Chapter 39: Chapter 39: The Dignity of the Head of the Family
With the help of the tour guide, Asuka Shimizu selected several toys suitable for small dogs and a few high-quality dog leashes.
After finishing, Asuka called Hiroshi Nohara over, who looked hesitant, and asked him to fill in his home address.
"Asuka, I still feel like it's not right for you to spend your money on a dog house..." Hiroshi's hand trembled slightly as he held the pen. He had no idea how things had escalated to this point.
Asuka Shimizu looked at Hiroshi Nohara without any expression, her tone calm but firm: "Brother Hiroshi, I was planning to prepare lunch boxes for you every day..."
"I'll sign it right now!"
Faced with the temptation of delicious food, Hiroshi Nohara surrendered without hesitation.
What a joke! Just look at Shinchan's face every day—his lunch boxes made by Asuka are clearly divine! Store-bought food might be tasty, but it was nothing compared to Asuka's cooking!
Moreover, if he had her lunch boxes every day, he could save a considerable amount of pocket money each month.
After two or three months, he could finally buy himself that new golf club he had been eyeing!
With renewed enthusiasm, Hiroshi Nohara quickly signed his home address on the form. Then, without hesitation, he picked up Shiro's toys and dog leash with a satisfied grin.
"Alright, that's settled. Shall we go back?"
Asuka Shimizu nodded. "It's time to go back. I haven't made dog food for Shiro today."
"Shiro's dog food?" Shinchan, who had been following closely behind, perked up. "Can I eat with him?"
Hiroshi Nohara's face twisted in frustration. (╬ ̄皿 ̄) =○!!!
"Idiot! That's dog food for Shiro! How can people eat dog food?!"
But Shinchan remained stubborn. He rolled his eyes at his father and scoffed, "Oh, that's just because Dad doesn't know how amazing Sister Asuka's cooking is! Even dog food made by her must be delicious!"
For a moment, Hiroshi Nohara was left speechless by his own son.
He hesitated for a while before turning to Asuka, hoping she would back him up.
However, Asuka had no interest in getting involved in their father-son squabble. She quietly quickened her pace, increasing the distance between them...
About twenty minutes later, the group arrived home.
Mitsy Nohara greeted them with a worried look. "Shiro doesn't seem to have much of an appetite. I borrowed some dog food from the neighbors, but he barely touched it."
Hearing this, Asuka Shimizu walked over to Shiro.
Shiro, who had been lying listlessly on the floor, immediately perked up when he saw Asuka approaching. His tail wagged so fast it was practically a blur—completely different from his earlier lethargic state.
Mitsy Nohara was momentarily speechless but eventually chuckled. "It looks like Shiro really likes Asuka."
"Sister Mitsy, I'll go prepare fresh dog food for Shiro first," Asuka said, gently patting the dog's head as she took the food bowl away.
She handed the food box to Mitsy and explained, "It's not that Shiro is picky; the dog food is damp. He might feel unwell if he eats it."
"Ah?!" Mitsy Nohara hurriedly pinched a few pieces of dog food between her fingers. Sure enough, it felt slightly moist.
"Oh no! I was careless!"
Seeing Mitsy's guilty expression, Asuka reassured her with a gentle smile. "It's okay, Sister Mitsy. You've never raised a dog before, so it's understandable. But from now on, I'll prepare Shiro's food myself. Homemade dog food is likely better for his growth than store-bought ones."
"Asuka, you can make dog food too?" Mitsy Nohara asked in surprise.
"I know a little. It's not difficult. If you want to learn, I can teach you."
"Then I'll learn from you!" Mitsy said eagerly. She wasn't just curious about how dog food was made—she didn't want Asuka to take on the responsibility alone. It would be too much work.
Asuka didn't mind. Today alone, she had bought Shiro a dog house, several toys, and a few leashes—spending nearly 70,000 yen in total.
Even after this expense, she still had about 150,000 yen left. Not bad at all.
"By the way, Asuka, while you were out, a café near the department store sent over a huge number of desserts. They even delivered them on a small cart... They said the desserts and the cart were all gifts for you. Did something happen?"
Asuka hadn't expected the system's "portable cart" to be delivered in such a reasonable way.
Lowering her head slightly, she hesitated for a moment before responding in a low voice, "It was from the time Sister Mitsy took me to that big auction. I wasn't used to crowded places, so I waited for you at a café nearby. But when I got there, I found out the chef had a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital. The café was packed with customers..."
"So you stepped in as the head chef and helped them out?" Mitsy Nohara looked amazed.
"Yeah." Asuka Shimizu didn't see a reason to hide it and simply admitted, "The desserts I made helped them get through the rush. Maybe the customers liked them, which prevented the café from receiving complaints." (In Japan, customer complaints can have serious consequences.)
Mitsy was genuinely impressed. She gave Asuka a big thumbs-up.
Not only was she an amazing cook, but she could also make exquisite desserts. Even some professional chefs might not match Asuka's skills.
Meanwhile, Asuka quickly got to work making fresh dog food for Shiro.
Mitsy Nohara stayed by her side, carefully noting down each step—how to prepare and process ingredients, when to add certain components, and the right cooking temperatures.
Finally, she let out a deep breath and set down her notebook. "So that's how dog food is made. It doesn't seem too complicated."
Asuka didn't respond but instead carried the prepared food to Shiro and set it down. "Sorry for the wait. Eat up."
"Woof!"
Shiro, who had been starving, rubbed against Asuka's shoes affectionately before diving into his meal, gobbling it up eagerly.
"It looks like even little dogs can't resist Asuka's cooking skills," Mitsy joked.
Asuka smiled modestly. "You're too kind."
Then, her gaze drifted to the cart full of desserts in the corner of the house...
"That..."
