The Fall Of A Chaste Soul

Chapter 15:  Running Out of Time

Darkness and Chains

Sophia's head throbbed as she slowly regained consciousness. Her wrists burned. Metal dug into her skin—handcuffs, secured tightly.

She tried to move, but her body felt weak. Something was wrong.

The air was thick with the scent of expensive cologne, gunpowder, and something metallic—blood.

Her vision adjusted.

She was in a lavish yet ominous chamber—Khalid's private suite.

Velvet curtains. Persian rugs. A crystal chandelier. But beneath the elegance lay a cage. A golden prison.

Sophia sat in an ornate chair, her hands shackled to its arms.

Across the room, Khalid poured himself a glass of whiskey. Completely at ease.

He turned to her, smiling. "Ah, my dear Sophia. Finally awake."

She clenched her jaw. "Where's Adham?"

Khalid sighed, taking a sip. "Your dear friend was less fortunate. My men took care of him."

Sophia's heart pounded. Was he lying?

Her fingers curled into fists. If Adham was dead, Khalid wouldn't be standing there so relaxed.

She knew his type. He enjoyed the game too much.

Khalid walked toward her, placing a hand on her chair's armrest. His breath was warm against her face.

"Tell me, Sophia… Was it worth it?"

She smirked. "You tell me. How does it feel to have your empire erased?"

His expression darkened, but only for a second. Then, he chuckled.

"Oh, my dear… You still don't understand, do you?"

He walked over to a screen on the wall and pressed a button.

A live feed appeared. The Dubai skyline.

Then—explosions.

Buildings lit up in flames. Chaos erupted. Screams filled the air.

Sophia's breath caught in her throat. What the hell was happening?

Khalid turned to her. "You thought you destroyed me? No, Sophia. You set off the final stage of my plan."

She struggled against the cuffs. "You're lying."

Khalid smiled. "Am I? You wiped my accounts, yes. But do you know what desperate men do when they lose everything?"

He leaned closer.

"They burn the world down."

A Race Against Time

Sophia's mind raced. Think, think!

She needed to get out. She needed to stop whatever Khalid had planned.

Her eyes scanned the room, searching for something—anything—to use.

Then, she saw it.

The key.

It sat on Khalid's desk, next to his gun.

She exhaled slowly. Time to play his game.

Sophia relaxed her posture, tilting her head.

"You win, Khalid."

He raised an eyebrow.

She continued, "You always knew I couldn't beat you, didn't you?"

Khalid chuckled. "Of course."

She smiled, letting her eyes soften. "Then… What happens now?"

Khalid took the bait.

He reached out, tracing a finger along her jaw. "Now, my dear Sophia… you belong to me."

Her stomach churned. But she kept up the act.

"Then uncuff me."

Khalid smirked. "Not yet. I want to savor this moment."

Her patience snapped. Screw this.

She swung her legs up, wrapping them around his neck in a swift, tight grip.

Khalid gasped. His whiskey glass shattered as he struggled against her hold.

Sophia twisted—slamming him onto the floor.

Before he could recover, she reached for the desk, grabbed the key, and unlocked her cuffs.

She barely had time to grab his gun before the door burst open—guards rushing in.

Damn it.

She grabbed Khalid, pressing the gun to his head.

"One move, and he dies."

The guards froze.

Khalid, breathless, chuckled. "Impressive."

Sophia pulled him to his feet, using him as a human shield.

"Call them off."

Khalid smirked. "Or what? You'll shoot me?"

She cocked the gun. "Try me."

A tense silence filled the room.

Then—Khalid laughed.

"Let her go."** He gestured to the guards.**

Sophia frowned. That was too easy.

What was he planning?

She didn't wait to find out. She backed toward the exit, dragging Khalid with her.

Escape Into the Inferno

The moment she stepped outside, her breath hitched.

Dubai was burning.

Panic spread through the streets. Sirens blared. Helicopters hovered overhead.

Khalid's men had set the city ablaze.

