Chapter 101: The Selfishness of Humanity and the Advancing Tiger

Amidst the towering skyscrapers of New York, Natasha had just commandeered a small aircraft and was engaged in a high-speed chase with Loki. To halt the space portal from continuing to transport the Chitauri army to Earth, the Mind Scepter in Loki's possession had to be used to destroy the portal's core.

As the chase unfolded, Hawkeye, perched on a high-rise, fired an arrow at Loki, which Loki caught barehanded.

Loki smirked smugly, seemingly mocking Hawkeye. However, the arrow suddenly exploded, blasting Loki off the aircraft. By sheer coincidence, he landed right beside Chu Yang.

Chu Yang bent down and picked up the Mind Scepter.

"Take your hands off that, you wretched mortal!" Loki snarled, his face twisted with rage. He vividly remembered this very teenager who had foiled his meticulously laid plans!

"Frigga has been missing you. When you go back this time, be sure to apologize to her, you rebellious adolescent," Chu Yang said with a derisive laugh, mercilessly mocking Loki.

Being lectured by an actual teenager, Loki's face turned visibly red with fury.

"Shut up! I forbid you from using that filthy mouth to utter her name!" Loki roared in anger.

But Chu Yang ignored him.

Abruptly, Chu Yang spun around and grabbed at the air behind him.

Loki's voice was abruptly cut off, vanishing like a bubble.

An illusion!

The real Loki was now firmly in Chu Yang's grasp, his neck clutched tightly, his face turning ashen.

"How did you figure it out?" Loki asked, panic-stricken and struggling desperately.

"You've studied magic under Frigga for so many years, and this is all you've learned? I'm disappointed, Loki. I thought we could have a proper magical duel," Chu Yang said, shaking his head in disappointment. Seeing Loki gradually losing consciousness from lack of oxygen, Chu Yang hesitated but ultimately did not kill him.

Frigga had treated him kindly, and killing Loki would undoubtedly cause her immense sorrow.

As for the people injured due to Loki's actions, Chu Yang had already dispatched shadow clones to provide aid. As long as someone had a breath left, his immense life energy could save them.

Chu Yang casually tossed Loki to the ground and turned to head toward the space portal.

Gasping for air, Loki crawled back from the brink of death. Staring at Chu Yang's retreating back, his eyes burned with hatred. Drawing a dagger from his waist, he crept toward Chu Yang from behind.

Chu Yang's lips curled slightly. "He's all yours."

Loki froze in confusion. Who was Chu Yang talking to?

Just as Loki was pondering, a massive green arm suddenly grabbed his ankle and dragged him away. Intense crashing sounds echoed from the room.

By this time, Chu Yang had reached the portal's location, where Dr. Erik Selvig lay nearby, barely conscious, his apologetic eyes showing that he had regained his senses.

Standing before the portal device, Chu Yang stabbed the Mind Scepter into it. Unlike Natasha, who struggled, he easily broke through the defensive field.

The energy beam connecting the two spaces rapidly contracted, and the wormhole in the sky swiftly closed.

Hawkeye looked up at the sky and spoke into his earpiece, "Looks like the war is over, folks."

Moments later, with a massive helicarrier hovering above New York City, S.H.I.E.L.D. began post-battle cleanup operations.

Hearing reports from the NYPD and emergency center heads, Nick Fury looked at his assistant Hill in astonishment.

"No casualties?"

"How can there be no casualties in such a massive battle? Are those fools incapable of lying?" Fury asked incredulously.

Hill hesitated. "Sir, I think they might be telling the truth…"

"What do you mean?" Fury frowned deeply.

"You should see this," Hill said, showing Fury a laptop playing a short video.

The footage showed Chu Yang, draped in a tailed beast cloak, healing the wounded. The process was simple—he merely placed his hands on someone, and their injuries visibly healed within moments. In the next scene, a civilian covered in blood leapt up as if nothing had happened.

"Oh my God," Fury muttered. Even with all his experience, he couldn't hide his shock.

"So, the report of zero civilian deaths might actually be accurate," Hill said, swallowing hard as she watched Chu Yang on the screen. She vaguely recalled having fought this person before.

Oh, heavens, it's a miracle I'm still alive!

Taking a deep breath, Fury asked, "I see. What about the Tesseract and the Mind Scepter?"

Hill responded, "The Mind Scepter has been secured by our agents. As for the Tesseract… Thor insists on taking it and Loki back to Asgard. I think we should stop him."

Fury countered, "On what grounds would you detain an ally who just helped us defeat the enemy?"

Hill argued, "But Loki caused such chaos and destruction. Are we just going to let him go?"

Fury gave her a serious look. "As long as there are no casualties, everything else is secondary. Besides, we desperately need Asgard as an ally. You've seen today's events—a terrifying alien army. We couldn't possibly handle that alone."

Reluctantly, Hill nodded. "Understood."

Deep down, Fury was just as frustrated. Of course, he wanted to keep the Tesseract. Who wouldn't? The problem was, how could they oppose Asgard?

Even Thor alone was troublesome enough. Adding Odin and the other gods? Earth could be obliterated several times over.

