Chapter 6
“So, that’s why Melon turned out like this~”
I glanced over at Melon next to me.
The camera, sensing the mood, zoomed out to capture Melon.
“What!?”
“What’s that!?”
“Huh!?”
“???”
“What does this mean!?”
“What is this!!!”
There was Melon, having grown significantly larger…
“GYAO!”
Melon still retained its green fluffy fur, but now with visible muscles in some areas.
With a rustling sound, it flaunted its magnificent wings and elongated tail.
“GUO!”
Gone was the tiny form from before. Now, Melon, exuding coolness, was flying around.
“Haha, you got excited, huh?”
“GYAO!”
When excited inside the dungeon, Melon transforms into this form. It usually happens when it eats or drinks something.
“You’re still cute, though~”
“GYAUUN~”
I held and stroked its head. Even though it’s grown larger, it’s still adorable. Its friendly nature hasn’t changed.
But then,
“Eh?”
I noticed the comment section was in an uproar.
“Hey, wait a minute!”
“Hold on…”
“This form…”
“Could it be?”
“Right?”
“Is that real!?”
“Huh?”
The viewers seemed to have a common understanding.
“Everyone? What’s going on?”
Responding to my question was that person again.
“Hinata Hikari: That child, without a doubt, is a ‘Dragon’!”
The comment section burst into activity.
“I thought so!”
“Really!?”
“Melon, you were a dragon!?”
“So that’s why it can fly!!”
“Dragons exist!?”
“So cool!”
“!!”
Surprised by the excitement, I slowly turned towards Melon.
“Melon, you…”
“GYAO?”
“You were a dragon!”
“Everyone’s laughing.”
“Seriously?”
“Why didn’t you know? lol”
“Haven’t you been together since you were little? lol”
“I thought you were just getting bigger.”
“This guy lol”
“Hopeless.”
“So clueless lol”
“Classic case of being unaware.”
“You could have told me, Melon.”
“GYAO…”
“Eh, you’ve said it many times?”
“GYAO”
“I see.”
“Can you actually talk? lol”
“But you didn’t notice even though it said it many times.”
“Can you understand it or not? lol”
“Too funny lol”
“I’ve been playing with it since I was young.”
Fixed concepts are scary. I grew up thinking it was a lizard, so I never saw it as anything else. I was quite surprised, but if the viewers are excited, then that’s good.
The viewers’ comments continued.
“What do you play with it?”
“Hmm, like just frolicking around, I guess.”
“Like what we saw earlier?”
“That, and sometimes it gets a bit more intense…”
But with those words, the flow of comments slowed down.
“More intense…?”
“What do you mean?”
They didn’t seem to fully grasp it. Well then!
“Melon, let’s do that thing!”
“GYAU!”
We moved a bit further from the entrance to our usual play area.
The ground there was an oval-shaped grassy area, resembling a sumo ring.
We stood at a distance from each other, both crouching down.
“What’s about to start?”
“Looks like a sumo ring…?”
“Could it be?”
“Ready whenever you are~”
“GYAOO!”
On the signal, Melon charged at full speed.
The viewers seemed to have completely understood.
“Sumo!?”
“It’s sumo!”
“I knew it!”
“Sumo with a dragon!?”
“The opponent is an S-rank monster!?”
“Hinata Hikari: Are you sure this is okay!?”
“UOO!?”
“GYAO!”
Melon and I collided, making a loud noise.
“Explosion sound!?”
“That sound is brutal!!”
“The collision sound, I’m dying of laughter lol”
“Deadly!”
“GUUU”
“GYAOO!”
I was quickly pushed to the edge of the ring by its overwhelming force.
“Are you okay!?”
“Obviously!”
“How are you still standing?”
“Any normal explorer would be shattered!?”
But at the edge, the momentum stopped abruptly.
“Eh?”
“What?”
“!?”
“It stopped?”
“Hinata Hikari: No way…”
“Heh.”
I grinned and looked up at Melon.
“You’ve gotten strong, Melon.”
“GYAO!?”
“Take this!”
“GYAIN!”
I flipped backwards and, using that momentum, threw Melon with a back body drop.
“Phew.”
I wiped off my sweat as Melon’s feet landed outside the ring. It was my victory.
“!?”
“Huh!?”
“You threw it!?”
“You won lol”
“What is this guy lol”
“You’ve gotten
strong lol”
“Insane lol”
“Are you okay, Melon?”
“GYAUU”
Melon seemed fine, but it looked a bit downcast, with its grand wings drooping.
“Don’t worry, I’ll always play with you.”
“GYAO!”
As I patted its head, Melon cheered up. But the comments were still strange.
“No way lol”
“Playing or what lol”
“The explorer community is buzzing”
“Clashing with an S-rank monster bare-handed”
“Unprecedented”
“Just a monster lol”
“That’s harsh, calling me a monster! Right, Melon?”
“GYAU…”
“Eh, Melon, do you think so too?”
“GYAU”
Melon slowly nodded its head.
