Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The City of Valdoria
First Impressions:
After leaving Valmere, Rafa made his way to Valdoria, the city the locals had mentioned. As he approached, he was struck by the imposing architecture and vibrant energy of the place. Valdoria was a bustling medieval metropolis, with bustling markets where merchants shouted out prices, noisy taverns where adventurers traded stories, and adventurers' guilds that served as hubs for quests and records.
The streets were paved with uneven cobblestones, and tall buildings of carved stone dominated the skyline. Colorful flags fluttered in the wind, displaying the symbols of different clans and guilds. Rafa felt this would be the ideal place to learn more about Eldoria and find resources for his journey.
Guild Registration:
Rafa decided to register with the local guild as a novice adventurer. He chose a false name, Rafael Verde, to avoid drawing attention. As a newcomer, he started at rank F, the lowest level. He took on small quests, such as hunting wild animals or delivering items, to gain experience and money.
Although he still kept his Visionary skill a secret, he used his strategic intelligence to complete the quests efficiently. For example, he would create invisible traps to capture animals or illusions to distract enemies.
Rapid Progress and Envy:
Thanks to his Visionary skill, Rafa quickly rose in rank. He completed difficult quests with ease, eliminating threats that other adventurers considered impossible. This caught the attention of some members of the guild, especially a group of veteran adventurers led by Kael, an arrogant and ambitious man who hated to see anyone less experienced surpass him.
Kael and his allies began to spread rumors about Rafa, insinuating that he used forbidden magic or cheating to achieve his feats. They openly challenged him in a tavern, demanding that he prove his "purity" as an adventurer.
Confrontation View (Third Person):
That night, Kael and his men ambushed Rafa in a dark alley. They surrounded him, brandishing weapons and insulting him. "You don't deserve to be here, boy," Kael growled, pointing his sword at Rafa.
Rafa said nothing. He simply smiled, his eyes glowing with a sinister light. Before Kael could react, Rafa imagined a wall of ice that trapped two of the men in place. He then created sharp blades that flew toward the others, cutting off their weapons and wounding their arms.
Kael tried to attack, but Rafa had already imagined a gigantic shadowy figure behind him. The figure grabbed Kael by the neck, lifting him into the air. "You wanted to test me?" Rafa asked, his voice cold and calm. "Here is your proof."
With a gesture, he ordered the figure to smash Kael against the wall. The other men fled in terror. Rafa watched Kael's lifeless body for a moment before leaving, without any sign of remorse.
Change in Mindset:
This confrontation marked a turning point for Rafa. He realized that in Eldoria, the only way to ensure his survival was to eliminate those who posed a threat. He began to feel a growing ambition, although he still did not know exactly what he wanted to achieve.
"If I can create anything, why settle for less?" he thought, as he walked through the streets of Valdoria. "This world can be mine... if I want it."
