Chapter 4: Chapter 04 Look at All Them Chickens

I woke up the next morning with a headache, a summoning contract, and the vague memory of making several poor life choices.

I groaned, rubbing my face. My room was still a war zone from last night—scrolls scattered, kunai embedded in the walls, and a fine layer of dust from where Raikou had obliterated my desk just by existing.

Right. Cleanup could wait.

More importantly, I had actual things to do.

For one, I needed to figure out what having a summon actually meant. Did I need to feed him? Could I summon him for dumb things, like grabbing snacks from the top shelf?

Only one way to find out.

I made the hand signs, focused my chakra, and slammed my palm to the ground.

"Summoning Jutsu!"

POOF!

A massive gust of wind erupted in my room—again.

I braced myself, half-expecting Raikou to come back screaming about how early it was—

Instead, I got… a baby eagle.

A tiny, fluffy, fist-sized eagle chick sat in front of me.

It blinked.

I blinked.

We both just… stared at each other.

Then, in a soft, squeaky voice, the chick chirped:

"…Hewwo?"

…Oh no.

I stared at the tiny, feathered puffball in front of me.

It stared back with huge, round eyes.

A single, awkward beat of silence passed.

Then, very calmly, I pointed at the eagle chick. "You are not Raikou."

The chick tilted its tiny head. "Nope."

"…Then who are you?"

The chick wiggled excitedly, looking absurdly proud of itself.

"I'm Taka!" he chirped. "Raikou-sama's little brother!"

I squinted. "Raikou has a little brother?"

"Mhm!" Taka chirped happily. "I'm still in training, so I'm what you'd call a 'low-level summon'!"

I stared at the tiny, fragile-looking bird sitting in the middle of my wrecked room. A low-level summon. This chick looked like it couldn't even lift a peanut, let alone help in battle.

"…Taka."

"Yeah?"

"Be honest with me. What exactly… do you do?"

Taka tilted his head, thinking very hard. Then, with full confidence, he puffed out his tiny chest and chirped:

"Umm… I can try my best!"

I stared at him.

Taka stared back.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Okay, so let me get this straight—you're my summon."

"Mhm!"

"But you can't fight?"

Taka wiggled. "I'm still growing!"

"…Or carry messages?"

"Umm… maybe a teeny-tiny one?"

"…Or fly long distances?"

Taka flapped his tiny wings enthusiastically. "I can fly for about thirty seconds before I get sleepy!"

Oh, great. That's totally useful.

I sighed, rubbing my temples. "Taka, be honest. Is there any situation where summoning you would actually help me?"

Taka blinked. Then, in the most innocent voice imaginable, he chirped—

"Morale Support!"

…Fantastic. I didn't get a battle companion. I got a therapy bird.

Okay. Okay. No need to panic. I could still salvage this.

"So, uh… can I unsummon you?" I asked.

Taka fluffed up his feathers. "Nope! You gotta wait until I decide to go back on my own. That's how it works!"

I stared at the chick. Then at my already-ruined room. Then back at the chick.

"Right. Of course. That makes perfect sense."

Taka just chirped cheerfully, hopping onto my knee. "You'll get used to me!"

…Yeah. That's what I was afraid of.

I flopped back onto my bed, staring at the ceiling.

"So just to clarify," I muttered, "I cannot send you back?"

Taka shook his tiny head. "Nope! I leave when I feel like it!"

I sighed. "And when do you feel like it?"

Taka blinked, thinking very hard. Then, in the most deadpan tone imaginable, he said—

"When I get sleepy."

…Oh no.

I sat up instantly. "Wait, wait—how long does that take?"

Taka flapped his tiny wings. "Dunno! Let's find out!"

I felt a migraine forming.

Okay. New problem. I had a baby eagle that refused to leave until he got tired. That meant I had two options:

Tire him out as fast as possible so he disappears.

Accidentally bond with him forever and have a lifelong emotional attachment.

Option 1. Definitely Option 1.

I pulled out a kunai and twirled it. "Hey, wanna watch me do the same trick fifty times in a row?"

