Chapter 5: Lightning, Electric Shock, Electric Form
Mercer didn't hesitate when it came to the Hunter. By the time Chang Wei turned back, he saw that Mercer had already absorbed the Hunter.
A single Hunter wasn't too difficult for Mercer to handle.
"Hello, my name is Alex Mercer," he introduced himself.
When he noticed Chang Wei approaching, Mercer asked, "And you are?"
"Chang Wei," he replied.
The strange pronunciation caught Mercer off guard for a moment.
"If you want to uncover the truth, go find Elizabeth Greene," Chang Wei said.
Although Chang Wei's English proficiency had been mediocre at best, after absorbing so many infected, he had picked up the language. Communicating with Mercer was no longer an issue.
"What?" Mercer's eyes widened. Chang Wei seemed to know a lot about his situation.
"I can only tell you this: Blackwatch, Elizabeth Greene. Find her, and you'll understand everything."
After careful consideration, Chang Wei decided to accelerate Elizabeth Greene's expansion of the infection zones. Naturally, it was better to let others do the dirty work, and Mercer was the perfect candidate.
As for whether Mercer would feel deceived later, Chang Wei figured he could always explain that he didn't know Mercer had lost his memory and was searching for it. He was merely sharing the truth about the virus and its origins.
"Wait," Mercer said. He had memorized the name Elizabeth Greene but wanted to continue conversing with this "kindred spirit." However, Chang Wei ignored him, leaping away with a powerful jump.
Mercer could only watch helplessly, unable to pursue since he hadn't yet unlocked his super-strength. Left with no other choice, he decided to return to his sister, hoping she could help locate Elizabeth Greene.
His instincts told him that the towering figure of Chang Wei hadn't lied.
Once out of Mercer's sight, Chang Wei reverted to his normal human form.
"Next, I need to collect a large number of gene points to enhance myself and evolve into the electric form."
Chang Wei noticed that the infected zones weren't expanding; instead, they were shrinking. This was due to Blackwatch and Mercer's actions. In the early stages, Mercer had eliminated too many Hunters, leaving the Blacklight Virus at a disadvantage against Blackwatch.
Otherwise, a single Hunter—capable of destroying main battle tanks, agile, and resistant to most small-caliber firearms—would have been a nightmare to deal with in an urban environment. Let alone the fact that Hunters usually operated in packs.
Chang Wei didn't care if the infection zones disappeared due to his relentless hunting. The early infection zones weren't particularly important. Once Elizabeth emerged, infection zones would no longer be an issue.
After hunting down a large number of infected, Chang Wei found a secluded spot to undergo his second mutation and evolution.
"Evolving an electric organ based on the electric eel's genes... The electric organ shaped by the Blacklight Virus has to be far superior to an electric eel's, right?"
Chang Wei was thrilled. Although high voltage meant low current, as long as he could kill or paralyze Hunters and Supreme Hunters, it would suffice.
Under Chang Wei's guidance, the super-virus system began the second mutation and evolution.
The electric eel genes he had absorbed fused with the Blacklight Virus. Soon, Chang Wei felt an itch spreading across his entire body. Sparks of electricity appeared on his skin, crackling as they ionized the air with a sinister sound.
The arcs of electricity were visible to the naked eye, a testament to their immense power—high-voltage electricity.
"Ahhh!"
Chang Wei was the first to experience the intense electric shocks coursing through his body, making him tremble uncontrollably.
Sensing that continued electrical output might burn him to a crisp due to the heat generated, the Blacklight Virus promptly evolved protective measures for Chang Wei.
Once the evolution was complete, Chang Wei's appearance returned to that of a normal human, though electric organs were now integrated throughout his body.
"This is incredible..."
Electric arcs danced between Chang Wei's fingertips, crackling loudly. Even with just one finger, the voltage exceeded tens of thousands of volts. He estimated that if he went all out, the voltage could reach millions or even billions of volts. However, he didn't intend to push it to such extremes. High voltage inherently meant a significant reduction in current.
"Also, this consumes a lot of stamina. Only the unreasonable Blacklight Virus can sustain my electricity generation. An electric eel can only generate electricity for a short period, but I can maintain it for nearly an hour before needing to replenish my stamina."
With the system's assistance, Chang Wei was acutely aware of his body's changes.
Under normal conditions, he could sustain electricity generation for about an hour. However, if he unleashed his full power for high-voltage output across his entire body, his stamina would deplete within seconds.
This electric form could also be used in conjunction with his Four-Armed Overlord Form, effectively stacking abilities.
"I need to catch a Hunter to test its effectiveness in combat," Chang Wei mused.
If the output of tens of thousands of volts could significantly impact a Hunter, he wouldn't have to worry about the current being insufficient.
