Chapter 4: Injuries and Vengeance
"MOM! mom get up! Don't leave Me!" ignoring the burning feeling in his face, Evans scrambles to get up and rushes over to his mother, nudging and shaking her corpse, hoping to get some sort of reaction. unfortunately, with a gaping hole in her neck and unfocused eyes, Evans knew she was truly gone.
With red eyes, Evans stares at the rapidly retreating rathalos in the distance and roars "BASTARD! you better run, ill make sure I end you when I'm stronger!" Although the injured king of the skies couldn't understand what was said, due to being too far and having no understanding of human language, it still felt a shiver go down its spine from the murderous intent Evans was creating, as if the grim reaper has just signed its death warrant.
Now having calmed down from his rage, Evans brought his attention back to the corpse. Using his jaws, regardless of his injury, he began to gouge out the dirt, digging until he had a hole large enough to place his mother in. after doing so, he covered it up, smashed a nearby boulder with his tail, and built a small mountain at one end of the dirt mound. "May you rest well. I swear to you that i will get retribution...and thank you for your care."
Evans, now having completed his small mournings, headed to the grassy plains. Once there, he dunked his head into a nearby lake, not only washing his wounds so they don't get infected, but catching a few sushi fish to eat. "Stupid Rathalos, why'd he have to grab my nose ridge like that? now its going to take weeks before-" Mid grumbling, Evans suddenly felt an itch on the broken nose ridge. To his surprise, he saw that the once broken bone was now mending itself at an astonishing rate. "Huh? why is it repairing so fast?"
Confused, Evans tried to think of anything he did that would cause his injuries to heal quicker. "I ate some aptonoths, but usually that's just to regain energy. Then there was a Jagaras wandering by, an injured Shepard hare i chanced upon, and the sushi fish from the- Oh that's right! sushi fish scales in the game could be used as healing items!"
Curiosity sated, Evans made it back to his nest and went to sleep, emotionally exhausted through the rollercoaster of events he has experienced today. When he awoke, it was the afternoon of the next day. His nose ridge ow healed, Evans began to focus on his revenge plan. "To kill that smug red chicken, not only would i need to reach adult hood but also sharpen my skills. and what better way than to do both than hunt other wyverns?"
Evans new hunt plan would not only give him the combat experience he needs, but eating his defeated foes' flesh will let him absorb more bioenergy, the very same energy that fuels the power of beings like Zorah Magdaros. "Speaking of, this elder dragon did appear near the ancient forest at one point didn't he? I could probably take the fragment that falls as he passes to possibly make me stronger!" Goals now set, Evans got up from his nest and began to track down his next target: a kulu-ya-Ku.
As Evans roamed around the forest, scaring of any smaller creatures in his way, he thinks to himself 'This opponent of mine is something i really shouldn't underestimate, if the side quest about it was anything to go by, even if that one was an outlier among the species' He shuddered, remembering how merciless that one was just because of some dumb shiny rock.
Crunch.
"Hm?" hearing the strange brittle sound under his foot, he removed it reveal he stepped on an egg shell, a possible remnant of the kulu-ya-Ku's lunch. Disgusted, Evans scrapped his foot across the floor to get the shell bits off. Afterwards, Evans locates a pile of feathers that lead to the swamp area of the forest.
Following the trail, Evans makes his way past the murky swamp, with omenflies flashing red at his Prescence. "Finally found it." once through, Evans sees something in the distance and knows he reached his query.
The creature in the distance somewhat resembles both a raptor and a chicken, with reddish orange plum feathers on its head and a sharp yellow beak that is reflecting the sun's light. in its hands is an open egg, with the bird wyvern's head immersed in it, unaware of the danger fast approaching.
Evans, aware of the creatures tendency to flee, slowly lumbers towards the kulu-ya-Ku, ensuring to not only get into attacking distance, but blocking off its only exit. Unfortunately, due to his somewhat massive frame, the feathered fiend becomes aware of his Prescence, quickly lifting its head towards his direction.
Without warning, the kulu-ya-Ku throws the egg at Evans. Stunned, Evans had no time to dodge and is now blinded by the yolk. 'Augh, what the hell! since when do these birdbrains THROW their lunch at enemies!?' As Evans shakes his head to get the yolk off of his eyes, the bird wyvern, in a burst of speed, kicks Evans under his chin, causing him to stagger back. Now enraged and finally able to see his opponent, Evans, though in a disadvantageous position, turns and swings his tail at the bird wyvern. Unprepared, the kulu- ya-ku is launched into multiple trees, embedding itself into an elder tree's trunk.
Evans charges towards the tree to headbutt the bird wyvern that egged him, but the kulu-ya-Ku manages to pry itself out of the tree and doge at the last second, leaving in Evans to tear a tree into two. 'Glad i actually paid attention to mom's lessons otherwise this would've been worse!' Both combatants turn to face each other and each let out their battle cries, attempting to unnerve the other and break their resolve.
