Chapter 19: Chapter 18: I Went to War in the Wild...
(The previous chapter has an extra 1,000 words—don't forget to check it out!)
As dawn broke, Harry was the first to wake up. He had developed a habit of waking at the same time every day.
Yesterday, he had been too focused on sleeping to check out the dormitory, so after waking up, he got out of bed quietly, not wanting to disturb his sleeping roommates.
After getting dressed and washing up, he started wandering around the room. Their dormitory was in a high tower, with an open, four-sided conical roof. Next to each bed were windows close to the floor. Standing by one, Harry could see many spired buildings and large courtyards.
There were five people in their dorm, and each bed even had red curtains!
Come on, I'm not playing into some pink romance aesthetic! Harry felt utterly uncomfortable. Just imagining himself sitting on his bed while others outside could see him made him shiver with discomfort!
After neatly folding his blanket, Harry left the dormitory. Right outside was a spiral staircase leading down. As he descended, he arrived at the Gryffindor common room.
It was not only spacious but also extremely cozy. A circular red carpet covered the floor, armchairs were arranged in a circle, and there was even a fireplace on the wall. It must be incredibly comfortable in the winter!
On the other side of the room was a door… leading to the girls' dormitory!
This is way too reckless! Seriously, what the hell?! The boys' and girls' dorms were literally in the same place, with just a door between them. And there wasn't even a scary dorm matron guarding it!
They really don't take us guys seriously at all!
As a proud representative of the male species, can Harry tolerate this? Can he tolerate this? Can he tolerate this? Of course, he can!!!
(Author's Note: Don't freak out! This is love! Hahaha…)
Harry pushed open the main dormitory door and glanced back at it. A plump woman was depicted on it—so this must be the "intelligent door-guarding elf." If you didn't give the correct password, there was no way you were getting in!
Stepping into the corridor, a gust of cold wind hit him. Harry then started jogging around the castle grounds. The school was massive, with many rooms and staircases that looked identical. Without spending time getting familiar with it, it would be easy to get lost.
Hogwarts was a castle dominated by shades of gray. As he ran along the pillars, Harry took mental notes of landmarks to navigate better. He controlled his breathing, only training in a few courtyards. After about half an hour, he returned to the dormitory.
"Password…" the Fat Lady asked.
"…I didn't hear it yesterday. Besides, I just came out from here. Don't you remember?"
"Password…"
Harry: "..."
He knocked on the door, hoping someone inside would hear him and let him in. The Fat Lady glared at him, clearly irritated. But Harry didn't care. You won't tell me the answer, and you won't let me cheat either? Yeah, right!
Unexpectedly, after just two knocks, the door opened.
The person who answered looked puzzled, as if wondering who would be knocking on the Gryffindor entrance.
"What are you doing outside?" Hermione asked in surprise. That's right—it was Hermione, holding a book in her hands.
Classic Hermione!
Harry quickly stepped inside. "I went to war in the wild! …Haha, just kidding. I went for a run. But who knew that lady at the door would insist I say the password before letting me back in? I didn't expect you to be up so early reading, though!"
Hermione brushed the strands of hair from her face and tucked them behind her ear. "When we arrived yesterday, the prefect told us the password was 'Dragon Scum.'"
"Oh, right." Hermione locked her adorable eyes onto Harry. "What spell did you use to drive Peeves away yesterday? I don't think I saw you use your wand."
"Well…"
Hermione's gaze turned sharp—though to Harry, she still looked ridiculously cute.
"You did say yesterday that you'd tell me today." Realizing that threats wouldn't work, Hermione switched tactics, taking a more dramatic approach. She covered her face with her book and let out a small, pitiful sob. "You're going back on your word… you heartless man…"
"…You make it sound like I did something terrible."
"Alright, fine, I'll tell you."
"Great! Hurry up, then." Hermione's expression switched in an instant.
Even though Harry knew she was faking it, he still rolled his eyes at the scene.
——
To be honest, even Harry had been shocked by that glowing light last night. As for what exactly it was, he'd have to start from his time in Diagon Alley.
While thinking about magic, Harry couldn't help but recall the kinds of magic he had read about in fantasy novels—where wizards meditated to attune themselves to elemental forces, allowing them to unleash powerful spells.
There was a stark difference between the two. Novel-style magic had immense destructive power—some forbidden spells could even wipe out entire cities. But they were almost always designed for offense.
In contrast, Harry Potter magic wasn't focused on attack at all. It felt more wondrous—like making pictures move, summoning objects with a simple incantation, or flying on a broomstick just by sitting on it. Even turning one object into another… It didn't seem all that impressive, but it felt like creation itself.
The best way to describe the difference:
One was like a level 100 human with immense power.
The other was like a level 1 god—weaker but fundamentally beyond human limits.
Still, Harry had been curious to test if "elemental energy" really existed. To his surprise, on the third day of meditating, he found that even with his eyes closed, he could see tiny glowing specks.
After several experiments, he realized that the color he saw most often was pure white. As he continued meditating, he became more and more attuned to them. In the end, he simply decided to call them Light Elements.
When he was messing with Peeves, he had only wanted to test them out. He never expected them to actually work—turns out they were real and could counter dark entities!
Heh, isn't Voldemort still in ghost form right now?
——
Back to the present.
Harry extended his hand, and a tiny glowing speck appeared in his palm. Gradually, more and more of them gathered, forming a larger, brighter light.
Hermione studied it carefully. It seemed like the first speck wasn't just one thing—it was a cluster of smaller ones merging together.
She reached out and poked it with her finger. It felt warm.
"What is this?" As a scholar at heart, Hermione's curiosity finally got the best of her.
Harry scratched his head awkwardly. "I only just discovered it myself. I have no idea what it actually does. But one thing's for sure—this isn't any kind of magic we know."
"You can't tell anyone about this, okay?"
"Then why did you tell me?" Hermione huffed. She sounded annoyed, but deep down, she enjoyed the feeling of being trusted.
"I got it." Hermione nodded.
"When I figure it out, I'll tell you. For now, we should probably get to class."

Author's Note: Don't mind this whole 'Light Element' thing. It's not gonna lead to some grand 'Light Magic' or change the wizarding world in any way.
But the comparison between these two types of magic? That's just my personal, half-baked idea. Has anyone else thought about this? If so, let me know!
