Chapter 670: 669: The Reason
I made a mistake in the previous chapter and also in Corey's status screen about his level. His level is not 202 or 256, it's in the 400s.
-------
Corey observed his Cosmic Soul after it successfully refined the soul energy of Orpheus.
He saw that the cracks on the egg-like shell increased, and when he saw no other change, he shifted his attention away from his Cosmic Soul.
Increasing his level from 402 to 456 might seem like a massive improvement, and it actually was. However, one should not forget that Orpheus was a Tier 5, which meant that he had absorbed the soul energy of a Tier 5 as a newly ascended Tier 3.
The difference between Tier 3 and Tier 4 was massive, and the difference between Tier 3 and Tier 5 was indescribable.
To better understand how massive the difference was, one just had to understand the levels that each Tier comprised of.
To advance to Tier 1, a Tier 0 had to reach level 100.
To advance to Tier 2, a Tier 1 had to reach level 200.
To advance to Tier 3, a Tier 2 had to reach level 400.
To advance to Tier 4, a Tier 3 had to reach level 800.
To advance to Tier 5, a Tier 4 had to reach level 1600.
And to advance to Tier 6, a Tier 5 had to reach level 3200.
Because of how high and absurd the leveling system could become, when one advanced to Tier 4, the levels could switch from the actual level to using a percentile system.
What this means is that instead of a Tier 4 seeing Level 1600, the Tier 4 could see Level {100%}. However, one can switch between both systems with ease.
The absurd number of levels in each Tier was another reason why the difference between Mystic Beings and Astral Beings was so high, and this is another reason why Corey as a Tier 2, killing Tier 4s and even Tier 5s was extremely absurd and unbelievable.
The difference was just way too high.
Advancing to higher Tiers was extremely difficult for the average individual and even for some people, however, for Corey, it was just a matter of killing some Tier 4s as a Tier 2, and now killing some Tier 5s as a Tier 3.
If an average newly advanced Tier 3 absorbed the soul stone of a Tier 5, he or she would gain an increase of at least 200 levels.
However, Corey got barely half of a hundred.
Most would see this as a problem and a disadvantage but Corey knew why the number of levels he got from Orpheus' soul stone was so little.
Due to the peculiarities of his Cosmic Soul, whatever soul stone he absorbed was refined by his Cosmic Soul, and only then would it be absorbed.
He was losing out on quantity, but gaining in quality.
The actions and uniqueness of his Cosmic Soul also made him to question how safe it was to absorb the soul stones of countless other people.
Was there a side effect to absorbing the soul energy of countless living beings?
Was it safe?
Was it harming them in anyway?
Corey had so many questions and thoughts on soul stones and the Universal System's ability to transfer the soul energy of countless living beings into an individual.
Or was it completely safe but it was a natural thing for his Cosmic Soul to increase the quality of the soul energy that entered him?
Although Corey had this questions, he knew he could do nothing about them because he was still too weak and his knowledge was still lacking.
The only thing he could do was believe in his Cosmic Soul and allow it to do whatever it wanted to do.
After absorbing the soul stone of Orpheus, he looked around and then he activated Breath of Omniscience and inhaled deeply.
His clothes fluttered, and in the blink of an eye, a pure white mist flowed into his nose and mouth from the destroyed building and rubbles around him.
Corey absorbed every single trace of him in a radius of one mile.
Although he told Savage that he didn't care about his backers, Corey knew that he had to be careful and doing this to prevent any powerhouse from figuring out that he was present in Savage's home and that he was most likely the cause of Savage's death.
He had several plans he had to accomplish, and he had no desire to become enemies with an unknown and most likely powerful force.
After absorbing every single trace of his presence, Corey took another look around, and then he vanished by teleporting away.
Some seconds later, he reappeared in his room in the Headquarters of Neon, and then he sat on the chair in his room.
"If not for the restrictions they placed on the void, I would have been able to teleport here without having to go through so many teleportations."
Corey sighed, and then he shook his head with a slightly disappointed expression.
"I was expecting a much better fight from Savage, but the fight was completely disappointing. It was like he was intimidated by me. I could sense the fear he was giving off."
{That's because he was actually intimidated by you.}
Corey raised his brows in surprise when he heard Nina's voice, and he could not help but ask.
'What do you mean?'
{Your title and presence as a Walker of Dreams and Nightmares. That's the main reason he was afraid of you and why he felt weak to you.}
'I don't understand. My title? The titles have a use?'
{Of course they have a use. They are not just there for decorations. However, it's only when you want to advance to Tier 7 that you'll be able to see the true use of Titles.}
Corey furrowed his brows in thought, and Nina continued speaking.
{Although your titles have not been fully activated, they also affect the world around you and your presence.}
{As a Walker of Dreams and Nightmares, your very presence has a... predatory effect or should I call it a suppressive effect on Nightmares and Dreams.}
{He was just a Nightmarespawn. He was not even a true Nightmare, merely a poorly made attempt to create a Nightmare.}
{Because of this, your presence as a Walker of Dreams and Nightmares suppressed his body and most especially his mind to a massive degree.}
{His transformation made it worse because he was closer to becoming a Nightmare, albeit a weak one. If he remained in his humanoid form and if he had fought stronger opponents in the past, you would have had a much more difficult fight.}
