Chapter 32:
Chapter 32:
Cold sweat trickled down Li Xin’s forehead, but she quickly regained her composure. After all, she had seen plenty of drama in her time.
“Yes, I remember that episode well too. The story of the abducted girl was heartbreaking, but in the end, she chose to forgive her husband. Perhaps that’s the strength of a mother’s love.”
She paused before continuing, “But let’s focus on today’s show. This time, it’s about Mr. Jiang Jiandang’s confession to Ms. Song Lin. We’re now entering the ‘True Confession’ segment.”
“True confession?” the crowd murmured angrily.
“What confession? With his character, there’s nothing worth confessing. Get him off the stage!” one person yelled.
“Exactly! Ms. Song was right to want a divorce. This selfish man has no shame, and now you want him to confess? Just get him out of here!” another chimed in.
“Get off the stage!”
The crowd grew more hostile, their shouts echoing across the studio. The show’s crew was caught off guard. Jiang Jiandang had sparked a public outcry—the first time in the history of the show that the audience demanded someone be removed from the stage.
“Please, everyone, let’s stay calm,” Li Xin urged. “Whether or not you want to forgive Mr. Jiang is up to Ms. Song. Let’s give them some time.”
With a forced smile, Li Xin turned to Song Lin. “Ms. Song, it’s often said that a day together as a married couple brings a hundred days of kindness. After a hundred years, you build a lifetime of love. Even though Mr. Jiang has made many mistakes, could you give him just one minute to speak his mind?”
Song Lin nodded quietly, stepping onto the platform as the lights dimmed. A single spotlight illuminated Jiang Jiandang, casting an intimate glow over the scene. Soft, melancholy music filled the air.
Jiang Jiandang took the microphone, looking at Song Lin with what he hoped was deep affection.
“My dear wife, I know you’ve worked so hard all these years. I know I didn’t appreciate your efforts, thinking that we’re family, and it didn’t matter who did what. I was wrong.”
Song Lin’s face remained unreadable.
“Wife, I didn’t mean anything bad by consulting a lawyer. I was just scared when I heard you wanted a divorce. I was confused… Can you forgive me? Do you remember when we got married? I promised your father I’d take care of you for life. You said you’d always be my support. We even agreed that if we had a boy, we’d name him Jiang Feng, and if it was a girl, she’d be Jiang Yu. Our love was so strong back then. I know I made mistakes, but can you give me another chance? I won’t force our son to donate bone marrow, I won’t sell the house, and I’ll give you all my future earnings.”
Tears streamed down his face as he pleaded, his eyes locked on Song Lin. Deep down, Jiang Jiandang knew he had to put on his best performance, or he’d be mercilessly criticized by everyone—even the online netizens.
He didn’t dare go against the court of public opinion, so he played his part, hoping that Song Lin, who had always been easy to appease, would forgive him.
When he saw the tears welling up in Song Lin’s eyes, he felt a weight lift from his chest. He thought he had won.
But then Song Lin spoke, her voice steady and firm. “I’ve made up my mind. I don’t need you to repay the 200,000 yuan. What I didn’t expect was that, to avoid paying the mortgage, you’d consult a lawyer about something like this. Jiang Jiandang, I want a divorce. Don’t contact me or my son ever again. I see you clearly now. You’re a hypocrite and a selfish man. I was blind before, but no more. If you leave us alone, I won’t ask for 200,000 yuan. And from now on, your son will have nothing to do with you.”
Her words were resolute.
Jiang Jiandang tried to speak, “Xiao Lin…”
“Don’t say anything. Before I change my mind, if you agree to the divorce now, we can sign the papers as soon as we step off this stage. If you don’t, I’ll take you to court. Think about it.”
Jiang Jiandang’s face twisted in hesitation. His expression shifted from pale to flushed as he battled with himself. Finally, gritting his teeth, he spoke. “If you really want a divorce that badly, fine. I agree. You can have custody of our son, just like you said. We’ll divorce.”
In his mind, 200,000 yuan was no longer his concern. He realized there was no point in fighting it. Even if they stayed married, Jiang Feng would side with his mother, and his efforts would be for nothing. At least with a divorce, he’d still have a house to live in.
After considering his options, he let out a few more fake tears. “Wife, if you ever change your mind and don’t want the divorce, you can always return to me. I’ll wait for you.”
The audience collectively groaned in disgust.
“Ugh, disgusting!”
