Starting from Prototype to Immortality

Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Flight!

Chapter 6: Flight!

Chang Wei ventured deep into the infected zone. The area he previously found had already been cleared by Blackwatch operatives.

It took him a long time to locate a second infected zone.

The Blackwatch soldiers had intensified their patrols, making it impossible to spread infection by capturing a few infected creatures and releasing them outside the zones.

Chang Wei had tried this method, but Blackwatch soldiers quickly arrived to eliminate the infected, preventing any new infected zones from forming.

Fortunately, even though Alex Mercer lacked Elizabeth Greene's ability to spread the infection and create hives in the early stages, the Blacklight Virus he carried still caused sporadic outbreaks.

The Blacklight Virus' transmission methods and resilience were unmatched by ordinary viruses.

Chang Wei consumed many infected creatures he encountered, devouring them as he came across them. He desperately needed genetic points. While doing so, he discovered traces of Hunters.

Immediately, Chang Wei decided to test his Lightning Speed Form on one of the Hunters.

"Ten thousand volts of electricity!"

Under his control, crackling arcs of electricity coursed across his body, piercing the air and striking the Hunter before him.

The high-voltage current caused the Hunter to stiffen and convulse. The electric arc discharge generated intense heat, causing nearby air to explode. The heat effect of the current further heated the struck object, and within seconds, the target was either scorched or fried to death, much like deep-frying chicken.

Electric arcs could instantly melt copper bars, reaching temperatures of thousands of degrees Celsius.

If not for the unique properties of the Blacklight Virus, Chang Wei wouldn't have been capable of emitting such high-voltage electricity. This kind of power was beyond what any biological organism could withstand.

The Hunter was paralyzed for a while, its body beginning to show signs of charring. Satisfied, Chang Wei ceased his electrical attack.

"Good. With this, any enemy that comes close will be caught off guard by my power."

Chang Wei was very pleased. Just 10,000 volts of high-voltage electricity had such devastating effects. The Hunter couldn't resist, and even after Chang Wei stopped discharging, it remained motionless, smoke rising from its body.

When Chang Wei moved to devour it, he discovered that the Hunter was already recovering. The virus was terrifying, creating creatures that completely defied natural laws.

While Chang Wei wandered for several days, Alex Mercer had also begun his search for Elizabeth Greene.

During his investigation, Alex Mercer found his girlfriend, Karen Parker. Since Karen Parker was the original Alex Mercer's girlfriend, she immediately sensed something off about this version of Alex.

However, Alex claimed to have amnesia, leaving Karen Parker skeptical.

In the original plot, she would betray Mercer after probing him and realizing he was not the original Alex Mercer but something else entirely. Her betrayal was inevitable.

Of course, this isn't an attempt to justify Karen Parker's actions. Since the story here follows Mercer's perspective, it's easy to empathize with the feeling of betrayal by his girlfriend.

With Karen Parker's insider knowledge and the help of his sister, Dana, Mercer finally tracked down information about Elizabeth Greene.

During these days, Chang Wei observed the locations of military bases while continuing his hunting.

With nothing better to do, Chang Wei achieved his third evolution—Flight Form!

This was a form that neither the protagonist of the first game nor the second game managed to develop in the original story. Recently, Chang Wei had been studying aerodynamics, flight structures, and related concepts. He also captured bats and other flying creatures to expand the potential of his genes.

Eventually, Chang Wei evolved a pair of enormous bat wings that he was very satisfied with. The wings generated powerful gusts when flapped, creating quite a commotion.

But they worked—Chang Wei could fly. He realized all his previous studies were unnecessary; the Blacklight Virus was inherently unscientific.

Each wing stretched over two meters when unfolded, allowing Chang Wei to fly continuously for over an hour before needing to replenish energy. His flying speed was decent, reaching up to 200 kilometers per hour—roughly 55 meters per second.

With his superhuman physique, Chang Wei could perform various aerial maneuvers and sharp turns without much difficulty. The forces exerted during these movements were well within his tolerable range, so he wouldn't end up splattered like a pancake from a sudden halt or turn.

"So this is what flying feels like?"

Chang Wei leaped into the air and took flight without needing a running start or jumping from a high point to catch an updraft.

He ascended higher and higher, finally landing on the rooftop of a tall skyscraper.

"Technically, I could swing around like Spider-Man, but flying feels way cooler!"

After just a few hours of flight, Chang Wei was already in love with the activity and sensation. From his aerial vantage point, he felt like a god looking down upon the earth.
