Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Oberon's Calculation
Chapter 2
Seeing this, Raka panicked slightly, but quickly regained his composure and prepared himself. He assumed a fighting stance, ready to draw his sword.
However, this only fueled the enthusiasm of his opponents, who grew even more dismissive of him.
Click
Raka's sword clicked open, reflecting a cold gleam. Oberon, observing from a distance, narrowed his eyes.
Everything happened quickly. Both sides were within striking distance.
Just before they clashed, a heavy voice stopped them.
"Alright, stop!"
As if a command from heaven, everyone froze.
Tedy's group wasn't satisfied.
"What's wrong, Oberon? Why are you stopping us?"
"Yeah! Why are you stopping us? I'm so sick of this kid!"
"Let him know who's boss here!"
Raka, slightly surprised, silently thanked his lucky stars.
Oberon didn't answer immediately but stared intently at Raka.
"We don't act rashly. Can you explain the situation first? We've sworn not to take sides."
Tedy's group frowned, clearly displeased, but didn't argue.
Raka felt a surge of satisfaction. He thought they were intimidated by his heroic posture. Arrogantly, he said,
"You want the truth? Fine! There was a rat here. I killed it—pest control, you know. It dropped this box, but your shameless friend here claims it's his just because he saw it first!"
Tedy wanted to deny it.
"No, he's lying! It's mine!"
"Then how can it be yours?" Raka asked, intrigued.
"I saw it first!" Tedy answered firmly.
"See, your friend is completely shameless!" Raka sneered.
Tedy's group was stunned, realizing Raka's claim was valid. Oberon, their leader, also agreed.
"Alright, it was our fault. We apologize."
Raka, even more arrogant, said nonchalantly,
"It's fine. I've forgotten about it. After all, what human cares about the mistakes of an ant?"
Tedy's group was enraged by Raka's words. They, who were initially ready to stop fighting, were now filled with fury.
Raka, oblivious to their anger, strolled towards the bus stop.
After Raka left, Tedy's group exploded.
Bang!
"What's wrong, Oberon? Why did you let him go?" someone growled, smashing a wooden plank against the ground.
"If he'd stayed longer, I wouldn't have been able to hold back from tearing him apart!" another added, expressing his frustration.
Tedy, the most embarrassed, remained silent, his face flushed and his body trembling. He couldn't even speak from his anger.
The others also complained, but Oberon remained calm. After they vented their frustrations, Oberon explained,
"That kid's posture and swordsmanship are incredibly precise, indicating years of training. And judging by his muscles and physique, he's been well-nourished—"
Before Oberon finished, Tedy interrupted,
"But—"
Oberon cut him off, "All this shows he has good resources! Either a good family or natural talent."
"Whatever the case, it'll hurt us if we keep fighting because of our egos."
"Tomorrow is the Awakening Ceremony. Don't cause unnecessary trouble so we can awaken strong Virtual Resonances."
Oberon was satisfied that he had calmed his group. However, he stared at Raka's retreating figure with narrowed eyes.
"But, we can't be treated like this. Let's find out the truth and take action after that."
Tedy's group was finally satisfied and felt they had made the right choice in choosing Oberon as their leader.
Tedy is determined to awaken a powerful Virtual Resonance to get revenge on Raka.
Raka, oblivious to all this, walked home with pride. Even though he knew someone was plotting against him, his arrogance prevented him from caring.
Arriving home, Raka found the house empty. He didn't mind and immediately went to his room.
Once inside, he tossed his belongings aside and carefully examined the black box the rat had dropped. The box was a deep, matte black as if absorbing all light. He couldn't tell what it was made of, but its surface was smooth as glass.
Raka was eager to open it, but despite his best efforts, he couldn't. Frustration mounted. He slammed it, hit it, even tried sawing it open—all to no avail. Not a single scratch marred its surface, leaving him increasingly frustrated.
However, considering its impenetrability, he guessed the box contained something valuable. His enthusiasm reignited, but exhaustion and frustration from his earlier attempts eventually won out. He gave up, for now.
After a short rest, Raka practiced his swordsmanship in the backyard. His movements were surprisingly refined; no one would believe he'd developed them himself. He had learned them from his dreams.
He'd discovered that the information in his dreams held practical value in the real world. So far, he'd dreamt of more than four figures besides the middle-aged swordsman. He considered it a cheat code, a gift from a benevolent universe. This reinforced his unwavering belief in his dreams, fueling his boundless arrogance.
Completely focused on his practice, Raka didn't notice glowing blue energy, like a mixture of fire and water, flowing from his sword into his body. Unaware of this strange phenomenon, he continued until exhaustion forced him to stop.
After showering and changing, he saw the box on his desk, and his curiosity was piqued. He tried again to open it.
Just as he was about to resort to more drastic measures, the box opened easily. Raka couldn't believe it.
Unbeknownst to him, the blue energy that had flowed into his body had seeped into the box, making it suddenly accessible.
Ignoring the mystery of the box's sudden compliance, he eagerly peered inside. He wasn't disappointed.
Inside lay a beautiful, clear crystal, containing faintly flickering black and white lights. The more he looked, the more satisfied he became.
He found some string and made it into a necklace. Looking at himself in the mirror, he was pleased with his new accessory. Reflecting on his recent experiences, he solidified his belief that he was indeed the chosen one, a son of destiny.
Just as he was about to examine the crystal more closely, he was called.
"Raka, dinner's ready!"
"Coming, Mom!"
He abandoned his examination and rushed to the dinner table. His family looked unusually tired.
"What's wrong? Why are you all so exhausted?" Raka asked, concerned.
"Yeah, how could we not be tired? We were exterminating rats in the fields," Reza explained.
"Rats?"
"Yeah, rats! Lots of them, and big ones!" Lusi exclaimed excitedly.
Lisa, Lusi's twin, didn't speak, but her pale face betrayed her fear.
"How did so many rats get into the fields?"
"I don't know, they just appeared."
Raka couldn't help but think about the rat he'd killed earlier. After more questions, he learned that a massive rat infestation had overwhelmed his family. The damage was significant; even with his parents and three siblings working together, they were struggling to cope.
He wanted to help, but he was preoccupied with the upcoming Virtual Resonance Awakening.
"So, tomorrow's the Virtual Resonance Awakening. Are you confident you'll awaken a good one?" his father asked.
Raka's face lit up, and he immediately boasted.
"Hahah, don't worry, Dad. Your son is a child of destiny who will awaken a powerful Virtual Resonance! Just wait and enjoy the blessings of having such an amazing child!"
His mother shook her head with an amused sigh. Lusi scoffed, and the others looked surprised at Raka's unwavering self-belief.
After dinner, Raka went to bed, but he placed his sword beside him as if it were a trusted companion, unconcerned about the risk of accidentally injuring himself.
As before, he was unaware that while he slept, a glowing blue gas seeped into his body. Upon closer inspection, this gas subtly formed strange shapes. If Raka could see this, he would recognize the figures forming within the gas.
Meanwhile, in a dark, damp room, a furious voice echoed.
"Damn it, where did that thing go?!"
The figure was enraged, but his outburst was met with silence. Only hundreds of rats, subtly intimidated and frightened, reacted to his fury.
