Chapter 9: chapter 9
I took my laptop out and started searching for construction teams in this country. I wanted the builders to complete the project in just two months. In the last month, we would begin storing and transporting all the necessary supplies, so I needed a large labor force to build our base.
The blueprint of the base was simple. I wanted them to dig around 40 feet below the ground to create three underground floors and then construct three additional floors above ground. I didn't know if there was such a large workforce available in this country, where the population was already quite low, but I couldn't lower my expectations.
I kept searching, and in the end, there was only one thing I could do—I had to hire all five major construction companies here so they could work together to build the base. I found their contact information online and started calling each of them to arrange a meeting at night, at the same restaurant where I had asked about the real estate company.
Nobody declined the meeting, perhaps because there was little to no construction work here, so they had plenty of free time.
I put on the coat lying on the bed and walked out of the hotel. When I entered the restaurant, the cashier greeted me. I gave him a polite smile before heading to the table.
A man in his mid-thirties was the first to arrive. He cautiously tapped on my table. I took out my translator and started speaking. As he listened to my words, he nodded and sat down.
"I have invited other people as well. We will begin the discussion once everyone arrives," I told him.
Within 15 minutes, all five major construction agency heads had gathered around my small table. They looked at each other, conversed in their native language, and then turned toward me. Fortunately, one of them knew English and began speaking on behalf of the others.
"Miss, what is this about?"
"I know you all are confused, but the fact is that our project requires a large workforce, and it must be completed strictly within two months. Based on your available manpower and labor force, hiring only one company wouldn't be enough. So, our team has decided to hire all five of you. If possible, can you all cooperate with each other for this project? The pay will be the highest you've ever received, and you just need to finish this project within two months."
They exchanged glances and started discussing among themselves.
"Alright, Miss. Since this is a job opportunity for all of us, nobody wants to sit idle instead of getting a piece of the pie. So, when do we start?"
I was happy with how smoothly things were going.
"I will discuss all the details with you once I officially acquire ownership of the land. I have already spoken with the real estate officials, and by tomorrow night, I expect everything to be processed. The day after tomorrow, I will meet you at the location," I said, giving them the address.
"I will also provide the blueprints and would like each of you to suggest any additional improvements. You will be paid separately for that. Since I have a language barrier here and no prior experience in this region, I want you all to be responsible for sourcing the construction materials. Please provide me with a list of materials that are not available in this country or, specifically, in this region so I can arrange transportation.
I do not want any compromises on materials, even if the cost is slightly higher. Just use the best quality available. Do not try to cut costs unnecessarily. This is my only requirement for all of you."
The man named George relayed my words to the other four heads, and they agreed. Then he turned back to me and said, "Alright, Miss. Since everything is settled, let's talk about payments."
"Okay, tell me, what is the standard labor rate here?"
"Ma'am, it's around 700 per laborer and about 1200 for a skilled worker. Each of our teams has approximately 80 to 120 men. You can calculate the total labor cost per day. The workers prefer to be paid either weekly or daily—waiting for a full month is not an option. As for the materials and other expenses, we will provide bills for all purchases.
For our commission, we will take five percent of your total spending and divide it among ourselves."
I did my calculation my 1.6 million US dollars is around 192 million dollars in their currency. And why did the calculation it is around 450 total manual labour they have including skill workers, I made a round 1200 y-dollars and it was around 32.4 million y-dollars. Alright paying daily or weekly is too much work for me.
how about I give 20% advance and ones nearly half of the work is done then I will go for 40% more. the rest of 40% will be paid once the 80% work is done. I know everybody needs money so I will not hold it for you to complete the work. but this way it would be only three transactions from me and you can divide the money to your homeworkers accordingly. "
George set my offer to other four members who happen to have name of Mike Henry Stephen and David.
"Alright MS summers it is a quite big project and you are not trying to negotiate to rates for lower, so we can give in your method of payment. " He replied
"That's great and please since tomorrow wouldn't be any work. I expect all five of you look for the materials and our blueprint needs digging of 40 feets below the ground for making three underground floors. so, you might need heavy vehicles or construction equipments for that first, so I want to give you head up about these things. you can arrange all the necessary equipments and construction transport while I will complete the legal process of ownership. "
"Thank you so much for giving these up heads. we will do the work you have told us tomorrow and by the day after tomorrow we will start working right away." The meeting when smooth and we had a small dinner together, while we discussed about the blueprints which was on my phone.
Also about the materials I want to use and how actually the structure of building would be. They suggested some traditional housing types to prevent cold and other things, which I have idea since I have not lived here and I was quite grateful for dear suggestions. I transfer the million y-dollar in Georges account for initial renting of vehicles and other stuff this was the fees I still have to pay their companies apart from labour work.
" Alright miss see you soon." Your sad as he walk me to the hotel I was staying.