Forcing himself to abandon such dangerous thoughts, Fury glanced at the casualty reports again and smiled with relief.

The battle was over. Thor took the Tesseract and Loki back to Asgard.

Since Chu Yang could use the Flying Thunder God Technique to travel between Earth and Asgard, he wasn't concerned about the Tesseract's ownership. He even thought Asgard's magical technology might facilitate better research.

Moreover, in terms of research potential, the Mind Scepter surpassed the Tesseract. The Scepter's Mind Stone had not only activated the abilities of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch but also created Vision, a hero of near-bug-level power.

Letting Hydra have the Scepter for now wasn't a big deal—Chu Yang could retrieve it anytime. For now, attempting to study both Infinity Stones simultaneously would only cause unnecessary complications.

Relying on Hydra's scientists? Now that was efficient time management.

The Battle of New York had left severe damage around Stark Tower, prompting Tony Stark, the "generous playboy," to take full responsibility for reconstruction costs. His actions garnered widespread public admiration, further solidifying Iron Man's reputation.

However, the media's spotlight was on the Avengers as a whole. This war made the Avengers household names globally—even in outer space, thanks to Thor's renown.

Among them, Chu Yang couldn't avoid the public's attention. He had saved too many lives.

If not for Tony and Fury keeping his identity strictly confidential, Stark Tower would have been mobbed daily by grateful civilians.

Tony wanted to protect Chu Yang's private life. Fury, on the other hand, feared Chu Yang's growing influence.

Ever since discovering Chu Yang's capabilities, Fury had felt a strange sense of unease. A person capable of instantly creating a terrifying army naturally warranted monitoring and control.

Still, out of respect for Tony and Thor, Fury refrained from going too far. Two weeks after the battle, he invited Chu Yang to S.H.I.E.L.D.

S.H.I.E.L.D. was undergoing massive expansion. The Battle of New York had underscored its importance, especially to frightened elites and billionaires.

Captain America had become the agency's leader, tasked with training new recruits, with Natasha and Hawkeye assisting him.

As Chu Yang and Tony walked through the main hall, they spotted the team gathering.

Tony called out teasingly, "Steve, back to your old job, huh?"

Steve shrugged.

Natasha, upon seeing Chu Yang, whispered something to Steve before walking over with an apologetic expression.

"Hey, Yang, about what happened before…"

"Thanks to you, I had quite an interesting trip."

"Really?"

"Of course. In a way, I should thank you."

Seeing Chu Yang genuinely unbothered, Natasha sighed with relief. Lately, she had been stuck between Fury and Tony's arguments, feeling like a scapegoat.

Steve suddenly approached Chu Yang, extending his hand. "Thank you for your assistance that day and for saving so many lives. Fury told me there were virtually no casualties in this war."

"That's nothing short of a miracle."

Just as Chu Yang was about to downplay his role, Tony interjected sarcastically, "And now, this miracle-working teenager is being summoned here for questioning!"

Steve sighed helplessly. "Tony, watch your words. It's not questioning; it's a discussion. Besides, we need to understand Yang's abilities—it benefits everyone."

Tony wanted to argue further, but Chu Yang stopped him, reassuring, "It's fine, Tony. I understand Fury's concerns, and it's not Steve's fault. Don't take it out on him."

Reluctantly, Tony dropped the matter but warned firmly, "Fine. But if Yang disappears for no reason, I won't let this slide—mark my words!"

Steve promised, "Relax. How about this—I'll personally accompany him. We'll be back in 15 minutes."

Tony nodded slightly, whispering to Chu Yang, "I'll wait here. Let me know if anything happens."

Tony had secretly planted a communicator in Chu Yang's clothes before they set out.

Chu Yang agreed and followed Steve into the elevator, which brought them to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top floor—Fury's office.

Hill greeted them at the elevator but hesitated upon seeing Steve.

"Captain, I'm afraid you'll need to wait here," Hill said awkwardly.

"Why?" Steve frowned.

"There's another senior official inside—Alexander Pierce from the World Security Council. The discussion will be confidential," Hill explained.

Sensing something amiss, Steve was about to protest when Chu Yang intervened.

Walking toward the office, Chu Yang glanced back with a smile. "I'll see you soon."

"I'll be here. Shout if anything happens," Steve replied encouragingly.

The door closed behind Chu Yang as Hill led him further inside.

Behind the door lay a narrow corridor ending in another elevator.

As they entered, Chu Yang noted that the elevator had no floor buttons and descended directly.

"You seem to have a lot of friends. Even the Captain cares about you," Hill remarked with a smile.

"Probably because I saved those civilians," Chu Yang replied, eyes closed, silently calculating the elevator's descent speed to estimate the floor.

Ding!

The elevator door opened, and the two walked out. Chu Yang looked around. The surroundings were made of alloyed steel, very quiet, with low visibility and a slightly eerie atmosphere reminiscent of an interrogation room.

Chu Yang frowned slightly.

"Uh, don't misunderstand. This really is Director Fury's office. He just likes this oppressive style. I tried to persuade him during the renovations, but it was useless. In some aspects, he's incredibly stubborn," Hill quickly explained when she noticed Chu Yang's expression.
