Chapter 413: Spies
At the mention of the many complicated processes of other guilds doing investigation and the intertwined connection, Zhao Kai's brain nearly overloaded.
Suddenly, Zhao Kai glanced at Xu Feng and questioned, "Wait a minute. If it's this complicated, then why did you even propose such a risky plan? It can't be for that petty sum of money, right?"
"Do I look that shallow to you?" Xu Feng scolded and gave him a good smack to his head.

The smack caused Zhao Kai to lose 5 damage in response, rendering him speechless.
'Seriously? That smack made me lose 5 health points?' Zhao Kai cried inwardly. The only good thing was the pain wasn't that much when compared to the smacking done by Zhao Xin.
Feeling quite wronged, Zhao Kai distanced himself from him and asked, "If you're not shallow then why did you let the world know you want to livestream. You're just bringing trouble to ourselves."
"I should really demote your rank." Xu Feng's face twitched.
Having a high rank due to connection was really not the way to go, considering their incompetence could easily ruin everything.
"Do you have any information regarding the other guilds?" Xu Feng returned the question to Zhao Kai.
And he didn't just stop there.
"How much power do their guilds have?"
"Are their strengths considered a threat to the Vanguard guild foundation?"
"Have they been planning on something huge against us?"
"What are their levels, equipment, and items?"
With the barrage of questions, each one leaving Zhao Kai baffled, he soon came to realize he couldn't even answer the first question. He was completely clueless.
Knowing that he was speechless, Xu Feng rolled his eyes.
"Instead of letting these guilds secretly send their spies to investigate us. I might as well make them pay an entry fee to come here and do whatever investigation they wanted to do. In the meantime, I can also use this time to investigate them while saving manpower and money to send spies to them." He calmly explained.
The current Vanguard guild looked mysterious and strong on the surface, but it was actually an empty shell in reality. Xu Feng could not afford to do the same as many other guilds, and laying low was an impossible task to do.
After all, he had publicly humiliated the branch Reaver Guild, and no, Xu Feng did not regret doing such an action.
Had he not done such an action, some other guilds might actually try to invade his monopolization of Star Falls City and its status as an Overlord.
Each action had its pros and cons, and in this particular case, the pros outweighed the cons by a large margin.
"I didn't expect there to be so much undercurrent ongoing…" Feeling ashamed, Zhao Kai lowered his head, unaware of the problems that Xu Feng had to deal with.
All he had to do was discreetly establish a stable foundation at Evershade City and nothing else. If there were resources he was lacking, then he would take some from the guild to assist him. In a sense, he was merely a layback worker without any pressure.
And to think he had the nerve to question why Xu Feng left an empty large plot of land alone. There must have been his reason and logic behind the decision.
As the atmosphere gradually shifted to tension and awkwardness with Zhao Kai being practically hammered down, Xu Feng decided to stop his harsh lecturing.
After all, he couldn't be blamed for not knowing all these complicated matters unless he had personally experienced them like his sister had when she took on the CEO position of the Zhao Enterprise.
"Anyway, this large plot of land is meant to be our Guild Residence, but I lacked the necessary funds to get the best upgrades. Thus, it was delayed until now." Xu Feng explained.
"A Guild Residence?"
Alarmed, Zhao Kai then subsequently realized there was indeed no guild residence despite everyone knowing the Vanguard guild was based here.
"This is still considered a secret, but for now, your task is to accommodate the players who came here with proof of winning the slots. As the host and overlord of this city, we cannot neglect our accommodation." Xu Feng patted Zhao Kai's shoulder lightly.
"You mean yoinking more of their money by introducing them around and investigating their motive and strength in the meantime?" Having been informed of so many things at once, Zhao Kai naturally realized Xu Feng's meaning could not be so simple.
"Clever, but next time, keep it to yourself." Xu Feng nodded in agreement.
"Never voice them aloud if you understand my intention. Also, study under your sister more seriously. I don't want to spell the picture out for you every time. It's exhausting and honestly, very annoying and a waste of time."
"U-Understood." Zhao Kai quickly saluted and excused himself to get busy with the task.
Although Xu Feng hadn't officially kicked him away, Zhao Kai was positive that he was busy with some other tasks. Otherwise, he wouldn't have said it was a waste of time educating him.
Rather than getting kicked away embarrassingly, it was better to excuse himself.
If he were to be wrong in the deduction, then Xu Feng would have stopped him, but that didn't happen. This meant that his deduction was correct and he managed to save some dignity for once.
Gazing at his vanishing back, Xu Feng began to miss Carmen.
'Ugh, if it had been her, then she would have done the job flawlessly. Now I had to leave the task to Kai, but I doubt it would be effective either.' He thought to himself.
What Zhao Kai didn't know was that Xu Feng sent him out as a decoy— or to be more precise, he was the scapegoat for the other guilds to believe that he was the investigator.
Not once did Xu Feng expect him to actually investigate and find out useful intel. He was simply too green in this matter, and it wouldn't be a surprising event if he were to receive fake intel.
'Good thing I still have Tracy and these players are still ignorant of the ability of NPCs.' Xu Feng whistled and hummed gleefully as he made his way toward the Adventure Association to meet up with Jessica.