Sophia gritted her teeth.

She had to end this. Now.

She looked at Khalid. "Tell me how to stop this."

Khalid smirked. "You can't."

She exhaled. "Wrong answer."

With a swift motion, she slammed the gun against his temple—knocking him unconscious.

She turned to the chaos.

Time to save a city.

Fire and Fury

Sophia sprinted through the burning streets of Dubai, her pulse hammering. Flames licked at the sky, thick smoke clogging the air. People screamed. Cars exploded. The city was descending into hell.

She clutched Khalid's stolen gun, her mind racing. She had to stop this.

Her phone vibrated in her pocket. She pulled it out—a call from an unknown number.

She hesitated, then answered.

"Sophia."

The voice was deep, smooth. Dangerous.

Her stomach tightened. It wasn't Khalid. It was someone else. Someone worse.

"Who is this?" she demanded.

A low chuckle. "You already know."

She did.

Nasir.

Khalid's older brother. The true mastermind.

Sophia's blood ran cold. If Khalid was a monster, Nasir was the devil himself.

"What do you want?" she snapped.

Nasir's voice was almost amused. "To watch you fail."

A cold realization hit her.

Khalid was never the real threat.

Nasir was the one pulling the strings. And she had walked right into his trap.

The Ultimate Betrayal

Sophia stopped in front of a burning hotel. The city was crumbling, and she had no way to stop it.

Then—footsteps.

She turned, gun raised—and froze.

It was Adham.

Alive.

But his face was unreadable.

"Adham?" she whispered.

His eyes darkened. "You should've listened, Sophia."

Her stomach dropped. Something was wrong.

Then—pain exploded in her side.

She gasped, looking down. Blood. A knife.

Adham had stabbed her.

She stumbled back, her vision blurring. "Why?"

Adham's jaw clenched. "Nasir gave me no choice."

The world tilted.

Nasir's voice echoed in her ear, still on the phone.

"It's checkmate, Sophia."

Darkness swallowed her whole.

The Cold Darkness

Sophia's world was slipping away.

Blood pooled beneath her, soaking the marble floor. The knife was still lodged in her side, her vision flickering between light and darkness.

Adham stood above her, his expression unreadable. Regret? Or cold resolve?

Her lips trembled as she forced out the words. "You… betrayed me."

Adham didn't answer.

The pain was unbearable, a fire consuming her from within. She tried to move, but her limbs were weak. The sound of distant sirens mixed with the chaotic symphony of fire and destruction around her.

She should be terrified.

But all she could think about was—was this the end?

A Ghost from the Past

Her mind drifted.

She was back in her childhood home. The scent of her mother's cooking filled the air. The walls were covered with Bible verses.

And there she was—young, innocent, untouched by the world's darkness.

Her father's voice echoed from the living room.

"Sophia, come read your Bible."

Her mother's gentle laughter. "She's probably studying."

A lump formed in Sophia's throat.

She hadn't spoken to them in months.

They thought she was still in school, pursuing her dreams.

If they saw her now—bleeding out in a foreign land, surrounded by criminals, drowning in sins she could never erase—what would they say?

Would they even recognize their little girl?

A single tear slipped from her eye.

"I'm sorry…" she whispered.

The Fight for Survival

A loud noise yanked her back to reality.

Gunfire.

Adham turned sharply. Someone was coming.

Sophia's fingers twitched. She couldn't die here.

Not like this.

With every ounce of strength, she gripped the knife's handle and yanked it out.

A choked scream left her lips. Pain unlike anything she had ever felt.

Adham turned back—too late.

With a last surge of energy, Sophia plunged the knife into his thigh.

He let out a guttural scream, staggering backward. Blood gushed from the wound.

Sophia didn't wait.

Ignoring the agony, she dragged herself forward, crawling toward the shadows. She had to escape.

Sirens wailed louder.

Help was coming. But would they save her… or finish what Adham started?

Darkness clouded her vision again. This time, she didn't fight it.
