Chapter 18: Chapter 17: My Hermione Couldn’t Possibly Be This Mean
Harry didn't hold back at all with all this food. After eating, his stomach became round and full. He rubbed his belly and grinned. "Coming to Hogwarts was definitely the right choice! This is amazing!"
"You're such a little pig." Hermione looked at Harry with disdain. Why? Because Harry had finished everything in front of him and then started eyeing her food…
Once most people were done eating, the food suddenly vanished, replaced by all kinds of puddings. Harry widened his eyes in frustration, finally understanding the meaning of so much desire, so little ability!
"I miscalculated! There's still dessert?!" Harry looked down at his bulging stomach, then enviously at Hermione, who was happily eating.
Hermione looked delighted. "Wow, so many choices! This is ice cream! This is apple pie, chocolate sponge cake, sherry trifle, strawberries, jelly…" She pointed them all out one by one.
"Eh? Harry, what's wrong? You don't look too well." Hermione looked at him with concern, all while extending her pink little tongue to lick the ice cream in her hand. Her expression was as innocent as could be, as adorable as possible.
She was absolutely doing it on purpose!
Harry forced a smile. "I'm fine…"
Hermione nodded knowingly. "I get it! You feel like you don't have enough dessert, don't you? No problem! You can have mine, I don't mind!" As she spoke, she pushed a plate of cream pudding in front of Harry!
Harry silently tilted his head back, trying his hardest not to let tears fall. Oh, heavens… why must you torment me like this?
Seeing Harry's unwilling expression, Hermione couldn't help but laugh. "Hmph! That's what you get for wanting to eat mine earlier! Regret it now?"
Harry could only sit there, silently heartbroken, staring at the dessert before him with sorrowful eyes. I'm sorry… I've let you down!
As Harry sank into his despair, Hermione continued showing off, and the new students buzzed with excitement—the feast finally came to an end!
The desserts on the plates suddenly disappeared. Hermione sighed in disappointment. "Why is it gone already? I haven't had enough yet."
Seriously?! Harry screamed internally.
Hermione wasn't disappointed about not eating enough. She was disappointed she couldn't keep teasing Harry!
She hadn't even eaten much, but… "This is so sweet! Harry, won't you have one?" Hermione squinted her eyes in bliss.
"…What is this? I've never seen it in the Muggle world before. It looks really good…"
——
Harry suddenly recalled a Western story: A priest once said, Never put down your fork, because you never know what delicious food might come next!
From this, he drew an important conclusion—he needed a strong stomach! No matter how grand the feast, he had to be able to eat from start to finish!
The Gryffindor first-years had started chatting, discussing their families. Neville was explaining all the ways his relatives had tormented him just to prove he had magic.
Honestly, it was a miracle this kid survived.
Professor Dumbledore stood up, and the Great Hall instantly fell silent, as if a weight of authority pressed down on them.
Harry yawned. So Western schools have these formalities too, huh? He just wanted to get to the dormitory and rest.
Dumbledore spoke about not using magic in the corridors, places that were off-limits, and other school rules. Harry wasn't interested, but Hermione listened intently, even seeming like she wanted to write everything down—until she caught Harry's amused expression and gave up on the idea.
"And now, let us sing the school song!"
Hogwarts
Hogwarts
Hogwarts
Hogwarts
Teach us knowledge,
Whether we are bald old men or children with scraped knees,
Our minds are ready for wonderful things!
Because right now, our minds are empty,
Filled with air, dead flies, and trivial nonsense.
Teach us something valuable,
Return to us what we have forgotten.
Just do your best,
And we will handle the rest.
We will study diligently,
Until we turn to dust.
"What is this ridiculous song?!" Harry didn't sing at all; he was just listening to how others managed to turn it into a masterpiece!
"Now, prefects will lead the first-years to their dormitories for rest," Dumbledore announced loudly.
Harry was about to jump with joy—he had waited long enough.
Percy led them out of the Great Hall, through the corridors and up the staircases. After spending ten hours on a train, Harry was desperate to lie down on a soft bed and sleep until he woke up naturally.
But, of course, someone had to ruin it…
Percy suddenly stopped, his face darkening. "Peeves, what are you doing?"
A transparent ghost appeared in front of them, floating in the air. It was a little dwarf-like creature with sinister black eyes and a wide mouth. Sitting cross-legged in midair, he held a wooden club in both hands.
"Haha! First-years are so much fun!" he shrieked, zipping through the group, sending chills down everyone's spines. The new students all looked terrified.
Hermione clung to Harry's arm tightly.
Harry spoke gently, "You know… my arm really hurts."
Hermione's face turned red, but she still refused to let go.
"Aren't you not afraid of ghosts? You didn't react like this when you saw the Bloody Baron in the Great Hall."
"There were so many people in the Great Hall, and it was so bright! Of course, I wasn't scared then." Hermione whispered back. Now, however, they were just a group of kids in a dimly lit corridor, with portraits of pale-faced people on the walls whispering among themselves. The eerie atmosphere was much stronger.
Peeves clearly wasn't done having fun, watching the little lambs tremble in fear.
Ron's teeth chattered. "B-brother… can't you just use magic to chase that thing away?"
"Were you too busy stuffing your face earlier to listen? Professor Dumbledore said students aren't allowed to use magic in the corridors! Besides, you'd need dark magic to actually harm a ghost. How could I possibly know any?!" Percy snapped.
Anyone who stops me from enjoying food or sleep is my enemy! Oh, except for beautiful girls!
Harry watched Peeves gleefully floating ahead and thought of a saying: No zuo no die!
"Hey, Peeves, right? I've got something for you!" Harry suddenly called out.
Peeves paused for a second, then shrieked, "The famous Harry Potter!" He darted toward Harry, grinning wickedly, as if hoping to scare him.
Standing beside Harry, Hermione saw the terrifying ghost rushing toward her, and her legs went weak—she was about to collapse. Harry quickly caught her.
Then, he raised his left hand, and suddenly, a warm glow appeared in his palm. He tossed the light toward Peeves, and then…
"AAAAHHHH!!!" Peeves let out a bloodcurdling scream, the kind that sent shivers down everyone's spine. He recoiled in terror, staring at Harry in horror before shooting through the walls and disappearing.
"W-what was that…?" The students were all stunned, completely clueless about what had just happened.
A student from the Muggle world muttered, "Was that… a flashbang?"
Hermione turned to Harry. "What was that just now?"
Harry, exhausted, nearly collapsed onto Hermione. "Darling… I just want to sleep. Can I tell you tomorrow?"
Whether Harry deliberately fell onto Hermione or was just too sleepy to stay upright—no one knew for sure.
——
With his mind full of questions, Percy eventually led them to their dormitory. Too exhausted to care about his surroundings, Harry barely noticed where he was staying.
However, as the boys and girls split up, Hermione leaned in close to Harry's ear and whispered, "Good night."
That warm feeling pushed away some of Harry's sleepiness. But as soon as he reached his bed, he collapsed onto it and fell into a deep sleep.

Author's Note: When I read Harry Potter fanfics, I always notice a lot of copy-pasted scenes. For example, in these two chapters, all of Dumbledore's school rules were copied word for word—several thousand characters! And the part where Ron's brother sings the school song to the tune of the funeral march, with Dumbledore conducting them? That's all straight from the original! Honestly, at this point, I'd rather just reread the actual books!
