The Overlooked Hero Breaks the System

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: First Steps into the Unknown

The students were escorted from the throne room through towering marble halls, guided by armored knights. Despite the elegance of their surroundings, tension clung to the air like a storm waiting to break.

Some walked with barely concealed excitement, their thoughts likely filled with visions of training, adventure, and power. Others were still processing the revelation that they weren't the only summoned heroes in this world.

Rei, however, remained silent.

He had far more pressing concerns.

As he walked, his fingers twitched slightly, his mind focused on something no one else could see.

[System Panel Open]

A familiar translucent window materialized before him, its soft blue glow casting a faint light over his vision.

Rei's gaze flickered over his attributes.

They were… average.

At least, compared to what he had seen of the others.

Leon Crest's Strength stat alone was likely above 50, while Elena's Mana was rumored to be over 70 even at Level 1.

Even Alan, with his S-Class Warblade, had stats nearly double Rei's.

Levels determined everything.

Higher levels meant stronger attributes. Stronger attributes meant survival.

Right now, Rei was barely above the level of a trained knight, while some of his classmates had power comparable to elite warriors from the start.

But he had something none of them did.

Limit Breaker was an ability that defied the system's natural limits.

If he used it correctly, even a weak class like Enhancement Specialist could turn into something entirely different.

But before he could think deeper, a voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Did you check your abilities?"

Rei turned slightly to see Alan Vale walking beside him. The S-Class Warblade wore a confident smirk, his stance relaxed but his sharp gaze scanning the room constantly.

Rei gave a neutral nod. "Yeah."

Alan chuckled. "I'll bet a lot of us got insane abilities. I mean, Leon's class is already broken, and Elena's magic is ridiculous. Some of us are built to be legends." He glanced at Rei. "What about you?"

Rei kept his face unreadable. "Support-type class."

Alan raised an eyebrow but didn't pry further. "Well, guess we'll see who shines in training."

Rei gave a slight nod but said nothing.

Because he already knew the truth—power wasn't just about class.

The Training Grounds

The knights led the students into a vast open courtyard behind the palace. It was lined with weapon racks, sparring circles, and designated areas for magic practice. The air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of steel and earth.

Waiting for them stood several figures—battle-hardened knights, mages draped in robes of enchanted silver, and an elderly instructor with a sharp gaze that seemed to pierce through each student.

General Aldren stepped forward, his armor gleaming under the midday sun. "This is where your real journey begins," he said, his tone firm. "You were not summoned to be pampered nobles. You were summoned to fight, to train, and to survive."

He swept his gaze over the students, his presence alone demanding respect.

"Each of you will undergo combat trials to determine your baseline abilities. Warriors will be tested in battle. Mages will demonstrate their control over magic. Support roles will be assessed on their utility."

A murmur passed through the crowd.

"So… a placement test?" someone muttered.

Aldren's sharp gaze landed on the speaker. "A warrior who doesn't understand his own strength is a liability. A mage who cannot control their magic is a danger to themselves and others. Before you are trained, we will see where you stand."

A few students exchanged nervous glances. Others, like Alan, smirked in anticipation.

Leon, as expected, remained composed, his posture unwavering.

Elena crossed her arms, her expression unreadable.

Rei, on the other hand, felt none of their anxiety or excitement.

Because he had no intention of standing out.

Not yet.

---

The students were split into groups based on their primary class roles—warriors, mages, archers, and supporters.

Leon, Alan, and several other frontline fighters were led to a separate training area, where they would spar against royal knights.

The mages, including Elena, were taken to another section, where they would demonstrate their magical capabilities.

Rei was directed toward a smaller group—the supporters.

The test for them was straightforward. They were given a target, either an object or a knight acting as a test subject, and asked to use their abilities.

A robed instructor glanced at Rei's status panel before nodding. "Enhancement Specialist. Let's see your reinforcement ability. Strengthen this training sword."

A dull iron practice sword was handed to Rei.

He stared at it for a moment before taking a breath.

[Minor Reinforcement – Activate]

A faint glow enveloped the blade. The weight in his hands shifted slightly, becoming lighter, sharper.

The instructor gave a nod of approval. "Not bad. How long can you sustain the enhancement?"

Rei didn't answer immediately.

Because he had already thought of something else.

If his Limit Breaker could apply to abilities…

Then could it apply to this?

His fingers tightened around the sword.

[Limit Breaker – Temporary Enhancement Activated]

The glow around the blade intensified tenfold. The dull iron shimmered as if reforged into steel. The air vibrated faintly around it.

The instructor's eyes widened slightly. "That's… stronger than expected."

Rei immediately cut off the enhancement, letting the glow fade. He exhaled lightly, keeping his expression neutral.

The instructor watched him for a moment but didn't push further.

"Good control," he said finally. "You may step back."

Rei did as instructed, blending into the background once more.

For now, that was enough.

He had just confirmed it.

Limit Breaker worked on his class abilities.

And once he leveled up…

He'd be able to stack them.