“Looks like it agrees lol”
“Agreed and it’s funny”
“Doing this every day…”
“Kind of understand the secret to your strength now”
“This is how monsters are born…”
“But even knowing this, it’s not something we can imitate lol”
“Well, it’s more challenging than a Wyvern.”
As I muttered this, a flood of retorts came in. I turned my attention to another question.
“Is Melon always in this form in the dungeon?”
“No, not at all. Right, Melon?”
“GYAOOOOO… KYUI!”
“See?”
Melon’s voice went from low to high, and its large body gradually shrank, eventually returning to its original size.
“It can freely change its form… you see.”
“KYU~I!”
“Kyawa~!”
“Love its cry”
“I might like this form better”
“But the earlier form was also cool!”
“I like both!”
“They like both forms. You’re lucky, Melon.”
“KYUI KYUI!”
That’s when I noticed a comment from that person.
“Hinata Hikari: Taming even the emotions of that dragon. And it’s not even recorded in the subjugation records…”
But I couldn’t agree with that.
“It’s not about taming…”
“KYUI?”
“It’s family.”
“KYUI~!”
I gently embraced Melon.
“What a nice story”
“Gets you right in the feels”
“*sniffles*”
“;;”
“But this is strange, isn’t it? lol”
“Guys, think about this rationally lol”
Amidst these comments, suddenly a few words of praise began to appear.
“Congratulations!”
“Huh?”
“Congrats!”
“Amazing!”
“On your first stream!?”
“What are you talking about?”
“The viewer count!”
“Look at it!”
“Let’s see… Eh, WHAT!?”
The screen displayed “100,000 viewers watching.”
“Wow, that’s amazing!! Yay, yay!!”
“Congratulations!”
“More excited about this than the Mana Water lol”
“Actually, your house is even more incredible lol”
“Always a bit off lol”
“But, almost…”
“It’s amazing”
“Definitely a fan lol”
I was absolutely ecstatic.
“Then, the other pets too… oh!”
But then, something disappointing caught my eye. I bowed my head towards the camera.
“Sorry, that’s all for today!”
“Eh?”
“So sudden?”
“What happened?”
“I just… ran out of time.”
“Time, huh”
“You have plans, I guess”
“Can’t be helped”
“It’s a shame but understandable”
“Yes. I’ve also set up social media, so the next stream will be announced there!”
“Got it”
“Already followed you!”
“Looking forward to the next one!”
Yeah, yeah, it was abrupt, but everyone’s comments are understanding and supportive.
Everyone’s so nice.
“So, see you in the next stream—”
“I’m home—”
“…!”
Suddenly, a voice came from the entrance.
This is bad!
I need to end the stream quickly!
“Okay, then, I’m ending the stream now! Thank you!”
“Wait”
“What was that voice?”
“Hold on”
I hurriedly operated the camera.
“…They didn’t hear it, right?”
But after this, I would come to regret it.
I should have checked more carefully at that moment.
★
At the same moment Hoshi’s stream ended, in a room of a certain apartment.
“Ah, aah…”
A girl was staring up at the sky. It was ‘Hinata Hikari,’ who had also been leaving comments.
“This is unbelievable.”
The information overload from Hoshi’s first stream was too much for her to comprehend.
“Mana Water, and a dragon…?”
As an S-rank explorer, Hikari could deeply understand the unreal aspects of Hoshi’s stream.
And then, the incredible interaction…
The river-like flow of the super rare material, “Mana Water.”
Plus, a dragon, the strongest species that can live outside the dungeon.
“No wonder Wyverns are nothing compared to this.”
A dragon, already beyond S-rank, drinking Mana Water excessively, has become something unimaginable. Its strength is beyond comprehension.
“His social media is amazing too.”
Hikari looked down at her smartphone’s “Tsubuyaiter.”
There, just like during Amanogawa Nanami’s stream, and even more so, the trend was filled with topics about “Hikone Hoshi.” Right after the end of the stream, the momentum was unstoppable.
“…”
At the same time, a feeling of unease grew within Hikari.
The only high school student who is an S-rank explorer.
A streaming channel with over 1.5 million subscribers.
Even with her influence, it seemed impossible to stop Hoshi’s momentum.
“I can’t just sit around!”
Hikari immediately stood up.
★
Simultaneously, in a room of a detached house.
“Ah, aah…”
There was another girl gazing at the sky, Hoshi’s childhood friend ‘Amanogawa Nanami.’
“No way…”
Nanami had been glued to the screen for the entirety of Hoshi’s first stream.
Although Hoshi visited her house, she had never been to Hoshi’s house deep in the mountains. So, this was her first time seeing his house through the stream.
“This is crazy…”
She had so many questions while watching the stream.
Why is there Mana Water flowing?
Why is there a dragon?
And why didn’t he tell her that his house was a dungeon?
But all those questions disappeared at the very end…
Now, only one thought remained in Nanami’s mind.
“A woman’s voice…?”
The last thing she heard was “I’m home”—definitely a woman’s voice.
Moreover, a woman’s voice that even she, his childhood friend, had never heard before.
“Kyuu”
Nanami left a sigh-like sound and collapsed backward, rolling her eyes.
