Chapter 22: Chapter 22: The Terrified Penguin
The Penguin instinctively reached for his gun—a reaction born of years of survival instincts.
His life had taught him that only with a weapon in hand could he ensure his safety.
He grabbed the pistol and aimed it at Peter's head.
"Who… who are you?!"
"What kind of trick are you playing?!"
"Don't take me for a fool. There's no way you could've gotten from New York to Gotham in an instant!!"
Facing the dark barrel of the gun, Peter remained unfazed.
"Does my being here surprise you?"
"Weren't you the one who invited me over the phone?"
In Peter's eyes, ordinary people without superpowers or special abilities posed no threat.
Even if the Penguin pulled the trigger, Peter had at least three ways to avoid the bullet.
The Penguin was torn. This world did have superpowered individuals.
Superman and Homelander were proof of that. But he refused to believe that this guy, dressed like a 20th-century mobster, had superpowers too.
"Hey, don't get cocky. This has to be a setup. You've been hiding in my house all along."
"Tell me, what's your real goal?"
Peter snorted.
"Think whatever you want. You just need to understand one thing—soon, you'll see your own brains."
The Penguin was furious. It had been a long time since anyone dared to speak to him like this.
"Oh really? Seems like you've forgotten one thing—I'm the one holding the gun."
"In the next second, I can blow your brains out."
Normally, Peter wouldn't waste time talking, but today, having just gotten a million dollars, he was in a great mood. He was even more talkative than usual.
Peter walked up to the Penguin.
"Let's make a bet. I bet your gun has no bullets."
The Penguin, feeling his authority repeatedly challenged, finally snapped!
He aimed at Peter's head and pulled the trigger with all his might!
Click!
Nothing happened!
The Penguin felt as if he'd been struck by lightning, swallowing nervously.
How… how is this possible?!
I clearly remember loading it. How could it…?!
This isn't scientific!!
"What? Speechless?"
Peter's tone was firm.
He punched the Penguin to the ground!
"And you call yourself a gang boss?"
"You don't even know if your gun's loaded. What good is it in your hands?!"
"Answer me!"
When Peter had entered the Penguin's room earlier, he had already removed the magazine from the gun. But thanks to the Rabbit Talisman's speed, the Penguin hadn't noticed.
Oswald lay on the ground, his pupils shrinking to pinpricks, too terrified to speak.
But having faced death several times before, he quickly regained his composure.
To survive, he had to beg for mercy.
He knelt before Peter.
"Sir, please spare me! I apologize!"
"I'll lick your shoes!"
He crawled forward, ready to stick out his tongue!
Peter kicked him away.
Now he finally understood how satisfying it must have been for Yan Shuangying to show off like this.
At this point, Peter had run out of patience.
"Judging that Oswald Cobblepot, the Penguin, is guilty of…"
Before he could finish the word "guilty," the system's voice chimed in.

Peter: "…"
So, either way, there's a benefit, huh?
The Penguin was still begging for mercy.
"Sir, I'll give you anything! I have a mother to support. Please spare me!"
Peter looked at the Penguin.
"I might let you live."
"But you'll have to work for me."
The Penguin was overjoyed, kneeling and thanking Peter profusely.
"Most of the time, I won't bother you. Your gang is still yours to control."
"Two conditions. First, how you deal with other gangs is your business, but you can't harm civilians."
The Penguin nodded repeatedly.
"I don't usually harm civilians!"
Peter continued:
"Second, keep an eye on everything happening in Gotham. Report to me once a month. I'll come to you."
The Penguin quickly agreed:
"Don't worry, sir. I won't let you down."
Peter nodded and tossed a few bullets to the Penguin.
"Oswald, load the gun and shoot me in the head."
"What?!"
The Penguin thought he'd misheard.
"You heard me. Do as I say!"
The Penguin quickly loaded the bullets into the magazine and chambered a round!
As a gang boss in Gotham, he didn't want to be controlled by anyone.
You asked for this. If you're looking to die, that's on you!
Die!
He screamed in his heart and pulled the trigger!
Click, click, click!
He pulled the trigger repeatedly, but not a single bullet fired.
The Bulletproof Skull passive skill had activated.
The Penguin was utterly dumbfounded. If he had still harbored some defiance earlier, now he was filled with pure terror.
This man was too terrifying.
All thoughts of resistance vanished in an instant!
By the time he came to his senses and wanted to flatter Peter, the room was empty.
"Terrifying!"
"This man is the most terrifying person I've ever met!"
Sweat dripped from the Penguin's forehead.
He collapsed to the ground, utterly defeated.
