Chapter 10: THE JOURNEY TO OKE AIYE
EXT. OBA OGUNLAJA'S CHAMBER – NIGHT
The room is dimly lit by flickering torches. The heavy scent of burning incense lingers in the air.
Akin steps inside cautiously. His heart pounds in his chest.
Ogunlaja stands near a massive bronze statue of Ogun, the god of war. His gaze is distant, unreadable.
For years, Ogunlaja has ignored Akin. Tonight is different.
OBA OGUNLAJA
(slowly)
"You have changed."
Akin clenches his fists.
AKIN
"You've never spoken to me before. Why now?"
Ogunlaja turns to face him, his expression dark.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"Because you are no longer just a boy. You are something else… something I do not understand."
Akin feels the weight of those words.
His mind races back to the battle—the speed, the strength, the power that coursed through him.
AKIN
"I don't understand it either."
Ogunlaja exhales sharply, then steps forward, his voice lowering.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"There is something you must know."
He motions for Akin to sit.
Akin hesitates but obeys.
Ogunlaja kneels beside a large wooden chest. He opens it carefully and pulls out an ancient leather scroll.
Akin watches as his father spreads the scroll across the table.
The symbols on it glow faintly under the torchlight.
Akin leans closer.
AKIN
"What is this?"
Ogunlaja stares at the scroll. His voice is grave.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"The truth… about you."
EXT. AJILOMI VILLAGE – SAME TIME
Outside, the village is still celebrating. Drums beat in the distance.
Iwa and Oladele stand near a fire, watching the Oba's palace.
IWA
(whispering)
"Do you think the Oba will finally acknowledge him?"
Oladele shrugs.
OLADELE
"Maybe. But something doesn't feel right."
Iwa crosses her arms, frowning.
IWA
"He deserves answers."
They turn back to the palace, their expressions tense.
INT. OBA OGUNLAJA'S CHAMBER – NIGHT
Akin runs his fingers over the glowing symbols.
AKIN
"What does this mean?"
Ogunlaja takes a deep breath.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"This scroll is older than Ajilomi itself. It speaks of a prophecy… a child born without a blessing, yet destined to wield the strength of the gods."
Akin's breath catches.
AKIN
"A child without a blessing…"
OBA OGUNLAJA
(staring at him)
"You."
A heavy silence fills the room.
Akin's chest tightens.
For years, he was mocked, pitied, discarded for being powerless.
Now, he learns he was never meant to be ordinary.
AKIN
(softly)
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Ogunlaja closes his eyes briefly.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"Because I did not believe it. Until tonight."
He gestures toward Akin's hands.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"The way you fought… no warrior, no matter how skilled, moves like that. Your power is awakening."
Akin clenches his fists, remembering the whispers in his mind.
AKIN
"Then what am I?"
Ogunlaja stares deep into his son's eyes.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"I do not know."
Akin's chest burns with frustration.
AKIN
"Then who does?"
Ogunlaja's expression darkens.
He slowly rolls up the scroll and places it back in the chest.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"There is only one man who may have the answers you seek."
Akin leans forward.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"But he is not in Ajilomi."
A pause.
Akin's heartbeat quickens.
AKIN
"Where is he?"
Ogunlaja locks eyes with him.
OBA OGUNLAJA
"In Oke Aiye Mountain. With the Seer of the Forgotten."
Akin's blood runs cold.
The Seer of the Forgotten.
A man surrounded by mystery, spoken of in hushed whispers.
No one who seeks him returns unchanged.
If Akin is to uncover the truth… he must leave Ajilomi.
And his journey is only beginning.
EXT. AJILOMI VILLAGE – DAWN
A faint glow creeps over the horizon.
Akin stands at the village gates, a small leather bag slung over his shoulder.
Iwa and Oladele stand beside him, their faces filled with concern.
IWA
"You're really leaving?"
Akin nods.
AKIN
"I have to. If I don't find answers, I'll never understand what's happening to me."
