After the Final Selection ended, Mori took three days to return to the Butterfly Mansion. During that time, he spent long hours contemplating which world he should travel to with his newly acquired Temporary World Travel Ticket. Even though it would only be temporary, the opportunity to grow stronger in another world was something he could not overlook. He needed to make the right choice, one that would benefit him in the long run.
As he approached the Butterfly Mansion, he could see his sisters, Kanae and Shinobu, waiting for him. They were standing outside, waving at him excitedly. The moment he got close enough, Shinobu ran forward and threw herself at him, burying her face into his chest.
"Big bro, did you pass?" she asked eagerly, her eyes gleaming with excitement.
Mori hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to explain that he had practically wiped out every demon during the exam. He decided it was best to keep things simple and avoid unnecessary explanations.
"Of course, I passed! Who do you think I am?" he said with a goofy grin, scratching the back of his head. A drop of sweat ran down his forehead as he forced a confident expression.
Kanae, ever the protective older sister, narrowed her eyes at him. She immediately noticed the slight nervousness in his voice. Without warning, she grabbed his ear and pulled him closer, her usually gentle smile still present, though there was an undeniable shadow looming behind her.
"Mori, are you sure?" she asked sweetly, but her tone held an unspoken warning.
Mori felt a chill run down his spine. His sister's overwhelming presence made him break out in a cold sweat. He quickly nodded, trying to maintain his composure.
"Sis, I am perfectly fine, and I passed with flying colors! If you don't believe me, you can contact the examiners yourself," he said hurriedly. His eyes darted nervously as he added, "You know, your smile is really something! You're so beautiful and caring, and I think you're too nice to do anything to me… right?"
Kanae stared at him for a few more seconds before finally releasing his ear. She sighed and crossed her arms, still giving him a skeptical look.
"You better be telling the truth, brat. If I hear that anything bad happened during the exam, you better hope that pulling an ear is the least of your worries," she warned, before suddenly slapping the back of his head.
"Now go inside and shower. You smell horrible," she added with a soft yet commanding tone.
Shinobu leaned in closer and sniffed the air, her face scrunching up in disgust as she pinched her nose.
"Brother, I think she's right," she said, sounding utterly defeated.
Mori's entire body deflated as he dragged his feet toward the mansion, his face filled with despair.
"Not Shinobu too…" he muttered weakly in a quiet, raspy voice, as if he had just suffered the greatest betrayal of his life.
After taking a long shower, he joined his sisters for dinner. The warmth of the meal and the familiar atmosphere made him feel at home. However, as they ate, Kanae suddenly spoke up, breaking the comfortable silence.
"Mori, tomorrow we're going to see Master Ubuyashiki again," she said, setting down her chopsticks. "Apparently, they are holding a Hashira meeting, and I'm being promoted during the gathering. The master wants you to attend as well, so make sure to be on your best behavior."
She reached over and tugged his cheek with a soft smile.
"Don't embarrass me, alright? They'll be my colleagues from now on," she added playfully.
Shinobu's eyes lit up with excitement upon hearing the news. She immediately grabbed Kanae's arm and started shaking her wildly.
"Sister, are you really being promoted already?" she exclaimed, practically bouncing in her seat.
Kanae smiled and nodded, patting Shinobu's head gently.
"That's right. Your older sister is going to be one of the Pillars of the Demon Slayer Corps tomorrow," she said proudly. "Sadly, you won't be able to attend since you're not a Hashira or an official member of the organization yet."
Shinobu pouted slightly but nodded in understanding.
After finishing their meal, they all went to bed, ending the day peacefully.
The following morning, Mori and Kanae set off toward the Demon Slayer headquarters. As soon as they arrived, two Kakushi greeted them at the entrance and guided them inside. Upon entering the meeting hall, they were met with a gathering of several individuals, each exuding a powerful presence.
Mori's eyes scanned the group, recognizing a few familiar faces.
"Gyomei, Rengoku, Sanemi, Obanai, Tengen, Giyu… Looks like Muichiro and Mitsuri aren't part of the Corps yet," he thought to himself.