Taka gasped. "WOW."

I threw it. It hit the wall.

I threw it again. It hit the wall.

I threw it again—

Taka flapped his wings excitedly. "AGAIN! AGAIN!"

…That backfired spectacularly.

If I couldn't tire the bird out, I could bribe him.

I pulled out my Instant Ramen – Ichiraku Special from my system inventory. The second I did, Taka locked on like a predator.

"IS THAT FOOD?!"

"…No."

"IT'S FOOD!"

And then the little gremlin dove for it.

I yelped, barely yanking it away in time. "Hey! This is mine!"

Taka stared at me. Then, in the tiniest, most pitiful voice, he whispered—

"I have never tasted ramen before."

I squinted. "…That sounds like a you problem."

Taka sniffled. "I bet it's warm… and delicious… and life-changing…"

I refused to be manipulated. I refused to—

Five Minutes Later…

Taka slurped down a tiny noodle from the bowl I totally didn't share.

"…This is the best day of my life," he whispered.

I sighed, rubbing my temples.

I just got a pet, didn't I?

Taka let out a happy chirp, curling up on my knee. He looked way too comfortable.

"Are you sleepy yet?" I asked hopefully.

Taka blinked at me. Then, after an agonizing pause, he chirped—

"Nope! I'm wide awake and ready for adventure!"

I groaned, flopping back onto my bed. Of course he was.

Taka flapped his tiny wings. "Sooo… what do you usually do for fun?"

I thought about it. What could I do to tire him out?

Then it hit me.

I smirked. "Alright, Taka. You wanna train? I have the perfect idea."

Taka's eyes sparkled. "Yeah?!"

I nodded. "It's called—"

Pause for dramatic effect.

"Meditation."

Five Minutes Later…

Taka was asleep.

I grinned in victory.

I had outplayed the bird.

I leaned back against my bed, staring at the tiny, sleeping menace on my pillow.

Taka was out cold, making soft little chirping noises in his sleep. His wings twitched occasionally, like he was dreaming about something exciting—probably stealing Hokage-sama's hat.

Out of all the summons in the world… I got a snack-stealing, hyperactive therapy bird. And it's still here. Why is it still here? Shouldn't it have disappeared by now?

I sighed. "Finally."

And that's when it hit me.

I forgot to log in today.

I sat up so fast I almost threw Taka off my bed.

"System," I whispered urgently. "Login. Now."

A familiar blue screen flickered to life in front of me.

[Daily Login Reward Available! Tap to Claim.]

I exhaled in relief. "Almost missed it."

A small pop-up appeared.

[Daily Login Reward: Low-Grade Chakra Enhancement Pill]

I frowned. "…Wait. That's actually decent."

I tapped on the item to pull up its description.

[Low-Grade Chakra Enhancement Pill]

Effect: Permanently increases chakra reserves by a small amount.

Warning: May taste like despair.

I nodded to myself. Yeah, that tracks.

Still, a permanent boost to my chakra? That was actually amazing. If I could stack these over time… this system might be even more busted than I thought.

I tossed the pill into my inventory out of habit—then paused.

Wait. Why am I saving this?

It was still noon, and I had time to train. The sooner I took it, the sooner I'd see the effects.

Sighing, I pulled the pill back out and inspected it again.

[Low-Grade Chakra Enhancement Pill]Effect: Permanently increases chakra reserves by a small amount.Warning: May taste like despair.

I popped it into my mouth.

Instant regret.

The taste was an unholy mix of burnt rubber, expired medicine, and betrayal.

I gagged. "Oh, that is disgusting."

Taka, still half-asleep, cracked one eye open. "Tastes bad?"

"Horrible."

"Nice." He promptly went back to sleep.

I shook my head, forcing the aftertaste away. No point in complaining. If this system was going to make me suffer for power, so be it.

I exhaled sharply. No way I was wasting any more time. I had a system to grind.

Pushing myself up, I stretched, rolled my shoulders, and grabbed my gear.

"Alright," I muttered. "Time to train."

The midday sun shone overhead as I stepped outside, ready to make up for lost time.