Oladele frowns.
OLADELE
"But the Seer of the Forgotten? No one who goes to him ever returns the same."
Akin clenches his fists.
AKIN
"Then I'll return different. But I will return."
Iwa bites her lip.
IWA
"Let us come with you."
Akin shakes his head.
AKIN
"This is something I must do alone."
A long silence.
Finally, Iwa sighs and steps forward, placing a beaded bracelet around Akin's wrist.
IWA
"Then take this. It will remind you that you have a home to return to."
Akin looks at the bracelet, touched.
He meets her gaze, nods, then turns toward the open road.
With one last look at his friends, he walks away.
Into the unknown.
EXT. THE OPEN ROAD – LATER
Akin moves through dense forests and rocky plains, his mind restless.
The whispers in his head grow stronger.
???
(whispering)
"Closer… closer…"
Akin grips his head.
AKIN
"Who are you?"
No answer. Only the howling wind.
Suddenly—
A rustle in the bushes.
Akin whirls around, hand on his dagger.
Silence.
Then—
A shadow leaps from the trees.
Akin dodges just in time as a massive spear slams into the ground where he stood.
He rolls to his feet.
A warrior clad in black leather armor steps forward.
His face is covered, his stance deadly.
Akin's heart pounds.
AKIN
"Who are you?"
The warrior says nothing.
Then—he attacks.
EXT. FOREST CLEARING – MOMENTS LATER
The battle is fierce.
Akin blocks, dodges, counters.
But his opponent is fast—too fast.
Akin barely has time to breathe before another strike comes.
The warrior's movements feel… unnatural.
Suddenly—Akin's mind erupts with whispers.
???
(whispering)
"Use it."
Akin's vision shifts.
The world slows.
His body moves on instinct.
He sidesteps—counters with a single punch.
CRACK.
The warrior flies back, crashing into a tree.
Silence.
Akin breathes heavily, staring at his hands.
The whispers fade.
The warrior groans, struggling to stand.
Akin steps forward, grabbing him by the collar.
AKIN
"Who sent you?"
The warrior laughs weakly.
WARRIOR
"You'll find out soon enough… Son of War."
Akin's grip tightens.
AKIN
"What does that mean?"
But the warrior only smirks—then slumps unconscious.
Akin lets out a sharp breath.
Who was this man?
And why did he call him Son of War?
More questions.
Still no answers.
Akin releases the warrior and turns toward his destination.
Then—
A wild boar bursts from the undergrowth, its tusks gleaming in the sunlight.
Akin barely has time to react before the beast charges at him.
EXT. AJA FOREST – BATTLE
Akin leaps to the side, rolling on the forest floor as the boar barrels past. It skids to a halt, snorting angrily, before turning toward him again.
He scrambles to his feet, gripping the dagger tightly.
The boar charges again.
This time, Akin doesn't run.
He dodges at the last second, twisting his body, and slashes out with the dagger. The blade cuts into the beast's side, drawing blood.
The boar squeals in pain but doesn't stop. It turns for another attack.
Akin steadies himself. His breathing is heavy, his heart racing. He knows he can't outrun it forever.
"Think, Akin. Use your mind, not just your strength."
He spots a low-hanging vine from a nearby tree. An idea sparks in his mind.
As the boar charges once more, Akin leaps and grabs the vine, swinging his body up just as the boar slams into the tree with a sickening crack.
The beast collapses, dazed.
Akin doesn't hesitate. He drops down, dagger in hand, and with one swift motion—ends the battle.
Silence.
The forest watches.
Akin steps back, chest heaving. He looks at his shaking hands, bloodstained from the fight.
He has survived.
A small, tired smile creeps onto his lips.
EXT. AJA FOREST – NIGHT
Akin sits by a small fire, staring into the flickering flames. The roasted meat from the boar fills his stomach, giving him much-needed strength.
But the journey is far from over.
Ahead, the path to Oke Aiye Mountain awaits.
And with it, his fate.
