Chapter 92 - He likes you
They cuddled for quite a while before finally heading out for lunch.
In the afternoon, Tang Yuan stayed in Jiang Zi’s office, going through the information on Chu Yu that Jiang Zi and Tang Gu had compiled over the past few days.
By the time she looked up again, the sky outside had already gone completely dark.
Tang Yuan rubbed her dry eyes. She had unknowingly been sitting there for hours, and after reading all this material, not only were her eyes dry, but her head was aching as well.
She already knew that Chu Yu was utterly wicked and guilty of countless crimes, but seeing the hard evidence laid out like this, she realized she hadn’t done enough mental preparation.
She needed to sift through all the useful information and extract the most critical parts to expose to the public, revealing his true face while avoiding alarming him too soon. Once the system determined her mission was complete and deducted the male lead’s protagonist halo, the police would have a much higher chance of arresting him.
Tang Yuan straightened up, ruffling her hair in frustration, and muttered a curse under her breath—what a scourge.
Jiang Zi tapped her fingers lightly on the desk. “Little Tang Yuan? It’s time to clock out.”
Tang Yuan shut down her computer, closed it, and hugged it to her chest as she stood up. “I’ll take it home with me and finish reading tomorrow.”
Jiang Zi’s expression tensed slightly, though she made sure Tang Yuan didn’t notice. She asked casually, “You’re not coming to keep me company tomorrow?”
“Hm?” Tang Yuan looked up at her. “You want me to? You’re so clingy, sister.”
Jiang Zi averted her gaze, her expression dimming. “You don’t want to.”
“I didn’t say that. Fine, fine, if my dear sister can’t bear to be without me, I guess I have no choice but to come keep you company at work.” Tang Yuan sighed dramatically, looking utterly resigned.
Jiang Zi clicked her tongue and, after making her put the laptop down, took her hand and led her out of the office. “After work, it’s our private time. Don’t bring work into our lives.”
Tang Yuan followed her to the underground parking lot. Glancing at the time—7:30 PM—she suddenly had an idea. “Sister, let’s go on a date!”
“A date?” Jiang Zi opened the car door, waited for her to get in, buckled her seatbelt, and only then closed the door before walking around to the driver’s side.
As she started the car, she said, “Then let’s have dinner at a couple-themed restaurant first.”
Tang Yuan, delighted, pulled out her phone to check for late-night movie tickets. She had never watched a movie with Jiang Zi before.
Meanwhile, Jiang Zi randomly picked a high-end restaurant on the map and followed the navigation.
Thirty minutes later, they arrived at their destination.
They entered the commercial building and headed to the twelfth floor—Love Restaurant.
The hostess at the entrance greeted them with a polite smile. “Good evening, ladies. Do you have a reservation?”
Tang Yuan replied, “We didn’t make one in advance. Do you still have any available tables?”
The hostess looked apologetic. “I’m so sorry, but our restaurant requires reservations at least two days in advance, and we’re fully booked for tonight.”
“Ah?” Tang Yuan turned to Jiang Zi. “Should we find somewhere else?”
A failed mission before it even began.
Judging by Jiang Zi’s expression, she was clearly blaming herself for not planning ahead. Tang Yuan gave her hand a small shake and suggested, “Sister, let’s go eat barbecue instead?”
Just then, an annoyingly familiar voice came from behind her. “Eh? Isn’t that who I think it is?”
Tang Yuan turned around, feeling Jiang Zi tighten her grip on her hand slightly.
She saw Dong Ling standing there, accompanied by a charming young woman. The girl smiled politely and gave them a friendly nod.
Tang Yuan smiled back. “Bringing your girlfriend out for dinner?”
Dong Ling neither confirmed nor denied it. He glanced at them. “What about you two? Couldn’t get a reservation?”
Jiang Zi’s gaze was indifferent, unwilling to listen to their back-and-forth. She cut in, “We’re going somewhere else.”
“Oh, come on, how can I let such a good opportunity slip away?” Dong Ling turned to the hostess. “Four people, we’ll take my private room.”
“Of course, Mr. Dong. Please, this way.”
As it turned out, Dong Ling owned this restaurant.
The girl beside him didn’t say anything, but her smile became noticeably stiffer.
What was supposed to be a private date suddenly felt a lot more crowded.
Not to mention, with only one guy in the group, the girl’s gaze toward Tang Yuan and Jiang Zi carried a hint of unspoken curiosity.
Then she saw the taller woman’s expression cool even further. The hand holding Tang Yuan’s let go, shifting instead to wrap possessively around her waist.
Oh. Well, that settled it. So they were a couple.
Jiang Zi hadn’t said anything, but Tang Yuan instantly understood. She quickly turned down Dong Ling’s offer. “No way, we wouldn’t want to interrupt your private time together. You two go ahead.”
“What do you mean private time?” Dong Ling stepped closer, his tone unusually urgent. “It’s not like there’s anything going on between us. It wouldn’t be an interruption.”
“But it would be for us.” Jiang Zi spoke up, her tone firm. “We’re on a date. It wouldn’t be appropriate to share a table.”
Tang Yuan leaned against Jiang Zi, smiling at Dong Ling. “Exactly. We’re on a date. Let’s catch up some other time.”
Dong Ling stood frozen, his throat tightening as he found himself at a loss for words.
Watching the two of them walk away, disappearing into the elevator, he felt a dull ache in his chest.
Sure, he had seen the videos of them online, kissing and acting affectionate, but seeing it in person had a much greater impact.
Tang Yuan… she didn’t like Chu Yu anymore. She didn’t like him either. She had moved on to someone else.
Not that he ever really thought he had a chance with her.
Dong Ling pressed his lips together, suppressing his disappointment.
Then, the departing figure suddenly turned back.
“That’s right,” Tang Yuan called out. “You haven’t been hanging around the other three members of Dragon City F4 lately, have you?”
Dragon City F4. The name made Dong Ling cringe.
“They’re my brothers. If I don’t hang out with them, who else would I hang out with?”
Tang Yuan’s concern deepened. “Are you free tomorrow? Let’s meet and talk about something.”
Dong Ling stuffed his hands into his pockets, putting on a smug expression. “You think you can just summon me whenever you want? I’ve got a packed schedule—you’ll have to wait in li—hey!”
Before he could finish, Jiang Zi had already led Tang Yuan away into the elevator.
Dong Ling gritted his teeth in frustration.
Damn it! He wasn’t just someone who could be called out on a whim!
His thoughts were interrupted by the girl beside him. “Ah Ling, are they your friends? They’re a couple, right?”
Dong Ling, irritated, snapped, “Do you even use the internet?”
The girl’s smile stiffened, almost faltering.
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay composed. “Let’s go in, okay? I’m starving.”
For the sake of money, she could endure a bad temper—even if she had to fake a whole lot of patience.
Meanwhile, inside the elevator, Jiang Zi silently released her grip from Tang Yuan’s waist and even scooted slightly to the side, radiating silent resentment.
Tang Yuan brushed her fingertips against Jiang Zi’s palm, teasing her. “Sister? What’s wrong?”
Jiang Zi’s fingers twitched, but she crossed her arms, pulling her hands away. She shot Tang Yuan a sidelong glance, still saying nothing.
“Sister? Sis~”
The elevator stopped on the fourth floor. Tang Yuan pulled her aside into a quiet corner.
“Are you angry?”
Jiang Zi stared at her for a moment, then pointed at her own lips without a word.
Tang Yuan had no choice but to tiptoe and peck her lightly. “Jealous, huh?”
Jiang Zi let out a quiet hum. “He likes you.”
