Chapter 13: The Trial’s End…
Jiho's team quickly encountered two shadow beasts that had been separated from their pack. As always, the remaining three members, including Lira Venn, surrounded the two creatures in a circular formation, trying to block them off and prevent their escape.
"Jiho… you need to get in there and attack. Among us, you're the fastest. As planned, kill one and weaken the other. We'll handle any that try to escape," Lira Venn said as they worked to trap the shadow beasts.
Jiho hesitated for a moment but said nothing. With a single nod, he stepped into the circle. The two shadow beasts, sensing a target, immediately charged toward Jiho and leaped at him.
However, Jiho was unable to dodge as easily as before, since he was unable to enhance his speed and strength with Dark Energy like in the earlier stages. Although he managed to narrowly dodge one shadow beast with a quick sidestep, the other managed to land a blow, ripping his clothing near the shoulder and leaving a deep claw mark behind.
Upon seeing this, Lira Venn's expression darkened. The remaining three members were also in disbelief. They had all witnessed Jiho's speed earlier, so they hadn't expected him to get injured so easily.
"You all need to help me... I can't handle both of them alone. The skill that enhances my strength and speed needs more time before I can use it again," Jiho said, pressing his hand against the wound on his shoulder as he looked at Lira Venn.
"Huh… So you have a skill like that…" Lira Venn replied, surprised. "Fine. I'll back you up. The rest of you, maintain the formation. Don't let it collapse..."
With that, Lira Venn entered the center of the circle. Each of them now took responsibility for one of the shadow beasts, reducing the pressure on Jiho.
Jiho fixed his gaze on the shadow beast before him, waiting for its next move. Though the beasts were fast, their attack patterns were predictable. If he could land a decisive blow, it would be easier to finish it off.
Suddenly, Jiho also saw Lira Venn, who was relentlessly attacking the shadow beast, from the corner of his eye. That guy was not only superior to him in speed but also in strength. Even though the shadow beast tried to retreat, it was completely unable to escape, as it was trapped by an attack from someone who was ready.
The moment Jiho lost his concentration, the shadow beast that was facing him seemed to have been waiting for that moment and lunged at him with its claws, aiming for an attack.
Jiho quickly dodged and counterattacked. However, his strike only managed to graze the beast's leg, causing minimal damage.
The shadow beast, missing its attack, immediately turned and tried to strike again. This time, it relentlessly pursued Jiho, leaving him no chance to counterattack. Jiho had no choice but to focus entirely on dodging, unable to launch any effective offense.
Meanwhile, the shadow beast Lira Venn had been dealing with was about to vanish without a trace. Since the number of shadow beasts Lira Venn needed to deal with had been completed, he gave permission to take out one of his team members. He himself then moved to assist Jiho, who was still evading attacks.
When Lira Venn intervened, the situation of the battle changed. The shadow beast, which had been attacking Jiho continuously, was suddenly struck by Lira Venn's fist, which sent it flying off the ground.
The shadow beast that had flown off did not vanish like smoke yet, but it was no longer able to move with the same vigor it had at the beginning. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Jiho rushed to the side of the shadow beast and ended it with a single strike of his hand.

Jiho sighed, looking at the black screen windows that appeared one after another. The trial was over, so there was no need to worry anymore. The only remaining task was to survive until the time was up.
"How are your injuries? If they're not serious yet, we should quickly finish off the remaining shadow beasts… We don't have much time left… For our group, we need to kill about (4) more…" Lira Venn approached Jiho and spoke.
"It's fine… I'm good… I won't have trouble holding them back like before… But if we need to fight, I'll need help…" Jiho stated clearly, expressing his situation. He would help as promised, but wouldn't risk his life unnecessarily.
"You don't need to fight… Just keep holding them off… We'll take care of the fighting…"
"Alright…"
Since time was tight, no one spoke much. Everyone had their own questions, but the priority was to finish the trial first.