He spotted Sanemi among the group and, without missing a beat, stuck his tongue out at him in a childish manner. The scarred man's eyes twitched in irritation as he sent Mori a death glare.
The first to speak was Gyomei, his deep voice resonating throughout the room.
"Kanae, it is wonderful to see you grow into a Hashira so soon," he said, tears streaming down his face.
Rengoku, always filled with boundless energy, spoke next.
"Congratulations on becoming a Hashira! Together, we will work hard to rid the world of demons!" he declared with a bright and enthusiastic smile.
Obanai and Sanemi remained silent, while Tengen struck a dramatic pose.
"Ha! Congratulations, Kanae! Let us slay demons flamboyantly together!" he said with his usual flair, flashing his signature grin.
Giyu simply gave a small nod of acknowledgment.
Kanae smiled warmly, thanking them for their kind words. However, before the conversation could continue, the sound of footsteps echoed through the courtyard as Kagaya Ubuyashiki entered the room. He walked gracefully onto the tatami mat, his daughters by his side.
Immediately, all of the Demon Slayers knelt down on one knee and greeted him in unison.
"We greet the master!" they said respectfully.
Mori, however, simply sat down on the floor and yawned, stretching as he leaned back on his arms. His eyes gazed up at the sky through his green eye mask.
The atmosphere in the room immediately grew tense as the Hashira turned their glares toward him. Kanae sighed in defeat, already used to her brother's antics.
Kagaya, however, simply chuckled and waved his hand dismissively. Although he was blind, he could still perceive the presence of those around him, and he already knew that the one sitting so casually had to be Mori.
"I am glad everyone is here for the Hashira meeting," Kagaya began, his soft voice carrying through the hall. "I am happy to say that we have not lost a single Hashira in this generation, and I hope we can continue to strive toward that goal. Let us begin."
The meeting proceeded with each Hashira reporting demon sightings and exchanging information with the master. They spoke with deep respect, sharing their findings and concerns.
Once the reports were concluded, Kagaya turned to Kanae.
"Congratulations, Kanae. As of today, you are officially the Flower Hashira" he announced with a gentle smile.
Kanae bowed her head in gratitude. However, Kagaya then shifted his attention to the young boy sitting nonchalantly on the floor.
"Mori, you have just completed your Final Selection, correct?" he asked. "How would you like to become a Hashira as well?"
The entire room fell silent. Every Hashira, except for Sanemi, widened their eyes in shock. The words took a few moments to sink in, and when they did, they all turned toward Mori with disbelief.
Mori raised an eyebrow, pointing at himself with an amused expression.
"Me? A Hashira? But I don't even use a Breathing Style," he said, furthering their confusion.
Rengoku and Tengen were the first to react.
"Master, with all due respect, I do not believe a child should be a Hashira, let alone possess the strength of one!" Rengoku stated firmly.
Tengen nodded in agreement and pointed at Mori.
"This kid? I could lift him with one hand! Master, I respect you greatly, but I cannot help but feel that something is off here!"
The others nodded in agreement, while Kanae simply raised an eyebrow. Sanemi scoffed, flicking his head to the side.
Kagaya remained calm as he turned to Sanemi.
"Sanemi, please recount what happened three years ago," he said softly.
Sanemi clicked his tongue in annoyance but obeyed. He began explaining what had transpired when Mori first arrived at the Butterfly Mansion.
As he spoke, the expressions of the other Hashira gradually shifted from confusion to astonishment. Even Giyu, who was normally composed, found himself unable to hide his surprise.
At first, they thought it had to be some kind of joke. But then they remembered—it was Sanemi who told the story, and Sanemi didn't know how to joke.
"Again Mori, how would you like to become a Hashira? of course having an 8 year old as a Hashira is unheard of and the fact that you have no merit is another thing, however I think the hundreds of Demon's you've killed outside of the Corps is enough to make up for that." Kagaya Ubuyashiki said with a soft smile
