The Overlooked Hero Breaks the System

Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Roommates

The trials were over.

The summoned students followed the knights through the palace corridors, their voices a mixture of excitement and exhaustion. Some whispered about their rankings, already forming early alliances. Others walked in silence, either processing their results or worrying about what came next.

The halls were grand—towering pillars, golden chandeliers, and banners bearing Eryndor's royal emblem, a lion engulfed in flame. Yet, despite the majesty, none of the students paid attention. Their minds were elsewhere.

Rei stayed at the back, his footsteps light, his presence unnoticed.

The day had confirmed what he already suspected.

Leon Crest, with his SSS-rank Holy Hero class, was untouchable in swordsmanship. Elena Vaughn, with her SS-rank Arcane Valkyrie, had overwhelming magical firepower. Alan Vale's S-rank Warblade gave him dangerous close-combat potential.

Compared to them, Rei was nothing.

And that was exactly what he wanted.

The knights stopped in front of a large wooden door. One of them, a tall man in silver armor, stepped forward.

"These are your quarters," he said. "Each room houses four students. Your names are listed outside. Find your assigned room and rest. Tomorrow, your real training begins."

Some students sighed in relief. Others, like Alan, looked irritated, eager to start training immediately.

Rei walked along the hallway, searching for his assigned room. His name was listed on a small plaque outside one of the doors.

[Rei Kain]

[Dante Hale]

[Ethan Morris]

[Kai Renn]

None of the names stood out.

That suited him just fine.

He pushed open the door and stepped inside.

l

The dormitory was simple—four beds, a wooden table, and storage chests for each student. Mana crystals embedded in the walls cast a dim, warm glow over the room.

Rei tossed his bag onto a bed near the window.

A moment later, the door swung open again.

A tall, lean boy with dark red hair and sharp amber eyes walked in. He scanned the room before locking eyes with Rei.

"Huh. You're the quiet type, aren't you?"

Rei didn't respond.

The boy smirked. "Name's Dante Hale. Warrior class. C-rank for now, but that won't last long." He dropped his bag onto a bed and stretched. "So, what about you?"

Before Rei could answer, the door opened again.

Two more students entered—one short and broad-shouldered, the other tall and lanky.

The shorter one grinned. "Guess this is home now. Name's Ethan Morris. Archer, B-rank." He glanced at Dante. "Climbing fast, huh? Hope you don't trip on the way."

Dante snorted. "We'll see about that."

The last boy, still lingering by the door, spoke quietly. "I'm Kai Renn. Mage… C-rank."

Ethan raised an eyebrow. "A mage? What kind of spells can you do?"

Kai hesitated. "Basic ones. Fireball, wind slash… nothing like that Elena girl."

Dante scoffed. "Yeah, she was insane. Heard she's got an SS-rank class. And Leon? SSS-rank. Absolute monsters." He turned back to Rei. "What about you?"

Rei adjusted his bag and answered simply. "Support class."

Dante tilted his head. "What kind?"

"Enhancement."

Silence.

Ethan let out a slow breath. "Damn. You got unlucky, huh?"

Dante chuckled. "No offense, man, but you're gonna be stuck buffing people."

Kai, shifting uncomfortably, spoke up. "Enhancement magic can be useful in battle."

Ethan shrugged. "Sure, but let's be real—everyone's gonna focus on the big names."

Rei remained quiet.

---

Dinner was served in a massive banquet hall. The long tables overflowed with roasted meats, fresh bread, and steaming stew. Despite the feast, no one was paying attention to the food.

People were already grouping up.

Leon was surrounded by students who had performed well in the trials. Elena sat alone, deep in thought, but mages kept stealing glances her way. Alan laughed loudly at another table, already gathering a following.

Rei sat with his roommates at a quieter table.

Ethan glanced around. "People are forming alliances fast."

Dante smirked. "Can you blame them? The strong will stick together. The rest of us? We have to keep up."

Kai stirred his soup. "I just don't want to fall too far behind."

Rei didn't comment.

Rankings, alliances, separations between the strong and the weak—it was all happening as expected.

And yet, none of them realized that power wasn't just about ranking.

---

Hours later, the dorm was silent.

Ethan and Dante were already asleep. Kai tossed and turned but eventually settled.

Rei sat on his bed, staring at his system panel.

[System Panel Open]

The familiar screen appeared before him. His stats hadn't changed. But his focus was elsewhere.

[Hidden Ability Detected: Limit Breaker]

Effect: Allows the user to multiply any ability, skill, or blessing by 10×, either temporarily or permanently.

Temporary Boost: Can be activated freely, lasts for 10 minutes, drains mana based on the boost's intensity.

Stacking Limit (Based on Level):

Level 1: Can boost 1 thing at a time.

Level 10: Can boost 2 things at once.

Level 20: Can boost 3 things at once.

Increases every 10 levels.

Permanent Boost: Can be applied only once per week to permanently increase the chosen ability, skill, or stat by 10×.

Rei exhaled slowly.

He had already confirmed that Temporary Boost worked on his enhancement ability.

But what about stats?

What if he applied it to Mana?

Would it allow him to use more enhancements at once?

There was only one way to find out.

He focused.

[Limit Breaker – Temporary Boost Applied: Mana]

A surge of energy rushed through him.

His Mana stat jumped from 18 to 180.

His vision sharpened. His entire body tingled with raw power. It was as if he had tapped into a mana reservoir ten times larger than before.

But he could already tell—this wasn't infinite.

Even with more mana, spells and enhancements would still consume it at the normal rate.

Still, it was a game-changer.

If he could sustain enhancements for longer, it meant he could support himself—not just others.

Rei clenched his fists, feeling the lingering energy before letting the boost fade.

He had confirmed what he needed to know.

Tomorrow, training would begin.
