Once there, we reported our findings to Fugaku. The other groups also arrived and shared their findings about the weaknesses of the camp, which would allow for an effective attack.

Fugaku quickly gathered with the 22 from the attack group and asked us to rest. We knew the operation was near, and our work in surveillance and preparation had been key.

I woke up hoping that everything would be as easy as it had been until that moment. I thought to myself, "I hope no one dies tomorrow." However, the next day, upon waking, I realized something was missing. I looked at the members of the attack team and noticed the ones from the north were not present. A bad feeling washed over me, and the answer kept echoing in my mind: "The chunin, with good vital energy."

Fugaku approached me, his gaze serious and controlled, as always. "Go see why some died in the north. You'll only be able to sense their chakra. You'll go alone, but I trust you can survive," he said. I accepted the mission without hesitation. I'll do it, I thought to myself, before getting up and heading north.

I walked for a while until I finally found the bodies of my comrades. I knew they were also chunin level, but something didn't add up. I suppose they left the strong chunin injured, the one I sensed yesterday, I thought. As I focused on my vital energy detection ability, I pinpointed this chunin about 67 meters away, his vital energy starting to stir. I knew I had to finish what I started.

When I arrived, there he was, staring at me.

"So, another Uchiha," he said, a sneer on his face. "I'll kill you." He lunged at me quickly, but I had already anticipated it. I'll do it, I have to do it... I can't lose here, I thought, as his pain and thoughts intertwined with my determination.

At that moment, the chunin began to perform a jutsu. "Fūton: Fū no Supairarubõru," he said firmly, creating a ball of wind that moved rapidly toward me. I managed to dodge it with agility, letting the jutsu pass through several trees, tearing them apart.

Tired of constantly dodging attacks, I activated my Eternal Mangekyō and, in a cold tone, said, "Well, it's time to finish you off." With a precise gesture, I activated the ability of my right eye: Kannonbiraki Benihime Aratame.

The air grew dense as my power unfolded. I began to reconstruct his body, but not in the way anyone would expect. I did it in disordered fragments, placing what should be inside outward. His heart beat in his right hand, held by threads of nerves that twisted like snakes. His spine stood erect outside his back, like a twisted throne. I could hear his mind breaking before the horror of what I had done to his body. It was a grotesque amalgamation of flesh, a cursed puzzle, conscious and aware.

Finally, I took a step forward and extended my hand, making one final gesture. The reconstruction ceased to be careful and turned chaotic, until his body exploded in a cloud of blood and bone fragments, scattering a crimson rain on the ground beneath my feet. Everything fell silent, save for the distant echoes of his screams, reverberating in my mind as a reminder of my own power.

I returned to the concentration camp with my comrades' bodies, reporting to Fugaku what had happened. "They died in a draw," I told him solemnly. Fugaku, with his usual coldness, told me I could retire to my tent. I went to it and, without saying more, lay down. The mission was over, but the feeling of violence lingered in my mind.

I lay in bed, closed my eyes, and for a moment tried to think of something else. Questions swirled in my head, but for now, everything seemed fine. Though I knew that something still wasn't fully closed, and it's war.
