Chapter 736: Expectations Versus Reality
Villain Ch 736. Expectations Versus Reality
Alice couldn't help but tease Allen as she noticed the mixed emotions playing across his face. "And you look happy with that," she remarked with a playful smirk, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
Allen's expression softened as he acknowledged Alice's observation. "Happy and surprised," he admitted with a nod, his tone tinged with a hint of melancholy. He glanced around the dimly lit room, a sense of introspection settling over him.
"I didn't expect that 'Azazel,' despite his reputation as the villain of the game, would garner so much attention," he mused, his voice carrying a touch of sadness. "He managed to shift the entire game community's focus with just a simple incident," he added, a melancholic smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
The memories of his past experiences flooded back. Allen couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over him. "I thought... when I left the name 'Godlike,' I would never be in the spotlight again," he recalled, his voice trailing off as he reminisced about his former alias. Despite his current success, there was a part of him that longed for the simplicity of his previous identity.
Alice nodded in understanding, her expression sympathetic as she listened to Allen's reflections. "Well, it just goes to show that you can't predict what the game world will throw at you," she offered, her tone gentle yet reassuring. "But hey, at least you're making waves again, right?" she added, flashing him a supportive smile.
"Yeah, it's kinda funny when you think about it," Allen admitted with a wry chuckle, his eyes glinting with a hint of amusement. "After that whole heartbreak saga, I decided to ditch the old nickname because I needed a clean break. Wanted to step out of the spotlight and focus on finding myself," he explained, his tone tinged with a mix of nostalgia and resignation.
He sighed, his gaze drifting off into the distance as he reflected on the difficult decision he had made. "It wasn't easy, though. I mean, I'd spent years building up that name, carving out a reputation for myself in the gaming world. And then, just like that, I had to let it all go," he continued, a note of sadness creeping into his voice.
But despite the challenges he had faced, Allen couldn't help but find a sense of irony in the situation. "But, life's full of surprises," he remarked with a wry grin. "Here I am, able to reclaim my reputation with a different in-game name and a whole new role," he added, a flicker of excitement dancing in his eyes.
Allen felt a soft pressure on his arm and turned to see Alice hugging it gently, a faint smile gracing her lips. Her words of comfort brought a warmth to his heart. "Look on the bright side, Allen," she said softly, her voice filled with empathy. "You can be yourself with this."
Allen furrowed his brow in confusion, curious about Alice's perspective. "What makes you think that?" he asked, his tone tinged with skepticism.
Bella reached out and took his hand from his other side, her touch grounding him as she spoke. "Because we see it," she explained earnestly, her gaze meeting his. "Inside you... there's a beast trapped there. It's frustrated, angry," she continued, her voice carrying a sense of conviction. "And you use your villain role to bring it all out," she added, her words resonating with truth.
Allen blinked in surprise, taken aback by Bella's insight. He hadn't realized that his inner turmoil was so palpable to those around him. But as he processed her words, a sense of understanding washed over him. Perhaps his villainous persona served as a release for the pent-up emotions he struggled to express in other ways.
Alice added, "It's not like we're saying you're a bad person. It's just... I know that beast is formed from your emotions and anger that you have suppressed for years. You don't have any way to channel it, even if you become a player with a new name."
Allen felt a lump form in his throat as he listened to Alice's words. It was a mix of comfort and confrontation. He couldn't deny the truth in her words.
She raised her head, her gaze drifting toward the dark sky of Ront City, a symbol of the realm still under the rule of the devil emperor. "Because in the game, cooperation, political alliances, and guilds will influence a player's assessment and reputation," she continued, her voice tinged with wisdom born of experience.
"A solo player will find it difficult to climb to the top, especially in MMORPGs which require a lot of cooperation."
Her words resonated with Allen. He knew firsthand the importance of alliances and teamwork, the key to success in their virtual realm. Yet, he couldn't shake the feeling of isolation that sometimes plagued him as a solo player.
Alice turned to him once again, her expression filled with empathy. "Yet, that type of thing will only dim you," she stated, her voice soft yet firm. "Especially if your team is a burden. That's why we don't want to be your burden," she explained.
Allen winced inwardly as he absorbed Alice's words. Painful as they were, he couldn't deny their truth. It had always been a struggle for him to find a team that could keep up with his pace. Sure, he thrived in the spotlight when dueling solo, basking in the attention and cheers of the crowd. But when it came to finding a cohesive team, it was a whole different ball game.
He couldn't help but feel a pang of frustration as he recalled the countless times he'd clashed with teammates whose skills just didn't match up to his own. It was a constant battle of expectations versus reality, leaving him torn between wanting to unleash his anger and the realization that he couldn't expect everyone to think like him.
It was like a curse, Allen thought bitterly. A curse that had followed him from one gaming arena to another, shaping his reputation as a toxic player in the cutthroat world of multiplayer online battle arenas. He knew he wasn't always easy to work with, his high standards and competitive nature often rubbing others the wrong way.
But amidst the chaos and disappointment, there had been moments of hope. Allen thought back to Liam and Darren, his former teammates whom he'd trusted implicitly. For a time, he'd believed they could be his stable team, his partners in crime as they navigated the challenges of the gaming world together.
But that trust had been shattered when they betrayed him, leaving him feeling more alone than ever.
He reflected on his past experiences and couldn't help but wonder if he was doomed to repeat the same patterns over and over again. Was he destined to always be the lone wolf, forever searching for a team that could match his skills and understand his thoughts?