…

As time passed and nearly half an hour had gone by, the battle reached its most intense point. Most of the participants realized, as the time drew to a close, that they hadn't yet killed enough shadow beasts, so they fought fiercely.
Jiho's group, working together in pairs, managed to eliminate the required number of shadow beasts before time ran out. There was no longer any need to worry about anyone being eliminated. During this time, due to Jiho's strike, one shadow beast was killed, and Lira Venn's kill count also increased by two. Moreover, everyone had a better understanding of each other compared to the beginning.
During this time, Jiho had taken on the role of distracting the shadow beasts while Lira Venn focused on the main attacks. After applying pressure together, the last remaining shadow beast, which had been waiting for the right moment, was killed swiftly.
"I was thinking of using the remaining time to kill as many shadow beasts as we can... What about you guys?" Lira Venn said, looking at the remaining time when everyone had completed the trial.
As the system had announced, the more shadow beasts they killed, the better the rewards, didn't it? Who wouldn't be interested in that?
"I wasn't thinking of killing more… But I'll help you out… Whatever happens, it's because of you that we passed this trial…" said a slender, 28-year-old man with glasses and blue hair.
This person was named Seren Vale, who also lived in Auralis Country, like Lira Venn. He had previously worked as a teacher, but when the sudden blue screens appeared, he was unexpectedly transported to this place. Although initially frightened by the unfamiliar situation, he had joined their group thanks to Lira Venn's help.
Jiho's team was able to swiftly and easily take down the shadow beasts, largely due to the strategies provided by Seren Vale.
"I'll help too... If Brother Venn is going to kill them, I'll assist..." said a young, chubby voice.
This voice belonged to Griggs, the youngest member of the team. Unlike the others, he wasn't able to move quickly, but he possessed an incredibly strong body. Even under the shadow beasts' attacks, he didn't sustain any injuries. Jiho was amazed by this when he saw it.
"Since all of you agree… why would I disagree? Even if we need to kill more shadow beasts for the reward, let's hurry up… time is running out…" These words were spoken by Seyin, a person wearing a basketball outfit with a lean build. Seyin was the last member to join this group, after being defeated by Lira Venn in battle and subsequently joining.
After listening to everyone, Lira Venn smiled. No words were needed.
Then, all eyes turned to Jiho.
"Jiho… what about you…"
"I'm done here… Since we've already teamed up, we should part ways here. Whatever happens, we truly were a great team…" After thinking for a moment, Jiho spoke with a smile, bidding his farewell.
"Ah… I thought Brother Jiho would join…"
Griggs, the youngest of the group, looked uncomfortable. The others remained silent.
"Alright then… You must have your own reasons… We'll meet again later…" Lira Venn responded, with a smile, exactly as expected. There was no hint of anything unusual in his demeanor.
"We'll meet again later…"
After saying his goodbyes to Lira Venn's group, Jiho walked toward the secluded area behind a few trees. Truthfully, he did want to stay and fight more shadow beasts with Lira Venn's group for better rewards. But after killing the fourth beast and seeing the black screen window pop up in front of his eyes, his mood instantly soured.
[Total Kills: 4]
[You have completed the Trial...]
[ERROR]
[ERROR]
[You cannot receive a better reward...]
[Your rewards will always be randomized...]
The black screen window displayed that no matter how many beasts he killed, it would not improve his reward. The worst part was that he had no control over the reward he would receive after the trial ended. Just like the others, he had to complete the same Trial, but unlike them, he did not have the right to choose his Trial rewards.
Why was he being treated differently?
The mysterious woman who had brought him into this world had never mentioned anything related to the black screen in the memories she showed him.
That mysterious woman… she still hadn't contacted him again. Was something missing…?
In any case, it wouldn't be long before the trial came to an end. For now, he had no choice but to rest and wait. Unlike the others, he didn't need to fight desperately to kill the remaining beasts, as the target count had already been met.
