Starting from Prototype to Immortality

Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Hard to Find

Chapter 25: Hard to Find

The nuclear missiles were launched.

Among the hundred nuclear missiles, most were hydrogen bombs, but due to time constraints, some were replaced with regular nuclear bombs.

"Thermonuclear fusion weapons..."

Chang Wei was more wary of hydrogen bombs—more powerful and environmentally friendly thermonuclear weapons. While he had a nuclear fission state that allowed him to treat ordinary nuclear bombs as food, their destructive power was negligible compared to his recovery speed and energy reserves.

Hundreds of nuclear missiles struck Chang Wei's Great Black Sky, the viral black light layer that covered him.

The small nuclear devices inside the hydrogen bombs detonated first, reaching the temperature required for fusion, which triggered the hydrogen bombs to explode.

The light and heat generated in an instant easily tore apart Chang Wei's Great Black Sky. The terrifying shockwave shattered the clouds.

Chang Wei immediately entered his nuclear fission state. His Blacklight virus cells awakened from dormancy, absorbing the immense light, heat, and radiation. His body began to swell on the surface.

The infinitely expanding Blacklight virus was continually dissolved and annihilated by the hydrogen bombs. However, some parts survived, which Chang Wei recovered and evolved further.

Humans observed the bright light of the hydrogen bombs for a moment, followed by the movement at the site of impact.

Then they saw it—the shredded and destroyed black curtain!

"Fantastic!"

The human leadership celebrated together, congratulating themselves on their apparent victory against the alien threat.

"Wait!"

But as the live broadcast of the scene continued to be transmitted back, the snow-filled static screen revealed the black curtain regenerating!

And this time, the speed of regeneration was even more astonishing!

Previously, the regeneration rate was about one square meter per second, slowly increasing. Now, it was a hundred square meters per second, with a near-linear upward trend in growth!

"What's going on?"

Everyone was baffled.

Chang Wei had absorbed an unimaginable amount of energy, which he unleashed to exponentially increase the spread of Great Black Sky!

"It's absorbing nuclear energy?"

Speculation arose among the scientific community, though they lacked concrete evidence due to the absence of collected samples or clear observations.

The alien entity clearly anticipated humanity's reliance on their most powerful weapons.

"At this rate, in less than ten days, it will cover the entire world, completely blocking electromagnetic signals, telecommunications, and sunlight!"

"We can't sit idly by! If nuclear weapons don't work, what about fuel-air bombs or similar weapons?"

"Our ground forces have been disrupted, and the air force is barely operational. The navy has already been annihilated. We lack the strength to carry out large-scale operations."

On the ground, infected creatures consumed everything edible and turned inedible objects into more of their own. Buildings became nests, while airborne nests filled with gas emerged, producing Pterosaur-like creatures.

Massive balloon-like nests floated in the sky, and due to Chang Wei's new modifications to Great Black Sky, it too could now produce Pterosaurs.

"Is humanity doomed?"

World leaders despaired. The unexpected attack by infected creatures had left ground forces decimated, making it nearly impossible to mount any meaningful resistance.

As for forming a united global military force, that was now a pipe dream. With infected creatures dominating the skies and the ground, any small force would be wiped out instantly.

Chang Wei gave humanity no time to ponder or decide. At his command, countless nests worldwide produced millions of infected creatures in an instant, overwhelming all land and digging three meters deep to locate hidden underground spaces.

He even created a Hydra—a massive drill-like construct spinning at hundreds of thousands of revolutions per second. Unlike human drilling equipment that required periodic replacement, the Hydra evolved automatically, becoming increasingly wear-resistant and heat-resistant.

Chang Wei intended to drill 10,000 meters deep to flush out the wretched Jason!

He would turn the entire world upside down, including the oceans, convinced he would find Jason eventually.

This relentless search lasted an entire month.

Chang Wei was dumbfounded. What was going on? Humanity had been reduced to a few scattered survivors, and most biological life had perished. The world had grown eerily quiet and cold. Without sunlight, plants had frozen to death, and the ground was covered in ice.

Where could Jason be hiding? Wait, why would that guy hide from me?

Shouldn't he be ecstatic to rush at me and devour me? Isn't that the instinct between Prototypes?

Chang Wei pondered, speculating that Jason might have hidden deep in the ocean. But how long would it take to find him there?

Moreover, not a single Blacklight virus unit had been destroyed. Otherwise, he would have instantly known Jason's location.
