Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Choosing a Dog House
[Ding! The special plot is complete! The new member of the Nohara family, Shiro, is ready!]
"Is there any reward for completing the special plot?" At first, Asuka Shimizu didn't care much about rewards, but this time, she had played an important role in keeping Shiro...
Don't click on the reward, or you'll feel like ants are crawling all over your body.
I am a good person.
The system remained silent for a moment before finally releasing the task reward:
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for completing the special plot. The reward is 200,000 yen and a portable cart (the cart will be given in a more reasonable way)!]
200,000 yen! A cart!
Asuka Shimizu's beautiful eyes widened slightly as she suddenly felt something appear in the black technology pocket of her maid skirt.
She reached in—money! A stack of banknotes!
Having never possessed such a large sum before, Asuka abandoned her usual calm demeanor. She nervously checked the 200,000 yen in her pocket over and over, so much so that she couldn't even enjoy dinner properly!
What should I use this money for?
Asuka Shimizu was deep in thought…
At that moment, the conversation between Hiroshi Nohara and Shinchan at the dining table caught her attention.
Shinchan: "Dad, does Shiro get to sleep in the bedroom with us?"
Hiroshi Nohara shook his head in horror: "No way! Shiro is going to live in the yard. Tomorrow, we can go to the mall to find a suitable dog house. Eh? Shiro? Is that the name you gave the puppy?"
Shinchan: "You're so dumb, Dad! Look at the puppy—it's all white, so of course, it should be called Shiro!"
Hiroshi: "Alright, alright. Shiro… Nohara Shiro. That's a pretty good name."
At this time, Mitsy also added, "I don't know how expensive dog houses are in malls these days. Ugh, another expense this month."
The speaker may not have meant much by it, but the listener took it seriously. Asuka Shimizu silently kept Mitsy's words in mind.
The Next Day—Sunday
Hiroshi Nohara was planning to take Shinchan to the mall to buy a dog house when Asuka Shimizu volunteered to go with them.
Hiroshi and Shinchan naturally both raised their hands in agreement.
The three took the train to a department store in Nagoya, intent on finding a home for Shiro.
Led by the shopping guide, they arrived at the pet supplies section, where they found a variety of dog houses.
The selection was overwhelming. There were double-layer houses, luxurious two-story villas, and an array of styles to choose from.
"Dad! Shiro will definitely love this house!" Shinchan pointed excitedly at a two-story villa-style dog house.
Hiroshi Nohara took a look and was immediately awed by the beautiful miniature house: "Wow, this dog house is really nice."
Then, instinctively, his eyes drifted to the price tag…
133,000 yen!
With only 30,000 yen in monthly pocket money, Hiroshi Nohara touched his empty pocket, his expression instantly deflating.
"Umm... Shinchan, I think Shiro might not like such a complicated house. Plus, this house doesn't match the style of our home," Hiroshi tried his best to persuade Shinchan to give up on the dog house that cost over four months of his pocket money.
Shinchan thought for a moment and nodded. "Dad, you're right. We still have a 32-year mortgage—we don't deserve such a fancy dog house."
Phew!
Hiroshi Nohara felt as though another arrow had pierced his heart, leaving him reeling.
"What do you think of this dog house?" Asuka Shimizu, who had remained silent, suddenly pointed at a different dog house.
"Eh? This one?"
Hiroshi and Shinchan walked over. The house Asuka chose was moderately sized—perfect for a small dog like Shiro. Its red-and-blue color scheme wouldn't look out of place next to their home.
Most importantly, this dog house came with a feeding trough and a water dish. There were also two small hooks on the outer wall for hanging Shiro's favorite toys.
"This one is really nice!" Hiroshi Nohara was tempted. "But the price…"
55,000 yen!
Though it was significantly cheaper than the previous one, Hiroshi still couldn't afford it.
At this moment, the shopping guide approached and introduced the product. "This young lady has a great eye! This dog house is one of our store's best-sellers. It's reasonably priced and very practical. Just look at the quality of the wood and paint—it's worth every yen!"
The saleswoman wasn't exaggerating. The craftsmanship and materials were indeed worth the 55,000 yen price tag.
Hiroshi Nohara was tempted but…
He still didn't have enough money.
Feeling embarrassed, he rubbed his hands together awkwardly, avoiding the saleswoman's gaze. Leaning close to Shinchan, he whispered:
"Shinchan, why don't we head over to the wood section, buy some planks, grab a can of paint, and build a dog house ourselves…?"
It wasn't that Hiroshi was stingy—he simply didn't have enough money. He could barely afford this house with two months' worth of pocket money.
"Miss, could you please arrange to have this dog house delivered to my home?" Asuka Shimizu, ignoring Hiroshi's predicament, stepped forward to finalize the purchase.
"Of course, miss. Our store offers home delivery." The shopping guide beamed, eager to seal the deal.
Hiroshi Nohara, however, was flustered upon hearing that Asuka planned to buy the dog house.
He wanted to say something, but before he could, he saw her take out a stack of 10,000 yen bills from her pocket… and suddenly, the words caught in his throat.
"T-That's… so much money!"
Hiroshi's face was a picture of shock. He stared at the cash in Asuka's hands, struggling to process what he was seeing.
"Here's 60,000 yen. Besides the dog house, could you recommend a better dog leash and some toys with the remaining amount?"
"Of course!" The salesperson wouldn't miss an opportunity like this. "I see you're shopping for a new puppy. How about some nutritious dog food? It's excellent for a growing pup."
"No need. I can make my own dog food."
"I see! Shiro is lucky to have such a caring owner!" The shopping guide said politely.
But Asuka Shimizu remained silent. After all, Shiro's real owner wasn't her.
