Chapter 3: Big Changes
Deep within the ancient forest, a certain lull has arrived. The fauna sways gently within the calm breeze and the kestodons are resting. However this peace was not meant to last for from within the underbrush an anjanath appears. It can be seen it is a juvenile anjanath for it only stands at about 10 meters(a/n: yes meters, the monsters are pretty damn big), half of what a grown anjanath can meet. the fur on its body has begun to grow and the bone crest on its nose is firmer. The anjanath in question is Evans, who is on the hunt for lunch. Evans rushes one of the kestodons, a male judging by the large crest dome it is sporting, and slams it to the ground. After knocking out one of the 4 males, he turns to the rest of the herd and puffs out the fins along his back.
AUGHGRAAAAAH! GRAAAH!
Hearing the roar escaping his mouth, some of the females within the herd turn to flee, prioritizing their lives over their loved ones. The males, though shaken, stand ready to fight in order to save one of their own. They charge in at different angles, trying to confuse the large beast that approached. Unfortunately, one swift tail sweep knocks them all to the ground, effectively immobilizing them. Evans, seeing this leaps towards them, crushing one unfortunate kestodon under his feet and ripping the throat of another, ensuring neither can trouble him anymore. The last male, although dazed, makes an attempt to headbutt on Evans while he rips the other two apart. The kestodon manages to make it close enough to hit Evans' leg, but unfortunately...
KLANG! BAM!
As if hitting iron, the kestodon stumbles and is rewarded with i fierce smack on the head, courtesy of Evans' tail. "HA! idiot. now that that's done, to the victor go the spoils!" After mocking the now unconscious male, Evans devours one of the corpses he created and dragged the other to his mother back at the nest.
Over the past 5 years, Evans has grown to stand on his own two feet, meaning that he now goes on solo hunts and brings back some of his trophies for his mother, as any filial son would do. "Still cant believe that its been almost 6 years since i got here. Shame i wont be going back anytime soon."
As Evans nears his home he spots his mom and immediately tells something is wrong, he has never seen her so worried before, as if something bad was going to happen. "What's wrong mom?" although he knows she cant understand the words he's saying since they are still from his past life, his gestures and light hum manage to convey his message. With her attention grabbed, she started imitating what seemed to be flapping wings and shooting a bit of fire. Evans, seeing this knew that a rathalos was nearby and eyeing their nest, but he is unable to do much at the moment for his flame sac is still underdeveloped and his jumping power is not that great.
Feeling helpless, he mumbled "I just might have to start doing more to help out. I cant lean on mom forever. " After reassuring his mom, Evans sets out back to the old training ground. from here he has been using the passing years to not only further improve his force output, but also practicing in getting at least a small spark to appear from his throat.
"C'MON! WORK ALREADY!" Frustrated from his lack of results, Evans tears out a large oak with his now powerful jaws and slamming his tail on the forest floor, cracking the earth and startling smaller creatures into hiding.
RAAAAAAHHHHH!
Suddenly, an all too familiar monster cry rings out, startling him and forming a sense of dread for the juvenile anjanath. "Shit! why is it here!?" As if the world was set to spite him now, a rathalos swoops down, attempting to tear out Evans' throat."Gotta do something! and FAST!" Barley anytime to think, Evans puffs out his nose bone ridge and tucks his head, praying that the bone on his face keeps him alive. Due to his actions, the rathalos misses its original target but is still able to land a hit.
CRRAACCK! "ARRRGH!"
A excruciating pain shoots up Evans nose as the bone ridge that saved his life is broken into two jagged parts. He falls to the floor as a pool of blood forms around his head. The rathalos, eager to try again, dives towards Evans ready to end his life
"So..this is..how i die huh?"
AUGHGRAAAAAH! GRAAAH!
As Evans saw his life(lives?) flash before his eyes, he hears the roar f his mother, and not long after, sees her jump at the rathalos, ripping its tail of its rear while getting hit by the claws of her now tailless foe
The rathalos, now in excruciating pain and unable to grab its seemingly easy meal, flees to recuperate.
The same unfortunately, could not be said for Evans' mom, for in her old age she was not agile enough to dodge the lethal attack. And just like that, Infront of Evans' own eyes, she fell, never to rise again.
