Chapter 98 - No Kisses, No Hugs
Su QingYao crossed her arms and looked down at Meng Yao’er from above. Under that cold gaze, Meng Yao’er felt extremely uncomfortable. She reached out, trying to tug at Su QingYao’s sleeve, but Su QingYao dodged, leaving her full of disappointment.
Su QingYao let out a cold laugh. “You still have the nerve to look aggrieved?”
“If you keep moving around, do you want your entire hand covered in needles before you’re satisfied?”
Meng Yao’er clutched the white blanket, thoroughly scolded into silence.
“QingQing.” She looked at Su QingYao cautiously, eyes filled with pleading. “QingQing, don’t be mad at me, okay?”
“I don’t have the right to be mad at certain people.” Su QingYao pulled over a chair and sat down with her legs crossed, turning her head away to avoid looking at her. Her tone was cold. “After all, some people can recklessly throw their lives away without saying a word.”
Hearing this, the last bit of hope in Meng Yao’er’s heart withered.
She really knows everything.
For the first time since waking up, the image of her own blood-stained hands surfaced in her mind—more wretched than a ghost from hell. Panic gripped her as she stared at Su QingYao. “QingQing, don’t be afraid of me. I’m not—”
Su QingYao shot her a glare, swiftly cutting her off. “Enough, you don’t have to say anything more.”
The surveillance footage had already been released, proving beyond doubt that Meng Yao’er was a victim. Her killing of Lu ShanEn had been self-defense.
No matter how much Meng Yao’er had schemed, her true motives couldn’t be known to anyone.
She couldn’t be the one to say it.
“Is she awake?” A voice sounded before the person even entered the room.
Both of them looked toward the door—it was Tang Yuan and Jiang Zi.
Meng Yao’er’s complexion was still pale, her mental state not much better. Hearing Tang Yuan’s voice, she lifted her eyelids and snorted. “Even if I wasn’t awake, I would be now.”
Tang Yuan pulled Jiang Zi into the hospital room, greeting Su QingYao before responding to Meng Yao’er’s complaint. “Oh, come on. I had to call out first, didn’t I? It’s not about checking if you were awake—I just didn’t want to walk in on something I shouldn’t see. Hehe.”
Everyone present immediately caught the implication, except Meng Yao’er, who wasn’t pleased at all.
She’d been awake for so long, yet QingQing hadn’t kissed her. Not even a single hug.
Tang Yuan’s words stung—destroying her physically and mentally.
Su QingYao quickly motioned for them to sit, changing the subject. “Take a seat first. What brings you and Jiang Zi here?”
Jiang Zi pulled over two chairs and gestured for Tang Yuan to sit.
After sitting down, Tang Yuan joked, “Such a big event, trending all morning on social media. Of course, we had to come check on the victim.”
Seeing how close they sat, Meng Yao’er’s expression darkened. “If you’re just here to mock me, you can leave.”
Jiang Zi glanced at her lazily. “What’s there to laugh at?”
Meng Yao’er suddenly felt a dull ache in her wounded abdomen. “You’ve seen me now. If you’ve got nothing else, hurry up and leave. I want to cuddle with my wifey.”
Su QingYao pursed her lips, unmoved.
But when she turned to Tang Yuan and Jiang Zi, her expression softened. “Did you eat before coming?”
“We did! What about you, Sister Su?”
“Not yet. I ordered takeout, but it hasn’t arrived.”
“QingQing.” Meng Yao’er cut in, sounding pitiful. “I’m feeling a little sleepy.”
She was clearly trying to shoo them away. These two weren’t acting like concerned visitors at all. They showed up empty-handed and just came to watch the show—annoying and infuriating.
Tang Yuan clicked her tongue. “Oh, come on. We didn’t mean to get in your way. We’re just here out of friendly concern, right, Sister?”
Jiang Zi nodded, backing up her wife. “Right.”
“Alright then. We’ve seen what we came to see, so we’ll leave now.” Tang Yuan sighed, looking regretful. “Since you just woke up and aren’t in top shape, I won’t bring up work right now. But be quick about it, okay? Three days at most.”
After taking down Lu ShanEn, the mess with the Lu family still hadn’t been fully dealt with. With Lu ShanEn dead, the family was in chaos—some were dividing assets, while others scrambled for money.
The only leverage Meng Yao’er had managed to seize from Lu ShanEn was the inheritance left behind by her scumbag father.
Lu ShanEn had been working with Chu Yu in business. Though he was dead, the industry remained, and Meng Yao’er had to handle the aftermath. She had two choices:
One, inherit the assets, clean up their past, and lead the struggling Lu Pharmaceuticals onto the right path, making it flourish.
Two, cut herself off completely and let the whole rotten mess sink with Chu Yu.
The latter was obviously the easier and more efficient option.
Meng Yao’er had only ever had one goal—kill Lu ShanEn. Now that it was done, she didn’t care about the rest. “Just talk to your brother about it. Don’t bother me.”
She and Tang Gu had already discussed this.
All she wanted was money.
From now on, she had nothing to do with the Lu family.
She was incredibly grateful she had insisted on returning to the Lu family without changing her surname. The Lu family had never valued her as more than an unimportant illegitimate child, so no one had cared that she hadn’t taken their name.
Otherwise, she would’ve been stained by yet another disgrace. As if having their blood in her veins wasn’t disgusting enough.
Tang Yuan and Jiang Zi left the hospital, thoughtfully closing the door behind them.
The moment they were gone, Meng Yao’er’s grievance spilled out. “QingQing, I want a hug.”
Su QingYao’s gaze remained cold and indifferent as she stared at her for a long moment. Then, she stood up and walked over. She leaned down but didn’t reach out, instead locking eyes with her.
Her red lips parted, voice cool and heartless. “I don’t want to.”
Then, she straightened up leisurely.
The takeout had arrived. She went to open the door, took the food, came back, and quietly started eating.
Meng Yao’er lay on the hospital bed, waiting, but Su QingYao didn’t even glance her way.
She didn’t dare move around too much, afraid of making QingQing even angrier.
Injured, and her girlfriend neither kissed nor hugged her—was this… falling out of love?
Meng Yao’er’s thoughts swirled, but the medicine made her drowsy. In the quiet room, she eventually drifted off to sleep.
After finishing her meal and tidying up, Su QingYao returned to the bedside and stood there for a long time.
Only then did she lean down and place a soft kiss on Meng Yao’er’s lips—lighter than a passing breeze, careful not to wake the sleeping girl.
Her fingers traced the contours of Meng Yao’er’s face, trying to smooth out the furrow in her brow.
A stab wound clean through—she couldn’t even imagine how much it must have hurt.
This idiot, so reckless with her own body.
“You’re so disobedient… acting all cute now.” Su QingYao’s fingertip lingered on her lips for two seconds, emotions surging in her eyes, no longer hidden.
MengMeng, this time, you finally got what you wanted.
